Good job on McHale for tinkering with the lineups and rotations. We need to do this in the regular season so players we can find exactly what works in the Playoffs.

Oh, and more shots for AB0 please :D

Its a LONG season. There's nothing wrong with using the first month to get a feel for what works and what doesn't. Its common for starting lineups to change from the beginning of the season to the end (to take just one recent example -- Miami last year).

Thank you Francisco GODcia and Jesus Lin! Their spark came at the right time. Jeremy's D on Walker was great. Dwight in mid-season form

Only fails today were the Twin Towers looking like s**t when the opposing PF is a stretch 4 and Chandler thinking he's the 3rd superstar (lol...[IMG]) thankfully Coach McHale reeled his ass in.

Ugh, those Harden and Beverly injuries tho.
Really hoping they are nothing serious and they're ready to go Friday cuz Brooks should've even be getting any minutes that aren't garbage time tbh :(

No. The whole point of the regular season for championship caliber teams is to FIGURE OUT the ideal combinations. Sticking with a static starting lineup and hoping it gels is not an ideal solution when you are potentially missing out on better combinations.

If one of the greatest NBA coaches of all-time can tinker with his starting lineup, so can McHale. And to suggest a starting lineup change single-handedly was why the Spurs lost is being very disingenuous.

You don't tinker in the playoffs, the regular season is where you do the tinkering. NBA coaches don't tinker with starting lineups on a nightly basis because players tend to separate themselves from backups early on, but astute coaches mix it up in the regular season because otherwise you won't know what you have. It took half a season for Adelman to give Patrick Patterson any PT at all when we had nobody at the 4, that's not exactly great coaching.

Rudy T, tinkered during the regular season and in the playoffs, you tinker if you have to.

I wish people would just calm down and enjoy the win.....whomever plays and how much..

No but that isn't what McHale is suggesting. McHale is saying that he will change things based on match ups. And isn't the PG position probably the position where you need the most consistency at? Like you don't see Memphis or Philly or Pacers tinkering with there PG's? And those are teams with just solid PG's. And if it changes from the beginning to the season to the end of the season I don't mind but changing things based on which team you are playing etc seems a bit to much for me. Or maybe I am imagining the worst because its McHale.

it may not have been the sole reason but it was a part of it. And I don't say that lightly one of the guys who i trust explicitly on all things NBA haralabos said as much after the series. And we aren't saying that McHale has the tenure to do whatever he wants with his starting line up similar to the greatest NBA coaches of all time. Are those two things equal?

Howard and Harden PnR all day! Reminds me of the T-Mac + Yao PnR that was so effective when they were both healthy. Going to be an epic season, gaiz!

Lin was good today as well! Very good supporting player. 6th man of the year candidate

I thought lin's d was stellar. He fought thru picks and I only saw 1 or 3 plays where his man beat him.

The beginning was really bad, to much ISO and forcing the issue. Feel bad for bev but I felt like he wasn't there defensively in the first few mins. When he stArts being aggressive on d he got hurt. The offense needs to run more which hurt us in the beginning.

Dwight was a monster on the boards and asik was greAt. We got killed when their 4 man went to the 3 pt line. That exposed our d a little bit. Since Dwight had to go out far and recover back to the paint for help defense.

The twin towers worked well. He post entry pass was getting better, ab0 prob does the entry pass the best since he did it with Yao.

All in all a good first game.

God, the forum was never this annoying even when Yao was playing. We had the YOF's but they were not this unreasonable. We even had Pryuen making epic videos and all that.

Those teams you mention don't have pgs of the same caliber, we do. Memphis for example has no pg better than Mike Conley who else will start?

Regarding Mchale I think his approach might not be wrong because the Rox team as constructed can play differently. We have all the players needed to play big, play small, slow it down or speed it up so if we encounter a team that can be owned by a certain playing style, why not? Against the Heat for example, I'd like it if Asik to come off the bench so we can have 48 mins of elite rim protection.

Early on he might experiment with different lineups based on matchups, but I don't think he'll be doing that throughout the regular season. I guess we'll see.

Though, it should be noted that teams commonly change their starting lineups in the playoffs for "matchup" purposes.

What are some if you people talking about? The NBA is all about matchups. Coaches are consistently tinkering. You don't do it in the playoffs? Well what if you are deep team and getting your teeth kicked like Miami last year by the spurs. You go with whatever works, could be different combos all season depending on the matchups.
