7'4 center,Ming Yao, from China will enter
01's NBA draft according to some medium sources of China.
Yao has legimimate NBA body as well as agility and skills of "20 years old".

He is becoming hotter in the coming draft (ESPN:espn.go.com/nba/columns/hughes/839620.html), all my best wishes to him, if Rockets
can pick him up around 7~10, I will feel
    it is fair deal.
His NBA idol is Sabonis(??) and he feels the Blazer has the best team in NBA currently.

Can anyone tell me which range of picks Rockets has in 2001 draft?

The Rockets will not get this guy. I heard a NBA GM say that several teams have him number one (!) in next year's draft if he can get clearance from his Shanghai team.

Also, I think he is 7 foot 5 inches.

I've heard he may be as tall as 7'6'' and still growing. Rudy got an up close look at him (Olympics) and will be able to judge. A little early, but a Tsakalidis-esque fall is not out of the question. Especially if an NBA future is uncertain.

He didn't impress me that much at the Olympics. Tall, yes, but no footwork to speak of. But if he's only 20, might be worth a look. But not at #1 overall!!!

What are you Francis 3, all of 12 years old? Or does the 3 stand for your age.

Yeah he sucks so bad, he'd spank you, on your dads shoulders, on your grandpas shoulders and 4 of your brothers.

Funny, he sucks but your the "vice president" of the Jason Collier fan club.

I watched him during olympics and he definitely has potential. He shot one right over garnett. He got in foul trouble against the USA because he wasn't used to the speed.

Being 7'5" and probably still growing, he has a lot of speed and good handles. He's problably not even used to his body yet.

He will definitely go #1. Remember, big men these days come at a premium. Look how much we pay Cato.

Forget borderline, that's a flat out ignorant, racist comment. I'm really getting sick and tired of comments like that.

I heard he's pretty good.....from what I heard, he's tall AND he's skillful....But I doubt the Rockets have a chance to pick him up.....The more the big men in next year's draft, the more the chance that the Rockets will pick up their SF of the future....

I've heard he's actually pretty fast (for his size) and understands the game. Who knows if that's just Commie propaganda, but if there's a chance it's true, then we oughtta at least take a closer look.

Guys with that size don't just fall in your lap every day...

I've seen Yao Ming play and feel that the guy has a future in the NBA. All he needs is to bulk up on the size. He has the footwork and a sweet outside shot, but playing Center in the NBA means a lot of banging - thats where he is weak, but that is nothing you can't fix. One solid year in the weight room should take care of that.

Besides, in an interview, he said Hakeem Olajuwon was his favorite player in the NBA. Definitely a nice fit with the Rockets. But as others have pointed out, the key with him is obtaining his release from his local team. Most NBA teams would shy from that looking at what happened with the Mavs and Wang Zhi-Zhi.

An aside. Most foreign players are loaded with talent, but what they sorely lack is good coaching. If these players would have been raised in an environment similiar to the NCAA, high school etc, I think we would have healthier competition.

He is skinny. And he plays for a Commie team (he only gets released if the Party feels it no longer needs him - or has no chance with him in the next Olympics whatsoever)...

    Is that it?

We lose nothing by paying attention and petitioning the Chinese for his release to NBA draft. He's gonna make an excellent center - a rare commodity...

I would only want him on the Rockets roster if Moochie can give him cornrows. Actually I'd settle for a freaked out fro'. We could have him get little wierd tattoo's all over his body and make him wear lot's of gold. I just wouldn't feel comfortable with him in PJ's unless he had a little gangst' strut.

    What do you think?

It is reported that Yao had got the approval
from his current club, he is being supported by his family and his coach on going to NBA.
Wang Zhi Zhi is somewhat a pathetic boy now, The team of army wouldn't let him go anywhere else,or they will lose their national championship right away.He is so frustrated by his team.

I agree with SamCassel, Yao maybe good enough playing in NBA, but not at #1 at all.
He is only a 20 years old boy, without
NCAA's hardship.I doubt that there is any kids merely at 20 deserves top five picks.
Both overrating and underrating do no good
    for this boy.

I like Rocketsauce's idea. Give him a 'fro. Hell, maybe if we paint him black they'll lose him with the customs baggage...

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]

(the Communists would just think he's a drug-monkey - they expect black people to shove drugs up their butts in airports...)

Communists. I'm not sure how nice you guys think THOSE guys really are...

Ming Yao does not really have a choice. He will have to - HAVE TO - get permission from the Party.

Sounds like good news to me. Hopefully, the Clippers will pick him up and we'll end up with better quality with our pick(s).
