exactly what Vince are you trading for? The Sportscenter highlite Vince is done. What you get now is a 20 foot fade-away jump shooter who is confused on defense. I'm a season-ticket holder here in Toronto. I want to get rid of Vince. What we need is a real pg so Alvin Williams can play the 2 and a big guy who can score and create.
Um, if you're gonna put it that way then anybody in this league can be traded. Then no player in this league is untouchable as long as the offer is right and as long as it fits in King Stern's CBA. For example, you think Lakers would trade Shaq for Nowitzki, Nash AND Finley (if under the cap)? The point is, VC, like anybody else in this league, is tradable, just not for guys like Mobley and certainly not by somebody like Glen Grunwald.
omfg, you guys are r****ded. Vince can only dunk and shoot jumpers? he can pass, layup, hit the 3... The majority of SGs are better than Vince on D? Vince is an average defender...and a good defender when he tries. Vince is injury-prone. He was never injured in college or high school. He has only had knee problems, which seem to be healed right now. The sprained ankle was caused by landing on someone's foot...anyone who's ever played basketball knows that it is a common injury. Vince is soft. He may have a low-pain threshold, but he does drive to the basket and play physical. Vince is a star and gets calls from the refs. He does not get any respect from the refs whatsoever. He should call out the refs more to the media, like McGrady did...now McGrady gets calls whenever he's breathed on.
Shaq is Shaq. Vince, however, is the knight fallen off his horse. His identity to and with Toronto is hurting both Vince and the franchise. Toronto needs to blow up their team, get rid of some horrible contracts, reinvent themselves. Therefore, both VC and Ad are 'out there'. Both could be moved, both taking horrible contracts of others with them. There will be takers. One will surely be traded. Maybe both. The Raps roster to look wholly different by November.
Raptors ready to clean house By ROBERT MacLEOD From Saturday's Globe and Mail Toronto — With 11 games remaining in a most lamentable season for the Toronto Raptors, the National Basketball Association team is poised to make a series of sweeping changes to try to alter the club's sinking fortunes. For the record, all team president Richard Peddie will confirm is that every member of the organization, from himself down to the ball boys, will be subject to a thorough review once the season is over. http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/story/RTGAM.20030328.wraps28/BNStory/Sports
I may be over-estimating his trade potential, but I thought that Eddie may still be looked at as a future star. He's a 20 year old with above average blocked shot skills & seemed to possess a three point shot at one time. BTW he is still no worse of a prospect than any of his peers save A. Stoudamire. (peers include: Eddie Curry, Tyson Chandler, and Kwame Brown) As for Cat, he is not Vince, but he's not that much behind. If Vince is a 90, Cat is an 81. I dont live in Toronto so I dont know the local sentiment, but everything I ever hear is dogging vince for not taking over. Toronto thinks they should be a contender in the east, so they could be willing to shake things up. Its happened before!!!!
The only knock on Vince Carter I have is that he is getting paid the max and he is playing like a role player this year even with the injury. Funny how a player starts playing better when his contract year is coming up. He was going to be the next Jordan cause he was so dam explosive now he is fading into the never was and never will be. As for the Grant Hill comparisons. Well, let me tell you this, I would much rather have Grant Hill then Vince Carter on my team. Even when Hill was injured he tried to bring his "A" plus game. The guy loves to play basketball and he loves to give it his all. That is what I love about Grant Hill. The guy was as close to Micheal Jordan as anyone else in the league before he got injured in regards to his work ethic and love for the game. At least Grant Hill shows his heart everynight. I'm not sure if Vince Carter does. But beyond the statistics, Vince Carter is a good, no, is a great second option for any team in the league. Carter isn't selfish enough nor has the hunger to lead a team; however, he does possess enough qualities to be a second option, a Scottie Pippen if you will. He has the talent, there is no doubt about that but he is no Micheal Jordan. Jordan possessed the fire and determination to beat any player regardless of size, speed, or athletic talent. That is what is wrong with this league. People talk about Kobe Bryant and Tracy McGrady being the next Jordan. There is a possiblity that both those players are more athletically gifted then Jordan but neither player can match Jordan's 1) Will to win 2) Respect from opposing players, league, officals..etc 3) Charisma 4) Leadership qualities. Those players are light years away from Jordan in those areas. That is what made Jordan so special not only was he an amazingly athletically gifted player but he had all these other intangible qualities about him. Of all players of any era Jordan has more street Credits then Allen Iverson, Kevin Garnett and Stephon Marbury combined. There will never be another Jordan cause "the bald air flying tongue hanging magician" is a once in a life time. I'm glad I got to see this guy play. I think the Rockets should watch tapes of Jordan and watch how he out willed his opponents. We could all learn a thing from this guy. Not that I'm suggesting we go into a triangle offense but lets just play with more determination and will to win.
