The first set of stats are for Chris Paul and the second set are for Lin. Lin has played a little less than 4000 minutes in his career which equates to about 110 games, per 36, while the number in parentheses is per 48. Because I had nothing better to do and I like stats, I went through Paul's numbers and tracked his stats until I got to the same minute total for Lin. I was surprised at how similar the numbers are.
Paul's points, assists, rebounds are all slightly higher and his turnover rate is lower. Lin is shooting better than Paul was at that point particularly the three-point shot.
The difference from a guy who is widely regarded as the best PG to a PG that is shuffled around the 1st unit/bench for his career isn't that much. Lin's been under extra scrutiny his whole career and let's not ignore the elephant in the room as to the reason. I'm not saying Lin will have the career Paul has, but given freedom and the chance to shine I think he can be something special. Before I get any hate comments, please note I'm using pure stats.

For a guy who's considered to be overpaid and overrated, and recent benched to boot, with shaky handles, can't go left to save his life, is a defensive sieve, has the worst lateral quickness many people say in the league, and no jump shot, dude sure puts up incredible stats. 2nd I'm drives per game, 1st in team ppt when he drives in the entire league. I wonder what that means.

One more thing - If our team get used to the game with only 4 guys on the court, we can take advantage during critical games by adding 1 more player in the game - thats like 6 vs 5!

Just because LOF, you want the team to lose by putting Lin to the bench? Interesting thought.

Beverley isn't a proven starter yet. Why are you so confidence?

Paul is a proven winner. That's the difference. He has won all kinds of championships. I mean, hasn't he?...

what this tells me is that lin is a good player, and 2 years into his career, chris paul was considered a good player as well with few holes in his game, and certainly not as revered as he his now.

chris has sustained and improved his production over the years which is the biggest difference. he is now the best PG in the game and has earned that moniker. what this tells me, is that there's a lot of potential in lin, as we all know. whether he has the ability or the opportunity to sustain or improve on his production, we don't know.

this also tells me that the league is deep. other than lebron, there's not a whole lot in terms of talent and ability that separates the top guys from middle guys. yes, there are differences in talent, for sure. but talent is only one part of the equation - you also need to be given the right opportunity and circumstances to succeed.

I'm a pretty big Lin fan and advocate for him where I see fit, but we should NEVER include Chris Paul and Jeremy Lin in the same conversation.

This alone should separate the two-

Year 3 in the league -

    Lin- 2,640 MP/ 497 Assists / 1095 pts scored/ .099 WS

    CP- 3006 MP/ 925 Assists/ 1684 pts scored/ .284 WS

Maybe Lin makes that kind of jump up in one category, but on a team like the Rockets, there is no way he's going to do contribute in all these different facets, and still have a winning team. What Chris Paul has been able to do his first 9 years in the league isn't just elite.... its remarkable, and the criticism he might or might not face for winning it all is certainly not justifiable.

Its unbelievably unfair to both players to compare the two in any way shape or form.

I agree. But again Harden shares the point guard positions with Lin so some of his numbers will be split with Harden. Like Lebron splits pg numbers with Chalmers.

CP3 is legit/elite player, I give you that. But he ain't MJ/Lebron. Those two remarkable, CP3 ain't. In fact, I would say AI is more remarkable than CP3. At least AI single handedly took his team to NBA Championship.

really like lin since he became a rocket and as much as I hate cpflop, comparing them reminds me of when DD compared Budinger's rookie stats to Kobe bryant's rookie stats. =P
