Places that sell firewood. You can find people that sell firewood on craigslist. In Austin, I get it from a place call Harley's. They have been around for years.
Sorry I missed this. About 45 minutes and that was right after the appearance on DDD. The crowd really got heavy right at 11. I've only been on weekends since. You still planning on hitting 3rd base on the 22nd?
Not sure what my plan will be. If I end up watching it out, will let you know. Would be nice to have some back-up. Thanks for all the info guys!!
http://www.zagat.com/b/austin/schmidt-family-barbecue-to-open-oct.-28 Back in September, the family behind famous Lockhart barbecue meccas Kreuz Market and Smitty’s announced that they would be putting their feud behind them and jointly opening a new restaurant. Luckily for Austinites, it just happens to be in Bee Cave, and today they’ve announced that they’re opening the new locale, Schmidt Family Barbecue, on October 28. That’s this coming Monday, y’all. So dust off your cowboy boots, put on your best pair of (hopefully stretchy) jeans and get in line for some of the best smoked meat in the state.
BTW, **** Pecan Lodge. Stood in line for 75 mintues and no indication at all they were running low on BBQ until the people in front of us got the last of the brisket. Ribs were OK, but nothing to stand in line for more than 10 minutes for. And their mac and cheese was disgusting.
That sucks about your experience there. Their brisket really is great, and their pulled pork was surprisingly one of the best ive tasted. Ever since DDD, and various magazines choosing them as one of the best bbq joints in TX, their line is ridiculous.
BUMP THIS! I had a nice place off of 290 that went out of business, so for the last cord I purchased (2x 1/2 cord) I went to wood chop. SUCKS! The logs are huge and they will not catch on fire! I do not know what is wrong with them. Even if they were cut fresh that day I had some that were at least 9 months old and sucked. Could the drought we had have something to do with it? Anyway, I am looking for a new wood supply.
Did the Blacks, Smitty's, Kruenz trio today. Best brisket -- Smitty's Best Ribs -- Smitty's Best Sausage -- Blacks Best pork chop -- Smitty's Kruenz was too salty today. Porch chop was almost inedible. Photo of the overall favorite at the link http://instagram.com/p/hEr3oJK_mi/
Yeah, soon I'm gonna try to do a franklins, la BBQ, and Mueller's all in one day. Love living in central tx for the BBQ.
I'm a big fan of both Franklins and Muellers. I have no idea how you can do them both in the same day, though!
I saw that. It's going to be on Barton Springs Road, and will be run by a couple of the grandsons, who will be doing the smoking. Have no idea how good it'll be, but Green Mesquite can't be happy about it, being right up the street.
Went to cottonwood today for the Que for a cause w/ john mueller and ******* was it good. His brisket is some of the best I've ever had. $20/lb is completely absurd but I won't complain. And hot damn the jalapeño Boudain was great.
When though I think the difference between really good bbq and really good bbq is minimal, meaning that while Smitty's is probably really good BBQ, I doubt that they are doing something so revolutionary that another 100 places in texas aren't doing the same. The fact is that ALL BBQ has a pretty standard process and if you are doing it well, you are going to get good BBQ. Anyway, a place that I've been going to is Chappell Hill Bakery and Deli near Brenham TX, and they have some of the best brisket I've tasted. In Houston, the Hungry Farmer is great BBQ as well.
You must wreck your plumbing regularly. I am going to do a bit of a BBQ tour in the future down there as well. Have to try Mueller's and a couple of other places.
