Not sure that's a fair statement.

If you are looking in the eyes of a GM building a team and you have an elite young PG I think you have to think about a few things.

    A. What type of star PG do I have- Is he a dynamic scorer like Rose, Iverson, I. Thomas, or is he more of a facilitator type like Nash, Cp3, Stockton?

    B. If we surround this star PG around with veteran role players right now, could you compete in the playoffs, and what type of players those vets have to be. I think if you have one of these dynamic scorers its possible... if you have more of the facilitator type, you are still going to need someone who can break down the defense.

    C. Is our defense good enough to score with just one dynamic scorer in the half court. Bad Boy Pistons, AI Sixers, Rose Bulls, were all extremely good defensive teams. These are teams that could win ugly, and only really needed that one player who could break down the defense one-on-one even at a lower efficiency rating. Their defense was good enough to sustain long scoring droughts.

So can a team win the title with CP3 as their best player??... debatable, but I would say yes However they need to be more of an offensive minded team. CP3 needs to be able to outscore opponents to win because if you surrounded him with defense only players, they wouldn't be able to score point with CP3 alone. The Clippers this year need to be more Nash/Amare/Suns than AI/Sixers to have a chance.

Can you win with a more dynamic scorer like Rose or AI as your best player??... yes but you need to have an elite defense.

It's definitely what you need, but if you have to start from scratch and pick a 6-8 elite player like Lebron or a 6-1 elite player like CP3 to build around, I tend to think most GMs will side with the bigger player.

Thomas should have been on the dream team over Laetner but Jordan held the power..

Stockton is not overrated...someone who leads the NBA All Time in both steals and assists and by a pretty sizeable margin can't possibly be overrated.

I agree. I would take Stockton over CP3/Nash combined. Stockton carried Jazz team. In fact, Stockton is the reason why Malone was the player that he was. Stockton and his Jazz gave MJ some good competition. Playoff games nowadays pales in comparison to physical game played back in the days...

any conversation about greatest pg should end with magic and him only. there's magic as the best pg of all time, and then there are others.

Also, since we are talking about 80-90s game. What happen to sky hooks in today's game? Has that become a lost art?

With the disclaimer that it's WNBA and probably nobody cares :p -- Brittney Griner trained with Kareem a lot before the start of last season and tried it quite a bit.

God, can you imagine the Laker crapstorm if he started killing opponents using Kareem's signature move? It would be EPIC.

don't waste your own time to argue with very few unreasonable posters. on this board, no matter who you are, including LOFs, 95% posters here won't say lin is close to cp3. what you did is to stir up something which is not shared with the majority and make LOFs look bad.

Agreed. Stockton = clutch, Malone = choke.

IMO Lin would really benefit from having Jerry as his coach.

Stockton is not overrated. And rumor was that Isiah Thomas wasn't put on the Dream team because Jordan wouldn't play if Isiah was selected.
