According to NBA GM, McHale is not among the better coaches of the league.

I like McHale but I never thought he was one of the top 5 coached but for this team he's perfect

 

if you did, how many seconds in average does hakeem take possession of the ball offensively - this is from receiving the pass until the point where he shoots or passes the ball?

^ Not morons but their opinions are to be taken with a grain of salt, not more than the average fan. If you looked at their "opinions" last year, many of them were straight up wrong... The fact that some are willing to take kyrie irving over LBJ as a franchise player speaks volumes.

 

There are four types of coaches....

The first type are great X and O coaches... they make quick adjustments and understand the game very well... examples are Carlisle, Adelman, Brown.

This group of coaches earn respect from the players based on how well they know the game, not their personality or natural leadership.


The second type are leaders.... they handle players very well and keep everyone on the same page. They are typically alpha in behavior and can use fear and manipulation to get what they want..... examples are Jackson, McHale, Holzman, Jones.

This group is not especially good at the X and O part of the game. The "best" of this group are surrounded with excellent assistants that typically have a huge input in how the offense/defense is ran. This type of coach needs a hands off front office, one that is on the same page as the coaching staff.

The third type is very, very rare..... they are excellent at both in game adjustments, X and O AND are natural leaders..... Auerbach, Riley, Popvich and Kundla fit into this group.

There have been very, very few of these coaches through history. Typically they have success at multiple places and do not accept input from those outside their circle. They tend to be micro managers and surround themselves with smart people that buy into their philosophy. They also are not above cheating if need be.

The fourth and last type of coach, is one that is not a leader and does not know X and O's well. Examples include Vinny Del Negro, Carr, St. Jean, Lowe.

 

I think Rudy T was this type of coach. His intensity commanded a lot of respect.

 

Mchale is the perfect coach when a team is being rebuilt and want to acquire some draft picks. He is great at getting teams the 9th seed but nothing more

There are some teams that needs this type of service but I think for us at this time, we do not and need a Phil Jackson or Van Gundy type that is a proven winner

Mchale's a terrible coach.. He's made so many stupid plays and timeout's when or what not to pull players and put players in i've probably see Rockets lose about 5-6 games last season due to his incompetent coaching. All he has is talent but he can't maximize it for what it is if he doesn't have trust in his starters. Asik/Lin last season benching.

 

Common this is a coach that can't decide on his starting point guards, what more do you want? He may be a good role player but he's nowhere near a top 15 coach.
