Why not try Harden+Howard+Lin as the Dynamic Trio for a chance to win a ring?

I was literally going to post the same thing. Lin did well against Lillard offensively. If your talking defense, I recall Lillard torching Pbev as well. Lin definitely outperformed Lillard and Lin wasnt even the first option. Damian Lillard was handed the keys and the first option at scoring for the most part.

Having said that, I dont see anything wrong with Lin playing with the second unit, when Pbev is with the second unit you see a dropoff in production. I wouldn't be surprised if McHale switches between the two players on who starts depending on what team and situation they are in.

That's not a valid basis for comparison. Minutes and usage are performance driven, along with other factors like teammates.

I almost don't want to say this because it might upset some people, but the god honest truth is the following...

Part of the reason Lin would have to come off the bench is that Bev simply can not run the second unit. Remember the Pelican's game? Then there was another preseason game where Bev with the second unit did "okay", one might suppose, however it was only because Garcia and Casspi were hitting EVERYTHING from three. The ball movement and play making with the Bev-led second unit in that game was limited entirely to everyone just standing behind the three point line and passing it to one another. No real playmaking. Look, the first unit is good--no, great--whether its Bev or Lin running the point, it's simply a matter of degrees. However the second unit is like night and day when the choice is Bev or Lin. In a very real way, Lin is in the second unit because he has to be.

 

As I recall the first meeting ,Lilard hardly scored for the first thee quarters when facing LIn. He did do better in the fourth quarter.I was not impressed with Lillard when watching his first game against us.

You misread. I mentioned the Pelicans game; and then I mentioned "another preseason game (i.e. besides the Pelicans game)" in which Garcia got hot.

Seriously WTF is going on here?

McHale is going to try whatever combination that is good for the team, the one that puts the TEAM in the best position to win, if that is Lin as a starter or off the bench, it doesn't matter, it is a TEAM game.

Sometimes it is about chemistry or fit - and not necessarily about whom is the better individual basketball player.

Just sit back, enjoy the HOUSTON ROCKETS as this is going to be a fun year.

Seriously folks. A year and a day ago this team's success was in the hands of Kevin Martin and Royce White. We've come a long way, so let's just enjoy this for at least a little while.

Damian Lillard's stats
FGM_FGA= 4-12, Assits=7 Points=11
Lin's Stats
FGM-FGA= 8-13
Assits=8
Points=22

Lin seemed to handle Lillard well during this game.

Isn't Wade/LeBron/Bosh a dynamic trio? I'm not talking about level of player but 2 playmakers on a team and a big man though Bosh is more a jump shooter than Dwight is. There are teams that have 2 playmakers whose skills overlap on a team. Going way back Walt Frazier learned how to play with Earl Monroe after awhile. And Frazier said Lin could play with Anthony, it would just take time. I see two things differently than some on the forum. 1. I think the chemistry needs to be developed with Howard and the point guard Lin and it'll pay off and 2. I think Lin is work in progress with a huge upside but needs to play through his mistakes and the coaching staff bothers me because they won't show confidence in him to let him do so. He's already shown what he can do even when making mistakes. He's proven.

And yes, this is a Harden/Howard/Lin thread, not a Lin thread because it is about the 3 players improving the team. So whether Lin starts or not, Lin/Howard/Harden chemistry should be established and see what happens.

 

The trio will not work because Harden and Lin has similar skill sets except Harden is better. Unfortunately, McHale is a bad couch and does not know how to maximize both talent players. He is over utilizing Harden and under utilizing Lin.

Lin will not be traded. He is a backup plan for Harden when Harden is down. Look at OKC and you will see the reason why Lin will not be traded.

 

As long as we win, why do we care!?
