Vince will be available this off season. It will be a huge trade, if it goes down, because both teams would have to swap lots of contracts. The Rox SHOULD pursue VC, and pursue him hard. They won't be alone.
I'll trade the Cat for a song Really, even if we don't get anybody back! It will help other players to flourish with the extra playing time and the available shots ...
Exactly, but how about Stackhouse who has quietly been going about his business putting up big numbers and staying healthy? Stackhouse even reminds me of Drexler a little.
Mobley and Rice for Carter and Hakeem would work salarywise, after July 1st (when Carter BYC status lifts). Why would Toronto do this? See Denver's trade earlier this year with Dallas. One-sided talent wise, driven by financial reasons and Denver's desire to rebuild. Toronto needs to rebuild. Their management has stated that no one is safe. They could jump start their rebuilding Denver-style if they dump the 100 million man, in exchange for an arguably underpaid Cuttino Mobley (whom they previously courted) and an expiring contract in Glen Rice (freeing up $10 million in cap space). And they save $6 million in salary obligation to Hakeem to boot. And the fans would not revolt in Toronto - he has already been getting bad press there, anyway. It is the Rockets that would be taking a Grant Hill-sized gamble with this trade, not Toronto.
Cat and Eddie for Vince! I don't really think that the Raptors pull that. How about Francis and Ming for Vince! Shut the door! This deal is dead like a dead fish floating out in the water.
You have no idea what you're talking about do you? Glen Grunwald basically said on TV that VC and AD are untouchable. His exact words, "no one is untradable, but it's pretty hard to part with Vince and Antonio." If you want to get VC you better come up with a better offer than Cat and EG. Cat, with all due respect, is a second rate talent and EG is a kid with no foreseeable future and a drug problem. They are trading VC for those two because...? Carter is damage goods but he's still relatively long and there is no proof that the injuries would last his entire career. Either way you look at it they can get more from Vince than those two. If Rox can pull this off all fans would be running up and down the streets with glee.
VC is likely to be traded, AD, as well. GG is upping their trade value etc etc. I don't swear either/both will be traded. I do swear both will be spoken about long and hard by most teams. I would gut the Rox roster for Vince, all but SF and YM. But then I might gut this Rox roster for a lot less than VC, too.
No to Carter. Toronto will never do this anyway. Carter is a serious risk attitude and injury wise. This is an over rated hot dog. Give me some role players to complement Steve and Yao instead.
vince carter has never been known to have an attitude problem. if anything, he's been criticized for being too unselfish and easygoing.
ummm.. as a toronto raptors fan.. you guys are crazy... we aren't gonna trade vince... he's gonna bounce back and be much healthier next year... he's gonna be working out throughout the summer on his body... making sure his body is strong enough to take the beatings every night... and when he is healthy... he's gonna be up there with the elite... he's very coachable... fills seats.. unselfish... the only guy I would trade vince for on the rockets is yao... trading vince for francis would keep us out of the playoffs for years...
What's funny is that as off the wall as this trade sounds, it is remarkably similar to the Grant Hill trade. Who did Detroit get in that trade, but a young servicable power forward who nobody thought was that great... Ben Wallace. I'm not saying that EG is Ben Wallace, but then again, nobody thought Wallace would be what he is today. Also, Carter is on the cusp of being a Grant Hill story with all his injuries. I'm not saying it is the same, but you have to at least acknowledge the similarities... As long as the we seem to be discussing pipedream trades, how about sending a CM and EG to LAC for Brand and a scrub, say Dooling? That works with the cap, I think, but then again, why would LAC do that. But hey, stranger things have happened, especially with the Clippers.
The last thing we need is a gutless, often injured prima donna like Vince on this team. He might sell tickets though... on the road.
I think the biggest thing this team needs (as stated above) we need quality for quanity. For one thing I do not think we should trade Eddie Griffin. I think he should play here a long time. And hopefully gradually improve. I think our best trade bait would be to trade Mobley and Glen Rice to a rebuilding team that needs cap space. Glen only gets paid for one more year and Mobley is above average for a below average price. Obviously other players on the Rockets have SOME value but the above I think is the best. At least with what the Rockests are going to part with.
Hill was a S&T...and that should tell you something about how fair a trade this is. Guys, you seriously don't seem to understand how valuable Carter is...it was just 2 seasons ago he basically single handedly brought the Raptors to within 1 shot of the ECF...and he has had 1 major injury since then. He also is the guy who made Toronto into one of the top ticket selling teams in the league...pretty much by himself. Since McGrady left, and even to a degree while he was here, Carter has had to do what basically no one has been able to do much better: single handedly carry a team to the playoffs while being the only guy oposing defenses key on every night...and he did it back to back years, and had the Raps within 3 games of the top spot in the East before he got hurt last year...then unwisely tried to play hurt, and ended up hurting the team and himself more in the bargain. Since then the critics and those who resent the press he was getting have come out of the woodwork, but that has gone too far the other way, and now that he is healthy ( his sprained ankle was nothing to do with his knee, and if you saw it happen, just one of those things that could happen to anyone ) and playing with fire ( if you saw him in the last 10 games before the ankle you'll know what I mean) and as of right now if the Raps lose to the Heat tonight, which given that they have to go with 7 or 8 players again, is probable, they are in a posisiton to have 1 of the top 3 picks...that means that Carter will finally get the 2nd star that every star needs to win; James, Anthony, or Darko... ...and you think that Toronto is going to give that up for Mobley and Griffin!?!?!?!? And best of all, for money!?!? Carter is what makes the Raps one of the top selling teams in the NBA...without him they're near the bottom...I don't know who is peddling this stuff, but it makes no sense. Yhis is a guy who goes to the hoop better than anyone and, when healthy, is a 40% 3-pt shooter ( something neither kobe, T-Mac, Iverson, or Jordan ever has done) to boot, is a good enough ball handler to play the point on occasion ( though not good enough to do it full time, as he was talking about doing) has an amazing 1st step, and can when he wants, play shut down defense...which he was doing before he hurt his ankle. He has no attitude at all, if anything, as people have said, he needs to be persuaded to be less of a team guy, more of a me guy...and Olympics aside, rarely ever showboats, never gets into off-court trouble...and the Raps are looking to dump him? If you saw anything of the Raps over the last month and a half you would know that Carter was the only consistent thing they had going for them, and the concern in Toronto was to try and get him to take over...which he was doing when he was hurt. I really can't beleive how on-and-off the bandwagons some fans can be about players they don't know much about.
MacBeth, I don't disagree with you at all. The VC trade proposal is ludicrous at best. Just thought it was funny how it seemed remotely similar to the Grant Hill trade. I forgot that the Hill deal was a sign and trade, that certainly makes the similarities "more remote." All that other stuff about VC's $ value due to his fan support is dead on too. Toronto would be crazy to trade him, especially for Mobley and Griffin. Maybe we should wait another 10 years, when VC is old but still wants to play, somewhat like a certain ex-rocket superstar. Then we can sign him for much more than he is worth and let him sit on the bench because of injuries! It would be the gentlemanly thing to do, I suppose.