I can't believe this. Before I go any further, can I ask all of you, "Have you forgotten what Vince Carter was, before his injury?" A serious question; I want to see what you guys thought of his pre-injury, because Mobley and Griffin would definitely not get you Carter.
Like it or not, VC is still a superstar, that alone is worth more than Cat and EG. Like I said, VC can be gotten cuz he's not untouchable. But when you're trading for VC you're talking Kobe TMac type players, maybe one level below, maybe a bit more if he's healthy, either way you look at it you're not getting him with Cat and EG. The worst they can do is get a Ray Allen type player. I don't know where you get that crazy idea from but they MAY (a big if) trade EITHER VC or AD, NOT BOTH. Most likely AD cuz he has a huge prob with Canadian fans. But it makes absolutely no sense for Toronto to trade away their 2 best players, especially now their trade value had fallen, no sense at all. Get it? I just don't see VC getting trades cuz they won't likely get TMac or Kobe, even if they do get lucky and land Lebron James. BUT EITHER WAY, YOU'RE NOT GETTING HIM WITH CAT AND EG. Can't believe I had to say that 3 times.
First of all, review does not mean trade. For example, I'd almost bet my lunch money Lenny Wilkins will be gone after this season. Even if it does mean trade, the Raptors have a lot more chance of trading other players, like Jeffries, Lenard, Murray, etc. Secondly I trust the guy that makes the trade decisions (ie. Glen Grunwald, who basically said you better come up with a pretty damn good offer if you want Carter on National TV), not the president.
Would you trade VC for Kobe? Yes. Like I said nobody is untouchable with the right trade. The only reason people would do this trade now is cuz Vince's knee. I like to remind you that 2 years ago before his injury VC was better than Kobe: he was getting better numbers, single handed brought the Raptors to the playoffs, he sells tickets and he was "the next Jordan." The only knock against him was he didn't play with heart or he'd be even better. If you propose Kobe for VC back then Toronto would likely have said no. But I already mentioned how Carter's stock drop a lot cuz of his knee. Call me a Vince fan, but unlike some on this board I just don't see Cat and Eddie for Vince.
Another case of over-estimating our own players eh? Please put our homerism aside and see things like the general public... Griffin's value was probably a little higher than the likes of Curry and Chandler last year. But certainly not this year after yet another average NBA season. After 2-3 months of good play by Curry and Chandler, they're rated higher right now. Griffin may be on a par with Kwame, most likely a bit lower because Kwame's a former No. 1 pick after all and had the excuse of being benched unfairly unlike Griffin who got PT regularly and just didn't produce much. And no, Cat's not close to Vince as a player. Vince's probably only playing at 70% this season but still put up better numbers than Cat. That showed me and general people 1 thing, Vince's much better than Cat as a player. Rating SGs of this league, Kobe and T-Mac are certainly in a class of their own and AI and Pierce follow. I would put Vince in the AI, Pierce class when he's healthy. No Cat's not even close to that class and never will. And there are still SGs like Finely, Hamilton and Houston who are at the same level if not better than Cat IMO. And I don't even begin to mention the market value of Vince Carter. He's voted in ASG despite being injuried, that showed his huge popularity. He's 1 of the few NBA players who are really well-known worldwide and he's also 1 of the few players in the league who could draw crowd to the arena. No no no Toronto franchise would give up such Vince Carter so easily, especially only for 2 players like Griffin and Cat. Even they want to rebuild, do you really see Griffin and a 28-year-old Cat as good building blocks? Hell we don't think they're good enough to be our building blocks, what made them good enough for Toronto?
AD has a trade kicker on an already fat contract. Players have been notoriously stingy about waiving the trade kickers. I think I recall hearing somewhere that if a player waives the trade kicker, it is gone for good (and they could subsequently find themselves in Cleveland, etc.).
Toronto doesn't need to rebuild their managment has stated over and over again that Carter WILL NOT be traded...unless of course they get an offer thats too good to refuse....Mobley + Griffing doesn't qualify. Comparing Grant Hill to Vince is extremely unfair. Grant Hill has faced MAJOR reconstructive surgery on his ankle multiple times. Vince Carter had MINOR surgery on his knee once. BIG DIFFERENCE.
Wow, how'd I miss this thread?! I like Vince. I think he would be a great addition to the Rocks as a scorer who doesn't dominate the ball consistently. But then again, I'd rather sign Corey Magette. Similar athleticism, improving range, and fearless going to the rim. IMHO, Magette is a cheaper version of Carter minus the 3pt range (but Magette's much more aggressive off the dribble).
I never said EG and CM would bag VC. I never said Rox could bad VC. I said Rox should pursue VC hard, as many teams will, because VC is out there. It will mean taking a bad contract or two, as well, so any deal for Vince from any team will be huge. Rox' roster is worth being gutted, particularly for the right player(s). Vince is such a player.
