How about trading Moochie Norris, Glen Rice and Eddie Griffin to Atlanta for Abdur Rahim and Terry? Houston could use Terry at the point (averages 7.4 per game) and Shareef at PF. Then we can move Francis to the 2. And let Cat be a spark plug of the bench. We can also continue to bring in Mo Taylor of the bench. Glen Rice got good trade value, Mooch is a true point and EG is a big talent. Atlanta is probably going to be willing to do some true changes after missing out on the playoffs again. In the end I think we got a solid roster that can start winning immediately, and taking us to the playoffs next year, and hopefully a championship after a while. Terry/Francis/Maddox Francis/Mobley Posey/Boki SAR/Mo-T/T-Mo Yao/Cato What's your thoughts about it?
um, Terry struggles with the same problems as Francis. Despite those assist numbers, he is more of a shooter. he's also smaller then cat. If we want a real pg, Terry is not the way to go.
I would except for the fact that they are already in an offense created around them, and they have yet to do anything in it. This makes me wonder whether or not it would actually help us with them playing even smaller rolls on a new team. Plus there is the fact there is no way in hell that they do that trade when there are other teams willing to give up even more.
Terry ranks sixth in the league in assists. He is a shooter, but he will not get so many shots, when we got Yao and SAR is down low. This means he can be more careful with his shot selection. And this season Terry has developed in to a great point guard. He was playing the 2 earlier, but he has played the point guard position this year. Why is it bad that he has a good shooting touch? The point is that he will not be able to jack up so many shots in Houston, with Francis, SAR and Yao around him. What's you're point in that he is smaller than Cat? So what? He is going to play point guard! A 6-2 point guard isn't bad. And I really believe that Terry will develop in to a 100% point guard. He ranks sixth in assists this year for gods sake.
If Atlanta is going to have the Denver-style firesale everyone says that they will, a one-sided trade (talent-wise) such as this is not out of the realm of possibility. Especially if they are shopping for Rice's $9-$10 million salary that comes off the book next summer. But we would have to probably take another one of the salary-cap dogs, such as Alan Henderson, in any deal.
Is ATL going to win without changes? NO Will Terry be happy if he wins? YES Will Terry win if this trade happens? YES
I like how you avoided answering my question, of how ATL did with Terry at "PG". ATL underachieved a lot more than the Rockets did. ATL couldn't be much worse than they were htis year. If they lost Terry, they might even be BETTER. They have too much talent to not be in the playoffs, yet the Terry at PG experiment failed miserably. And what the hell makes you think that we will win if we added Terry? He's basically a mix of Francis and Mobley. We don't need a 3rd guard to score. We need a big man who can defend inside.
How about we trade Steve Francis and Yao Ming for Nazr Mohammed, Dion Glover, and Alan Henderson instead? Makes just as much sense.
Actually, I've been wondering for a while now if the Rockets had a shot at trading for Terry. Not to start alongside Steve mind you, but rather to provide depth at the guard positions. The question is what do we have to offer? Obviously if they're looking to clear cap space, Glen Rice is a key component in any deal. But if the Hawks wanna shore up their center position, Cato might be a hot commodity.
Shareef is a poor defensive player, especially at PF. We get killed enough by opposing PFs as it is. No need to compound that problem. His offense is nice but would come at the expense of shot attmempts for Yao. Terry is not the answer at PG, either. Plus, his contract is up soon, and he'll want more money than the Rockets could give him. This trade is not feasible for the Rockets because it will put them WAY above the luxury tax threshold for the next decade. I'd pass on that trade idea.
