I hope this lights a fire under his ass. No reason not to take charge and lead as the main guy in the 2nd unit. Bring on the season!!!

    Exactly!

What I do like in the situation now is that Lin has nothing to loose... he will still get paid no matter what he does... what will they do trade him? worse thing is to be seated at the end of the bench to which he still gets to be paid 25 mil... ain't really a bad deal lol

A lot of Lin fans should take note of this.

    Good post

NBA has been marketing players instead of teams for the last 20 years. That is where them money is. Old school fans may not like it but this is the way it is now and that's the way it's going to stay.

Fans come to the game in different ways. Some live in an NBA city, some are drawn in by a player, some start watching because their friends watch. Nothing wrong with any of that. Also nothing wrong with being a Lin fan, as long as your fandom isn't at the expense of the team.

Good Post, I wish everyone could be as rational as you.

That's true, and it is a really negative tone as well. Shouldn't we all cheer for both Lin and the Rockets to succeed? Lin is on the team and part of the Rockets, him contributing whether on bench or starter should be both positive as long as the W gets pulled out. Instead you have two groups spamming each other about who is a scrub and who will get theirs. lol Civil War

I hope so. Sometimes, i got convinced on the idea that Lin should shed his "i am a good boy, i follow instructions" mentality. Go out there and go HAM! Damn those coaches (not too obvious) and play your game. What's the worst thing that can happen to him, get benched? He is a bench player now anyway. He still gets his money. Upside is great, linsanity plays - high action even with turn-overs. Upside is better than downside. Worst, he get traded... Then start again, worst worst, get paid, use his econ major to find other job.

You guys have no patience. Seriously. Wade and LeBron play together and no one would say they aren't both playmakers. Yeah, Wade does much less ball handling and playmaking now, but they played lousy together for months and didn't gel very well the first year. Now they do and give some of the more exciting 2 man plays you want to see in the games at times. There are so many games where both Harden and Lin scored in double figures, sometimes over 20 apiece and both had over 8 assists and they shared the playmaking. That doesn't come right away, it takes time. Yes, you can stagger their minutes but Harden and Lin will play together regardless of whether Lin comes off of the bench or not. And it's interesting how Rocket fans, at least the one's here, don't seem to care about the Lin/Howard chemistry that could have been dynamic. Harden isn't the only starter. Watching one player over-dominate and not share the ball is boring basketball to me. That's why I don't like the Knicks and how much Melo hangs on to the ball or how Kobe plays. Harden isn't that but the bad Harden has some of that in him and the better Harden moves the ball around and let's another guard who is capable share the playmaking.

I think Lin fans need to manage their expectations. Linsanity will probably not happen again and I think that management probably thought this way about Lin when they brought him in. He's a dynamic point guard who can carry the offense for stretches. But he's not an all star caliber player who will carry a team to the playoffs and beyond. Once you accept this set of facts, the situation becomes easier to accept. Good luck, Lin fans.

Great points. My only concern is that Harden will become the de facto PG. He will have to set up everyone, with Bev on defense against the opposing PG which is his strength.
I am glad Harden will move the ball around, but will he be able to score efficiently while keeping his turnovers down at the same time?

I never paid a lot of attention to the LOF thing but recent threads have made it so you can't ignore it.

Hate to lose any fans of the team, since this is such a Texans-dominated town anyway.

Thing is, the 2nd unit simply needs a playmaker. Now, Lin has the size, strength, and talent over Brooks, so naturally Lin is first point guard off the bench, and will probably get up to 30 mpg anyway.

Lin obviously worked on his game over the summer. Until the sinus infection thing, he looked good out there. But is he worth more than 8 times the salary of Pat Beverly? Will he tolerate both a demotion AND salary cut in 2015 when his current contract ends?

And the falloff from Lin to Brooks isn't so steep---sorry, but it isn't---should Lin and / or Asik net us a third star. Not saying it'll happen. As a Rockets fan, I hope Lin kills it, I really do.

But remember: McHale prefers grit, and Morey is never done dealing.

Will he still be here by 2015? And would they have won a chip? Lots of things to consider. Regardless the new season holds a lot of drama and mystery to unravel which will make the games even more exciting lol

For those who supported the idea to let Lin play off bench, I hope you will speak out when the haters trash him about being benched. He should be more appreciated for being such a team player!!!

Look at the news headline, it is vastly unfair to him. How much hit does he have to take? Where is the voice about it is for the better of the team???!!!

Nothing wrong with this picture. It is still relevant, four most impactful players.

I assume Manu was featured prominently in Spurs promotional materials during the several years he was an all star or finished among the top dozen for MVP votes.

This is a "fit" decision. I urge Lin fans not to get upset about it, and I urge Lin haters who are gloating over the move to stop trolling and try to act like real Rocket fans.

Exactly. He's our Manu and I think this is the right decision.

Would like to see Lin avg 18pts / 7asts / 4rbs as sixth man. Possible if he gets 30 mins a night.
