XBox fitness is actually going to be pretty sweet...they have P90x, Insanity, and a few others from famous trainers. They coach you as you do the exercises, and based on your heart rate, they know if youre giving maximum effort or not.

    This can actually be useful.

I forgot to post this over the weekend, but some talk about a streaming service that MS is developing:

Ok, I have a general sort of question about this console.

My son is pretty much expecting one for Christmas, which is fine, I suppose I will try to get one.

But what I really don't know yet is the 'cost of ownership'.

Some things I don't know: will we be able to transfer existing XBox Live profiles onto the new console? My son's friends are all attached to his existing profile. Additionally, will I be able to simply transfer my existing XBox Live account over, or will I need to buy a whole new account and another $50 for the year..

    And what about the games?

What a joy to know that it is not backwards compatible! Yay! Hundreds and hundreds of dollars worth of games, and the only way to play them is on the old console! Good job Microsoft.

    And any other hidden costs/fees?

Hoping to know most of this stuff before making the commitment to a whole new expensive console.

    Thanks guys

XBL account "transfers" over. The same account works with each XB platform, and you don't need to pay another $50/yr just to game on XBO. With XBO, you should be able to sign in with your old account, see what your friends are doing (on 360), etc.

Yeah, 360 games are not playable on XBO. They could do some things where digital games might be playable...but that would only work if there is a XBO version, and the developer didn't like money (you'd likely need to pay $5-$10 at least to "upgrade").

Not really any additional hidden costs. Pretty much the same as the 360. There is a fitness app/game/thing that might start charging its own fee later on down that line, but that's not really hidden or anything (and that's only if you want to use it...and that's just a maybe for now, might not have to pay at all, other than the usual XBL subscription).

Launch edition Xbox Ones for preorder on Wal-Mart.com right now. They're a bundle so I think they make you buy a controller and a game, but if you've got the scratch they're there.

Wanted to chime in because this past weekend I got a chance to play xbox one for about 2 hours. GameStop and Microsoft teamed up to create this xbox tour and it happened to be in chicago so I had to check it out. I'll post some impressions. I have a tom of videos from my iphone but I'm not sure how to upload those. Hopefully someone can lie me know and I'll have em for you guys.

    1. The system: honestly it wasn't that big, I have the old white one and I'd have to say the length was the same but it was a tad wider. Since it's boxier than the 360 it def looked more sleek and decently slim but not anywhere near the slim xbox 360. Overall nice build, def a clean device to have in your entertainment center.

    2. The controller: I know there have been rave reviews about the controller but I wasn't that impressed. Yes, it had the multiple rumble motors which I did notice during my time playing fifa but the rest wasn't too impressive. For one the controler felt too light, maybe that's the way gamers like it but it felt too plasticky. The thumbsticks have been touted as shorter and more precise along with the texturized corners, but honestly I couldn't tell or feel the texturized part because it's actually very minimal. I did like the new xbox button, it was very responsive and just looked cool litup. The start button is now called menu button I think, at first it asked me to press it and I was thinking " what the hell is that". Finally the bumpers, sigh. I really hated this, it felt like cheap plastic added on to the controller. They didn't feel like individual buttons as they do for the 360. It felt more like a moveable body part on the controller. Overall it's ok but I wasn't impressed. It did feel a bit smaller but the feel was decent.

    3. The interface: I didn't get a chance to play with this as they had demos and timers for gameplay but I liked how if you pressed the xbox button the screen minimizes and continues to play In the background while you can browse through the apps and tiles. Felt like a cleaner version of windows 8.

