No question this is a demotion. I've known a couple of guys who've had tryouts with farm teams and they are treated as heroes in their local communities. So, yeah, being a sixth man is an "honor", but being a starter is more of an honor.

But nevertheless this is the best thing for the team and Lin. Team, for all the reasons stated -energy, extra playmaker, etc.

Lin, because he'll be able to play his style more often and build his comfort level in the NBA. Last year, his first full season, he had to play a different style than he was used to alongside Harden. He had to focus on letting Harden dominate the ball, be the playmaker, and it kind of messed him up to the point where people called him passive. Once he got a chance later in the games to run the show he was often hesitant and indecisive.

This year when he comes in he'll be able to be "essential Lin", a playmaker and more ball-dominant. If he's in with Bev, he's the natural playmaker. With Harden he'll be playing at a time Harden is a bit tired after the first 6 to 8 minutes and willing to let Lin be more active. Lin will be able to play to his strengths coming in, which should increase his comfort in his role and make it easier for him to adjust later to playing off the ball. In the same way, Bev will be coming in focusing on his strengths of being a pest defender at the start of games, giving him time to be more comfortable with more of a playmaker role.

We'll see how Bev and Lin develop this year. Both look good, both could grow into strong starters. Starting Lin on the bench will be good for the development of both of them, while maximizing the Rockets firepower over the full 48 minutes.

If the Rockets are better for it then nothing else matters. It's always about what's best for the team. Lin said as much in the interview. He even said that he, Mchale, and Beverley had all sat down and talked about it. You can complain all you want... but ultimately if you're claiming that you know more about basketball than a group of NBA coaches you're delusional. If it works and we win... great. If it doesn't then they'll change it.

That's why Bev fans were so excited to have him play that role, right? Oh no, actually they wanted Bev to start.

This is just shameful... if this is how they want to treat Lin, I hope he leaves when his contract is up and heads for a contender (and a coach) that knows his worth, or even returns to the Knicks.

What for? Dribbling beyond mid-court then passing the ball to Harden?

Yes because the Knicks really treated him with respect. Never made him an effort, never commented in his departure and engages in a massive local media spin to paint him as a traitor.

Yeah he should definitely go back to the Knicks according to yall

lol actually wanting Lin to go back to the Knicks, it's like you don't want him to accomplish anything.

last year, mchale couldn't wait to put bev in when games got close. what makes you think he'll trust lin more now? lin was, in his own words, allergic to 4th quarters last year. the only reason he was playing in 4th was because he was a starter and bev didn't join the team till middle of the season.

there's no reason to have lin play in tight games now, unless bev is in foul trouble or harden is hurt. he's an insurance policy against harden getting hurt, and that's it. it's gonna be up to lin to play balls out as a sub to force mchale to keep him in the game in 4th quarter. if he's playing as well as bev, he'll sit.

LOLs no team would be a contender with Lin as the best player, just accept the fact that Lin will contribute to an already built contender. and why would he return to the Knicks, that team is flawed in so many ways

A player playing 10 minutes a game gives him any recognition? You guys have to at least pay some respect to a player who put the team first rather than sugarcoat it and pretend that he does not sacrifice his game. It is obvious that Mchale has little influence on how Harden plays his game and he failed to make Lin and Harden work together. It is neither good for Harden nor for Lin. Watch how Harden played in OKC and how he plays now, can you see any difference except more minutes?

    Lin will be gone soon.

Poor Lin...its like Golden State, Keith Law and Acid Law all over again... sigh I remember watching him rot on the bench with his head hung low like it was yesterday. Now he's a bench player making start money so it won't be too bad since he's getting paid for it. Just wish we could see Linsanity again, well I guess the DVD will have to do. At least now if the Rockets lose to better pgs it won't be because of Lin.

Well what i hate is when a players potential is ruined just because he doesn't fit into the scheme of the offense. i feel the same way for jimmer fredette and i hate when good players are stuck on the wrong team.

McHale, Ginobli and Cousy would be proud.
