If Asik would stop getting blocked at the rim, that would make me happy. He's been blocked at the rim like 3-4 times now. If that was Dwight, would have been a dunk. Asik has like no hops lol.

Honestly, he never really seemed happy starting last year either. I'm not saying that he wasn't, but I think he's the type of person that doesn't show emotion. He's just a blank stare kind of guy. I'm confident that he will find his role/importance in the team and do whatever it takes to contribute.

good thread ! I noticed asik defense was great! but did notice him unhappy, tired, and upset different plays.

I was all for keeping asik but the main concern is when is this guy going to be able to CATCH the ball & finish around the rim ???????????????

we want Lin to be our 6th man but every time lin drives and has to dump it off its a rsik of asik catching the ball or if he is going to get blocked at the rim as a 7'1 center. It would be good to have someone you can depend on and not go up soft around the rim and even throw a alley to.

If morey trades Asik for a guy that can play back up center without too much of a drop on defense & that can catch the ball, finish around the rim & catch lob passes I would say do it at this point.

Seriously true Play07, if he can't run the pick and roll, he is basically the Bulls version of Asik and that is a step back for him personally, I don't see him being excited about that, no matter how much we win.

I think he wants to play - who can blame him....

No, not worried. He'll find a role to play on the team. If not, DM will use him as an asset to make the team better. Either way, the ROCKETS will be better off.

    It ain't "show-friends", it's "show-business".

Why are you reading too deep into what's going on? The man just came off an injury so it will take some time for him to get going.

Another thing Asik started in his 1st two pre-season games, So what are you talking about. He hasn't lost his starting job....Too funny!!!

thanks for the reply, i mean I like asik and respect everything he has done for the rockets. But he has to learn how to finish around the rim when Howard is on the bench with the second unit. Imagine a athletic hungry big in there rolling to the basket with lin and beverley crashing the boards for dunk put backs etc.

This. He fumbled some great passes from Dwight and he knew it.

I still think he's better off the bench anchoring the 2nd unit. He'll still get 25+ minutes.

I completely agree that he is doing the dirty work and putting himself in the position to succeed; however, I hardly fault the other Rockets on the team not wanting to pass to him down low. When Asik was in similar situations last year, those gigantic stone hands of his fiddled and fumbled the ball long enough for the defender (or help defender) to knock the ball away/block him.

Love Asik, hate his "Yao-like clumsiness."

He is starting. He is playing and playing significantly considering:
He is coming back from injury

He is not a scorer (like somehow he's going to be a scorer w/howard wtf?

He is going to get minutes that is clear. And he is going to gets lots of minutes.

He is going to be important in having at least him or howard in at all times.

This negativity around here is ridiculous.
They had 26 rebounds against Dallas and in the Spurs game they dominated offensively and were paralyzing Spurs defensively. Not sure what the expectation would be if asik and howard were in the game? If you cant define your expectations then you are just blabbering. And dont talk about growing dmo and jones. That ship has sailed and will fit dmo and jones as needed (which will be garbage time usually)

Not worried about asik feelings too much since its no one fault when asik is blowing stone hands situations. Asik know this too. Again hes coming back from offseason and injury!

Sure asik might get *less* touches but he's not the feature of any offense no matter who. He has a chance to step up offensively and he will get that chance plenty. Im actually more worried about howards feelings through the year. Howard is tempramental dude for sure. But definitely not as negative as this board. We get a zillion points and dominate wcf 1st team with howard and asik and this is the reaction? don't get some of you. It like some of you cant stand something good. This is going to be a tough season listening to many of you negative nancys when we dont go 82-0. man.

It's not just getting starting minutes. Asik isn't getting any touches. Not only are all the offensive plays going to Dwight, but he also has to share the rebounds/offensive put backs. Basically anything he used to do is being done by Dwight.

It's not just about getting paid. They're "career" basketball players and they would want to play.

Asik has been a low key guy on and off the court.

The lack of his rah-rah attitude really isn't a recent trend, which isn't to say that he isn't unhappy about the D12 acquisition. But it's not necessarily a portent of things to come either.

Absolutely love how we basically have 2 starting lineups and the Asik + Howard lineup is awesome. Much better than that small ball crap.

Chuck Hayes, Greg Smith, Scola as your starting center...... Horrible

Even better can play small ball or TT.

I am pretty realistic usually but I am so high on this team right now its through the roof. We are going to be awesome. I honestly think 65+ wins

Not so much, Asik is a professional and knows that in order to get on to another team, he still has to show that he is legit starter at center capable of doing dirty work while Howard gets the focus.

course he'll be pissed. If he isn't angry, then he isn't a competitor. Anybody that plays some sports wants to play. He'll either be traded or leave at the end of his contract to get starting minutes.

Exactly, and even small ball can be played with a legit defender in the middle.

    Bev, Lin, Harden, (Parsons/Casspi/Garcia) + (Howard/Asik)

It's his game face. Dude doesn't go too high or too low. He's a consistent level-headed guy. The whole team can be in a fight and he would probably just stare without much emotion. The only time I ever saw him energized and excited on the court was that game in Chicago last year.
