*In before someone tells you that you shouldn't feel bad for a millionaire.* I love Omer, he doesn't complain, he just goes out there and does the dirty work. I wish him the best whether he stays a Rockets or gets traded elsewhere.
Yeah, the millionaire thing is pretty ridiculous. If he wasn't doing his job I'd feel differently about it, but he clearly is.
Unfortunately for him, he doesn't catch well so guys are hesitant to rifle a bullet pass to him because in the back of their minds, they think he either won't catch it, will bobble it, or even if he does catch it attempt some ridiculous looking layup instead of dunking it with authority. I lover Omer and I want them to keep him, but this is partially on him. He needs to instill confidence in his teammates by catching passing and going up strong. I see guys look away from him all the time because of this.
I never get the he's a millionaire I shouldn't feel sorry for him thing. He worked extremely hard to get to where he is.
Feel bad for him? Why? He was joking with Garcia that he missed so bad that he couldn't tell whether it was a shot or a pass. Why would you feel bad for any reason in that situation?
Especially with Garcia's recent shooting, you could make a convincing argument that he should never try to pass that to Omer. For example: 1. Garcia hits the 3 40% of the time and when he misses, Omer gets the offensive rebound half of the time and converts that for 2 points: 0.40*3+0.60*0.50*2= 1.80 pts 2. Garcia tries to pass which results in turnover 20% of the time. The 80% Omer gets the ball and he is able to convert them with 90% success rate: 0.20*0+0.80*0.90*2= 1.44 pts
Because the joke is just as much no one is passing to him there as it is Garcia missed the shot. He was standing completely alone under the basket with no one near him, which should be a higher percentage shot than a 3. If Howard was there, you should be passing to him.
