Last night after the game I went to play some ball with friends. I was running and out of nowhere my knee started to buckle. I dont think I tore anything (at least I hope not), because I didn't twist anything, nor did I fall down. Just out of nowhere my left knee area just doesn't feel right. My friends think its a pulled muscle? I still cant move that well. Anyone have any ideas? Ice or hot water bottle? Anything else?
So we weren't good enough to play with yesterday? I actually have something similar to what you are describing sometimes, it comes and goes. I think it may be a sprained ligament, I don't know how much muscle is actually in the knee, mostly ligaments right (MCL, ACL, etc)? Just rest it and maybe ice it. If it keeps hurting go to the doc, something I may be doing soon....
I was on my way yesterday to play with you guys. Stupid three lanes shut down on 45 got me stuck for an hour. Houston traffic is the ultimate Anti-Christ. Anyways, I dont think its the knee itself, but the area around it. But it could be the knee. If it wont get better by tomorrow I'll go to the doc I suppose. Right now I have some hot water under my knee. Dont know if its helping any. Sucks! I was looking forward to the bbq at Behad's house.
45 was crazy, lucky for me I am on the north side, so the trip to the park and heyp's was not bad. On the way home I took 45 south again into downtown and then over to Hardy Toll Road. Is it above or below your knee that hurts? Mine was killing me last week right below the knee when I put weight on it.
Its mostly below the knee, but also some above it. I've dealt with many sprained ankles, but never a pulled muscle. So I have no idea what the hell do do.
what kind of pain, is it a constant pain, or only when you climb stairs or walk for awhile, maybe even run. Does it go away, when you have warmed up? Also did you hit your knee recently. It could be tendonitis. Which you can take care of in about a week.
I have too many sports injuroes to count, and I can tell you this much; if it's in a seriously ht joint like the knee, and it was enough to buckle you, it might be more than a pulled muscle. Pulled muscles usually, though not always, occur in one of two areas; long, flat muscles which are overstretched/pulled away at connection points, or in smaller muscles used in an unused to manner...This sounds like neither. If it's still bothering you in a day or 2, go to a doctor. If you get severe pain before then, do the same. In the meanwhile, ibuprofen ( prob. 4qd), heat ( 20 mins, 4gd) and staying off it as much as possible for a day or three should do the trick if ti's just a pulled muscle, and gentle massages wouldn't go amiss.
Its not a constant pain. Right now I dont feel any pain because I'm just sitting. Can feel it when I try to walk. I mean its not to the point where I would call it "really really bad", but its pretty bad. I haven't hit it recently. I jog pretty much everyday and haven't felt anything like this before. Thanks for the tips MacBeth. I'll do all of those.
It sounds like Tendinitis, but I could be worng, I am not there. I would follow Macbeth's advice with the heat and IB, take two hundred mil after every meal, if it helps the pain but wont knock out the pain for awhile, try doubling it. It also depends on how big you are too, for a hoss like me I take 400. IF you do this for about a week it should go away. But the best thing is to get it checked out. IF you can go to a trainer before you go to a doctor, if you know one. Try a local highschool or college. It would really help to know someone that does this type of stuff, then you wont have to pay a doctor. And they might tell you what I just did. IF its more seriouse they can send you to the doctor, but from what you said it sounds like tendenitits to me.
How long does it take a rolled ankle to heal? About two months ago I was going down some stairs, missed the last one, and landed on the outside of my foot, rolling it pretty hard but not breaking anything. It doesn't hurt anymore when I walk or go up and down stairs, but sometimes it still stiffens up in the morning and it still hurts if I pivot hard on it or twist it funny. Do I need to go see a doctor?
Lets just say that I still have not recovered from my rolled ankles, often its better to break your ankle than sprain it. It takes a long time for ankles to heal, and when they do they are never the same before. A few things migth help though. Do the abc's with your sprained ankle. Try and write them out with you foot elevated. use your big toe as your pencil if you will. Also take a towel, grab both ends length wise and putt your foot in the middle, and push with your foot against the towl, while you apply pressure with with your hands. If it keeps it up, you should probably get it checked out.
R0ckets03, if the pain is associated with the knee, then chances are that a muscle pull is not the problem. You may have sprained a ligament or tendon in the knee. Just because you didnt twist does not mean that you didnt sprain something in the knee. It could very well still happen, specially if "buckling" occurred. I would also count out tendinitis. That usually occurs as a result of overuse of a tendon and not from your knee buckling and giving out on you. Just give it some rest. Dont put much pressure on it for about a week, then give it a go.
tendinitis? I recall getting hit in the knee and then that's when my knee started hurting. What is that exactly?
you have probably strained a muscle or ligament or tendon or a worse case maybe you pinched the cartilidge i would ice for a while R03, maybe take an anti inflammatory if you still can't walk tomorrow or it blows up bad then i would get it checked out by an appropriate health professional, getting me a Yao bobblehead was also help make it better
Basicly your tendons are in a protective covering, when your tendons are overused or they are hit, they will become inflamed. Tendinitis is the rubbing of the tendon with the protective covering, causing it to hurt. You want to reduce swelling to aleviate the rubbing, thats why IB profen and ice are good for it. It sucks getting old huh
When I took an athletic training class as an undergrad, we were told about ice vs heat. Essentially, what you do is ice it for like 10 or 15 minutes and then place heat on it for like 10 or 15 minutes. This was more for sprains than strains, but I think it wouldn't hurt to do this because it sounds like 03 might have something more than a strain. Oh, and arkoe was asking about a rolled ankle. I rolled mine pretty good after Christmas, and I was able to keep playing after sitting out a week. What I did was get epsom salts and an ace bandage to wrap around it. If you soak your ankle in epsom salts for a week or so, it will help tremendously.
Actually tendons are the interface between bone and muscle. If you ever eat chicken drumsticks, the tendons are the rubbery inediable white bits at the end. Similar are ligament which connect bone to bone, and cartledge which is basically padding. They take a long time to heal because while they are living tissue like muscles, they dont actually have any significant volume of blood flow to get "stuff" to the injury site. If by buckle you arent implying that it "buckled" left or right, I'm going to bet that you somehow brused the meniscus or some other tendons from the force of it "snapping" out of the locked position. Is the pain localised in the center just below and behind the kneecap? Also, here is a website with descriptions of common knee injuries. Unless the knee is somehow "loose...oo hard to let it heal for a couple of weeks.
