I found two young dogs that were dumped at a park across from an animal shelter. This is a common dumping ground for dogs because of its location next to a shelter. They're free to a good home First is a female pit bull. Super super sweet but a little jumpy. http://twitter.com/00rocketgirl/status/391302516966567936 2nd is this black lab/shepherd mix male. He still a puppy. He was timid at first but really warmed up to me and is now a total sweetheart. He will make a GREAT dog for someone. I love him so much http://twitter.com/00rocketgirl/status/391316286866595840 I've been hanging out with these 2 dogs trying to find them a home or a rescue to take them but haven't had any luck. They're both showering me with kisses right now. I'm afraid they'll end up run over by a car or put to sleep at the shelter next door. I will transport them anywhere in Houston!! I just really need to find them a place to go before it gets dark. My apartment won't allow pit bulls and I'm already taking in 2 foster dogs tomorrow.
You should create an official thread for yourself. I know sometimes you tweet these and don't post them here, but it seems like someone usually comes through on Clutchfans, so maybe you'll continue to get hits on here with an ongoing thread. Good luck with these two!
I ended up taking the black one home. I just worried about leaving him overnight. He's still so young, and I figured I should be able to rehome him. He's doing wonderfully in my apartment. All he wants to do is lay by my side. He had a home once. His coat is in great condition. He doesn't pull on the leash when walked, and I'm still figuring out all of his other behaviors. If you want to meet him or do an overnight trial run with him for a few days or even foster him, that can definitely be arranged. I'll post more pics when I get on my laptop. I'll try to find out how old he is tomorrow. Right now he's 39 lbs and comes up to my knees. I'm trying to take 2 dogs from a shelter within the next few days. 3 dogs in my apartment would be madness (I've done it before and it is), so I'm trying to find this boy a home as soon as possible. Thats a great idea RV6
It turns out this boy is 1-3 years old. He sure looks like a puppy though! I've been calling him Jax. He is HOUSE TRAINED. Hasn't had any accidents. Suitable for house or apartment. Family or single person home. I think he'd be great with kids Walks better than any dog I've had on a leash. Does not pull! Weighs 39-40lbs and won't get any bigger. Super soft fur that doesn't seem to shed very much. Great in the car he was fine when I left him alone. I didn't have to crate him. He has no interest in chewing which is awesome. No destruction. Just a super lovable guy without an ounce of aggression. Does great in the car not neutered but acts like he is. lol no dominance qualities
Also, I'm trying to find homes for these 2 Terrier mix dogs. They look like they have their puppy teeth still, so probably older pups 6 month range? I can deliver them anywhere in Houston or as far as College Station. Their adoption fee will be $80, what it is to adopt from the shelter. I'm not trying to make a profit. Their time was up today. 72 hours just isn't a fair amount of time for a dog to find a home. I put adoption holds on them, so that gives them time until Monday. I just couldn't let them go. Still so young and haven't really lived life. It really hits you the hardest when you see a dog in a shelter that looks like your own. These 2 girls look like my dog Heidi.
I would adopt them, but my apartment bldg. doesn't allow dogs. You should put up a Craigslist ad, Facebook, or Twitter, and attach a YouTube video so more people can see how nice your dog is. Check online to see if there are any humane societies in town that have a 'No Kill' policy.
I keep tweeting, facebooking, and instagraming these dogs. Some interest in the black dog, but no one is really serious yet. I'm in the process of getting the 2 schnauzer mix girls into a rescue. They will come spayed and vaccinated from the shelter, so that's much easier. I'm hoping they can attend some adoption events by next weekend. The boy on the other hand, still needs some vetting. Animal rescue is very frustrating. Had I left him at the park, people would have stepped up to take him into a rescue and foster him. Someone came and took the pit mix girl into a rescue today with a foster. But because he is "safe" now with me, no one really wants to help me out. Lesson learned I suppose.
When I originally posted, I was sitting with the 2 dumped dogs at a park Friday, and guess what? They still need homes. I don't know what is misleading about that. I really need to get this guy I have staying with me into a home ASAP because I have a couple more coming in, which is why I posted pics of the schnauzer pups. And the other dog who was dumped, although picked up this morning, still needs a forever home. She only found a foster.
Not misleading at all. The OP found 2 dogs abandoned in a park. I am glad there are people like 00rocketgirl, who will take care of these dogs and look for a loving home for them. Not many people will do that, especially in today's economy.
You have a heart of gold. It sounds hollow, but if I could take them in I would. Both of mine are rescues.
If I didn't already have 3 dogs, and the city allowed more than 3 I would take the pup or the Pitt in a heartbeat.
This may not sound like a good idea, but may be worth a shot. These people lost their dog, perhaps they would consider fostering the one you have until they find their own. Considering the resemblance, maybe they'll even decide to keep him long term. http://houston.craigslist.org/laf/4120869353.html For a moment I thought it was the same dog, but noticed you found him without the red/orange collar.
Maybe try www.gofundme.com, to at least get some funds to help with the fostering/fees till you find homes.
You are awesome, rocketgirl. Wish more people were like you. Sadly, many folks want a dog because they're all cute and cuddly and then when responsibility kicks in and they can't handle it, they just give up and cut it loose like its no biggie.