    4. Ryse: ok this game is something I was really looking forward to and visually it definetly delivered. The controls are really simple, a- block, x and y are for attacks and b is to roll. The bumper is to activate the powers from the god you select in the beginning. (Health boosts, more damage, slowing down time etc). The r trigger is to initiate the execution once there is a skull above the enemies head. Once you hold r trigger you can press any face buttons and initiate some crazy executions. I saw one guy impale his sword through the enemies mouth. The fighting felt like the batman arkham games where you always press block at the time your about to get hit and then you can chain in a combo with a free flow style allowing you to attack multiple enemies without stopping the flow. I played in the arena against a horde of ai, and they progressively got more difficult because I couldn't counter them as easily, def a good sign. Other than that the controls were tight and conscise especially while maneuvering your character. I'd have to say this is a must buy and it is not a qte game, think of it's action like god of war meets arkham city.

    5. Fifa 14: damn, that's all I have to say. Amazing. The graphics, the crowd, animations and player likeness were awesome. I played a few games Real Madrid vs ac Milan and I also played against Barcelona. The commentary was great, and with the crowd sounds it felt like I was actually at a game. The crowd responded to misses, goals and fouls. Graphically the crowd was dynamic and always moving, cheering and waving flags. I was having off sides galore thanks to my stingy defense but I noticed som good new animations. As soon as the ball was out someone would throw in another ball while the other ball stayed in the corner. All the animations were real time, no cut scenes except players subbing in which made it look just like a broadcast. I'm used to playing fifa 14 on my vita and haven't had fifa for xbox since 2012 but this just felt so realistic with the weight and momentum of players making each player feel unique. When I was Ronaldo I could feel he was light and extremely nimble but as soon as I was a defender you could really feel the weight and strength in their tackles. The speed differential was very good, defenders weren't able to catch the really quick guys, in previous iterations I hated that defenders could always catch up to you but in this I def was blowing by slower defenders. I also got the chance to see a few injuries and they looked good, saw xavi limping after he went down hard while Martin Tyler was discussing his knock. I can't say much else, if you like soccer this is a most buy and if you don't like soccer give it a play through and you'll def be impressed with the attention to detail

    6. Dead rising 3. The controls were just like dead rising 2, except the player had some weight to him. I felt that I couldn't just keep jumping without penalty to stamina or overuse of the jump button. Visually the zombies were all very unique, men, women, children, cops and the elderly. Every zombie looked very different. One other thing I noticed was the immense number of zombies on the screen at once. I'd say double to triple the amount you see in dead risings of past. This however was the only game I noticed choppiness and some slowdowns. Of course these were demos I think they have been playing since e3 so I wasn't to concerned with that. I over heard one guy saying you could make iron mans chest beam if you found certain weapons and combined them. I had no such luck :'(
I started off with a sledgehammer and had my way with a few undead till I came across some cop zombies. From there I went guns blazing with the pistol and the shotgun. I noticed people were in cars running over zombies and the cars would slow down in huge traffic and when zombies would just jump and gang from the cars. Def a cool effect. Sadly I never got a chance to drive as my time was up and they were shutting down but I got enough viewing time to see others get really creative to killing the undead.

The games I didn't play were forza, killer instinct and battlefield 4. The last 2 had the largest lines and the ppl with the biggest smiles on their faces so I guess those games were legit. I viewed bf4 and it looked smooth but didn't get to see any crazy destruction of any buildings but ppl were taking out walls like it was no ones business.

Hope that helped anyone with questions about how awesome next gen is going to be. If you have any questions that I may know the answer I def will. I really wished they had 2k but I think I can hold out another 20 days.

Hmm...this is still in the rumor phase...but it is starting to seem like a "where there's smoke, there's fire" kind of things:

    http://doddscientifics.com/2013/10/...-issues-bouncing-about-as-we-approach-launch/
I've seen his posts before, and while I wouldn't put him as 100% reliable (especially since he's usually just repeating what he's told), he's been somewhat accurate in the past with this kind of stuff.

Some more rumors/talk, summarized by SwiftDeath from NeoGAF:
    http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=87786946&postcount=2018

I think some of this might be slightly exaggerated. There are always going to be problems at launch (and the PS4 will have its fair share as well, including no suspend/resume support among other issues). But some of the talk out there does seem a bit concerning to me.

