That's why I asked if he had met him, that's also why I mentioned that he said he was very nice to him. I'm sure the truth is somewhere in the middle. What it sounded to me based off timing and what my friend said is that he didn't have the level of power he wanted. It doesn't make sense otherwise.
Doesnt Cuban specialize in a bunch of random little luxuries like that? that's how he attracts players, so i'm sure this wouldn't be an issue, if it were true, but i doubt it is.
It sounds like Rosas was under the impression that he was going to be running the team rather than be Donnie Nelson's sideman.
This is just a case of the Mavericks hirinf Rosas and giving him a title without any real power so they could suck talent away from another team (Rockets). Rosas attempted to exert himself and his opinion and Nelson was having no part of it. The Mavs are ran by Cuban and Nelson, PERIOD. Rosas found out the hard way, but in the long term may be better for it.
So then Rosas was lied to by Cuban/Nelson during the interview process. Hard to imagine him leaving Morey's team just to take on a similar role, but with less input. This doesn't look good for Dallas around the league, IMO.
It's probably for the best. Rosas would be pulling his hair out (what's left) watching Monta jack up threes at a 21% success rate. This Mavs team might be really, REALLY bad. They need Dirk to have an MVP season to even make the playoffs. Now let's get Rosas back in Rockets' red.
So is Nelson taking over as GM again? Or does Dallas believe they'll find someone who wants the title but will leave GM'ing to Nelson?
Cuban hired Rosas, sucked him dry for all of his intel, and then had him be a wingman to Donnie. Lame. I trust other up and coming GM types are taking notice.
This is how I imagine it has gone: Rosas: "What do you mean I am not allowed to trade Calderon and Ellis? I am not going to be the figurehead fall guy for your terrible basketball decisions." Cuban/Nelson in unison: "Then GTFO! That's what we are paying you for!"
