I think there’s an ever-so slight difference between NFL defensive coordinators and Conference USA defensive coordinators; like solar system-slight. Teams don’t put all their scouting into the combine basket; he may have hurt his stock – but it likely meant he fell from a 5th, 6th, 7th round pick to undrafted. He was never highly thought of – and going undrafted tells only part of the story: he also generated zero interest as a rookie free agent and sat on our practice squad for an entire season untouched. 31 NFL teams have had *ample* opportunity to invest in Case Keenum and they’ve repeatedly passed on the opportunity. And I truly doubt, even after Sunday, any of them “regret it.” And his status as an undrafted free agent is relevant only in setting expectations, not to run him down. No one mentions Arian Foster being undrafted in terms of evaluating his current talent because he has established himself as one of the NFL’s best RBs. Same could be said for Tony Romo and Victor Cruz. Until Keenum overcomes the stigma, it’ll be used to keep everything in perspective. This is almost, word for the word, the exact sentiment expressed by fans of Baby Vince seven years ago. So please excuse many of us for not having the energy to endure another wildly biased. irrational discussion about some local kid we’re supposed to love unconditionally. There appears to be some promise and he had a very nice debut. But these ridiculous assertions of franchise disintegration at the hands of Case Keenum is so wildly overblown. Teams miss on players that go on to have nice careers elsewhere all the time, and I’ve never seen a franchise fold because of it. The talent pool, and access to it, is way too pervasive for one player to make or break a franchise.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap20...eenum-matt-schaub-to-be-evaluated-during-bye http://www.houstontexans.com/news/a...e-Keenum/b8f6b9aa-b01b-4464-b55e-5d7975981a8f
Most of us just want Schaub off the field. Keenum will do. If he continues to play well, or even improve, he should remain the starter. If he plays poorly, Yates can be given another chance, but Matt Schaub must remain on the sidelines. Nothing is accomplished by trotting him back out there. As far as Keenum's potential, I don't know, you don't know, no one knows what he's capable of, good or bad, so let's watch and find out. But regardless of how well Keenum plays, the Texans need to draft another QB. I don't want the Texans to ever go into another season without having a quality backup at that position.
Yep, I know it when a talent is special, and this is one of those rare occasions. It just so happens that Case Keenum went to U of Houston. Even if he went to college in A&M, I'd still be backing him because I think he has a chance to be special and an elite QB (I'm ex-Longhorn btw). The hometown kid argument is way overblown.
