Feigen is right about one thing, we do need a personality like Karl's. Some guy that is tough on the slackers. (But not actually Karla himself)
Karla's attitude toward Steve might have improved over the years (since the "shut the F up" comment during a game against our [formerly?] motormouth guard), but I don't think he'd want to be here. Certainly Steve would s**t a brick at the idea of lacing em up with the Enforcer. Yes, we could really use Malone. But he'll go to Dallas or (ugh) The Fakers; maybe San Antonio. The one good thing is Utah is about to become an also-ran as far as the playoffs. They had a great thing going: family-man white guy Stockton and family-man conservative brother Malone, two of the best at their positions all-time, joined forces for an unbelievable duo. Folks, ain't hardly nobody wants to play in Utah, 'cept Andre Miller. Miller can pass to, um, Matt Harpring and, let's see, Osterfat. I have hated the Jazzholes and their dirty play and sucking up to the refs (basically, clotheslining a guy, then signing an autograph for the refs: "Hunh? Oh yeah, sure I'll take it a little easier on the opposing point guards" [Karl and ref laugh]) but I give them credit...which is maybe easier to do now that I know the Dynamic Duo is about to become history?
Tell the truth...how many of you long time Rockets fans hated Barkey before he came to Houston? I'm not sure how serious Feigen was, but with Malone's range and Yao's passing ability doubling Yao in the low post would be very, very difficult.
I was against these trades and many more........ The Rainbow Man, World be Free, Scotty Pippin, Charles Barkley, Glen Rice and now Carl Malone. We never got anywhere with any of them! The Rockets has a fasination in bringing has been, over the hill stars to the Rockets in hope of them regaining their former glory. Of course their origional teams were through with them and were glad to move them along. If we go after Free Agents we must select players that will fit our overall team plan, they should still have a decent number of years left in their playing life. Just because they were a big name is not good enough reason to change our team! Carl Malone would not even be able to play at his present reduced level without John Stockton.
You'd think after all these years, people would know how to spell his name... Seriously though, Karl Malone isn't going to automatically bring this team to life. That is the coach's job, plain and simple. If the coach can't motivate his players or get them to play as a team, then ultimately he is at fault. Watch Rick Barnes' teams - they never quit, always play hard, and trust one another.
Need, need, need, need, need. I'm sorry, but you do not need that many great players at soo many positions in the NBA. It certainly helps, but LA has only 2 decent players, San Antonio goes at it with Duncan and role palyers, as does Minnesota with Garnett. Only Sacramento has the enormous collection of really good, smart players at every position, and they haven't won squat yet. First, it was Francis and Mobley isn't enough. Now, Francis, Mobley, and Yao aren't enough. If the Rockets pick up Malone and limp into the playoffs next year (as they undoubtedly would - it's the sytem and the players, not the lack of enough of them), would it be Francis, Mobley, Yao, and Malone aren't enough?? First, change the system completely - whether or not this neccesitates a change of players is up to Francis and Mobley. Are they willing to change their games for the better? Given that I think Rudy has been trying to get them to do this for 3 years but they haven't means they won't change. Maybe a new voice will get them to change, or maybe they need to go. In either case, I think it's pretty clear that either Rudy & Co. have to go, or Mobley/Francis have to go, first and foremost. Pick your poision, if your not willing to go through another 4 years of rebuilding (with Yao, I don't think it would take that long, and even if it did, it still might be the better path to take - a pessimistic, but realistic? view)
ER.. rest easy, my friend...I'm not entirley serious. I do not really believe in quick fixes as such, but I do think that if we were going to go that way, and betray all we hold dear by bringing in the Mailman, we might as well go the whole hog and get Sotckton too, who probably cures what ails us at least as much as Malone.
A championship is somewhat out of KM's control. He can help a club, but there are no guarantees. What he wants that *is* in his control is the scoring title. Dallas has too many scorers. He wouldn't be an option at all with the Lakers. He is a fit here, and brings enough maturity to demand the rock when it is in the best interest of the team. I see him considering Houston. Not sure whether he would take that leap or not.
Okay...why wouldn't he want to come? You never know. Anything is possible. Controversy. He just wants to screw the Jazz owner. A big diss. Karl Malone would like to come to Houston because we have Yao Ming. He knows Yao is the future and he does not want to play with a goofhead like Greg Ostertag anymore. He wants a new challenge. Why the heck did Michael Jordan decide to play for the Wizards? Anyways...Malone will never join the Rockets cuz he makes 20 freakin million a year. We can't afford him. YOU NEVER KNOW.
Be prepared for him to drop kick one of the "three stooges" (Francis, Mobley, Norris) when they dribble out the shot clock or make a silly a** pass for a turnover. I actually think the Malone idea has merit. He would be good for a season or two. Then make him the coach, Rice as the asst. We are a .500 team in total disarray, how can it get worse?
Jonathon, baby -- do you know something? or is this silliness wrapped around no ideas from you, the Rox faithful Beat Writer? Who would the Rox send in a sign'and'trade Sloan and the Jazzed would take? Exception? Miller will still pay twice that for Karl, or Papa might in SA, or he could have Riles' 7 mil. Unless JF actually knows something (for once?) this is pure silliness. (If he does know something, then this means the present staff remains and -- what else?)
whoa!!! omg!!! that matrix reloaded trailer at the afl halftime game on nbc kicked buttocks big time. okay... continue on with karl malone now.
I hated him in a way before he came to Houston, but by the time he retired he'd become my favorite Rocket of all time. It was a very different kind of "hate" though. I hated the way he shot off his mouth and I loved it when we shut him up, but I always thought he was smart and funny and the best interview in the league. I "hated" him but I respected him. I have no respect at all for Karl Malone and, while I think he's an incredible player (even without all the dirty tricks), I think he's dumb and mean-spirited. I feel like puking whenever I hear an interview with him (or Stockton or Sloan) and I feel like throwing a brick at my television when I watch him play. I've been a Rockets fan all my life. If Malone comes to Houston I'll find a new team. Sorry. I just don't want to win that bad.
Its funny because I said this exact same damn thing about 2 months ago and I was flamed so hard for it wasn't even funny. Just thought I would remind yall.
The Spurs will have some cap space to play with this summer and will also have a vacancy on the front line. Duncan + Malone + ? + role players gives me a bad feeling.
If we really really hate the Jazz and their fans, this would be the perfect way to screw them over. Also, we really could use a guy like him. It would also give us 4 automatic wins over Utah.