Hmmm... the PS4 launch date was announced a couple weeks before the Xbox One launch date was announced, right? Could be MS was trying to get really close to Sony's launch date, and they're finding out they jumped the gun by a week or two.

Oh well though. I don't really care about buggy launches either way, since I'll be waiting at least a few months on both of them, if not more. I'm sure all the major issues will be sorted out by then.

PS2 is still the only system I've ever bought at launch...

PS4 is also having trouble at launch.... Wanna kno why ? :p.... Because they also had DRM in the plans for their console.... There will be a 1st day patch for it and one of the things that patch is going to remove is the DRM.... They swept it under the rug the moment Xbox One got murdered for it and made it seem like DRM was never part of the plans....

I think so, though I don't think that was that big of a deal.

What caught MS off-guard was the PS reveal early in the year. I think MS assumed they could release in early 2014 and still beat the PS4, but finding out that Sony was ahead of schedule (and also had better specs) put them in a bad spot. The DRM changes, among other things, haven't helped.

Fairly certain that's just some FUD/click-begging without anything to back it up (haven't really seen anyone of note "back" it). I believe the source for that (some guy with a Youtube channel) was saying some nonsense about CoD being 720p (due to networking issues...for some reason this affects visuals?), despite Sony confirming 1080p recently in Brazil (think he questioned the source, despite there being video evidence of the confirmation).

Despite all that, you can also download the patch in the background...which further puts the claim into question.

PS4 problems seem to involve some missing features (no resume/suspend), some weird bluetooth headset issue (haven't followed this closely, but it sound stupid), possible problems with capturing video via the device, and the usual kind of launch issues with the network and things like that. That seems more reasonable than this other stuff.

FYI, I think CBOAT did semi-confirm those rumors. He seemed to indicate that the issues could be fixed by launch or shortly after though. The one thing that would be tough to fix is the ESRAM being difficult to work with, but that would be expected I think.

Yeah, I doubt PS4 never had DRM plans. I really do..... The guy you are referring to is Rich from reviewtechusa..... The comments he made combined with the mysterious tweets from Adam Sessler and other big names in the industry just simply makes sense. Sometimes when there is smoke there is fire....

Believe what you want.... There will be a day 1 patch and once COD comes out we will know if its actually 1080 and not 720 as some say.... The truth will come out thou..

Sessler seemed to be talking about possibly not having consoles for launch, which would make it difficult to review games:
    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/gbxe_I90jS4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Certainly other tweets ruled out the DRM stuff (they suggested issues reviewers would have with doing their job, nothing that the consumer would ever have problems with). Unless you have some tweets that suggest otherwise.

Reviewtechusa seemed to be the only one really pushing the DRM story I believe.

The fact that he's saying games will be 720p solely because of network issues really puts his credibility (or his source's credibility) into question:
    http://www.dualshockers.com/2013/10...s-complete-bogus-heres-some-damning-evidence/
    More at the link.

Games might be 720p, 900p, etc., but because of general dev issues, not network issues. That just doesn't make sense.

The Day 1 patch taking out DRM is silly because, like I said earlier, you'll be able to download it in the background (meaning you'll be able to use the system without that patch). Not really a good idea if you want to keep that under wraps.

Maybe they did have some plans for DRM (actually, I guess I would assume they did), but this really seems silly. I'm skeptical of all these rumors, but if it doesn't even make technical sense, I'm not sure it is really worth considering. ESRAM causing issues makes sense. Sony preventing people from capturing video on retail PS4 units makes sense (or similar copyright issues involving monetization). This other stuff? Not so much sense. "But I was just reporting what I was told!" doesn't seem like a legitimate excuse to post BS.

On a side note, I believe some embargoes have expired for games like Assassin's Creed 4 and Battlefield 4, so there are some reviews and comparison screens/videos out there.
