http://www.awfulannouncing.com/2013/october/espn-signs-doris-burke-to-a-multi-year-extension.html Very cool. Doris Burke is a consummate professional.
Because she is a woman and to some people no matter how good the woman is at talking sports they will still bash her or any woman for that matter.
She's gotten a lot better now, but early on she WAY overcompensated for being a female covering a male sport by ramming fact after fact about players and coaches down the audience's throat. I like her a little more now.
I'm sorry to say it, but I feel a lot of that hate has to do with the fact that she is a she. A thread from years back: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=148251&highlight=Burke Most of the criticism are variants of "she sounds like a man".
If they didn't like women and she sounded like a man wouldn't that make them like her more... anyway I agree with an earlier post that said she's just boring to listen to and watch. It has nothing to do with her being a woman.
Don't really care either way about Doris but it might be time to let Hubie Brown go. He's like 90 and sometimes it's like he falls asleep during the game.
An excellent move by ESPN! Doris Burke has become one of the best in her profession. I wasn't a fan when she first started working games, but she's improved significantly since her debut at ESPN. I enjoy listening to her call games. --Captain Decker
