The rockets need a bad ass coach to put a lil discipline into these guys.......u think Bobby Knight is available???
Good post. Longer version of mine. I am backing you up. We need a coach with an actual system. ISOLATION crap don't work no more. And next season...it won't be any better if we continue to play with our cocky attitude and isolation crap. It won't be easier because Golden State, Memphis, Seattle, and New Orleans will all be in the playoff race too. You can even count the Clippers if they can get a good start with Dennis Johnson as their new coach. We don't have any Hakeem Olajuwons or Clyde Drexlers anymore. We have to play team basketball... Other teams' offenses are so simple and easy to execute. Why do we make our offense so difficult and ugly and force crap? It really needs to change. But I still don't think anybody on the Rockets has realized that yet.... And even if they do adjust the offense to a mixture of triangle offenses or the Spurs' offense or motion offense or whatever offense...it still won't be as good because we have a bunch of stars and no role players. They are all 1on1 guys. There is only one consistent guy who can catch and shoot. Which is sad. We have no shooters. I like how the 76ers' play the best. Francis is supposed to be a good player. He can get past anyone. He should drive and penetrate and score or pass it out...watch the Suns. Stephon Marbury "GETS IT". And at least try to get easy putbacks... SAD!!!! But I think ESPN's grade for our coach was pretty right. We could have done better. Next season...if there are no big roster changes or coaching changes...hopefully the Rockets can at least beat all the bad teams and play more consistently. That is if the players don't go out and party before games.
I guess you've never heard of Pat Riley, he's doing so great in Miami. But you bring up a good point, I see both of those guys have actually been replaced and they had more success than Rudy. That's for all you guys who thinks he deserves to stay here because of his nearly decade old rings.
i know it was a coaches report card, but i give francis and f. he is a crappy point guard and we will never go anywhere w/ him being our floor leader. as far as rudy t goes, my heart says keep him, but my head says its time for a change.
Top Candidates then: Jeff Van Gundy Del Harris COACH FROM SYRACUSE! Maybe even Kenny Smith... BUT NEVER LARRY SMITH. He was a forward who barely scored. All he did was rebound and block shots. The best coaches are the ones who were point guards because they know how to run offenses and understand more about basketball. Still...I think Rudy's gonna stay.
I agree with a lot of your post, but Steve Francis cannot run a fast paced run and gun offense. Steve is suited to the iso offense the best. Maybe it's Rudy's fault for not developing him into a passer and runner, but I'm just pointing that out. Cuttino also is suited to the iso half court set, seeing as he is not the best decision maker.

Francis respects him, he worked with a Big man when he played for the Rockets and He was a point guard....
Jeff VanGundy Man he would wreck shop with our team I have this feeling. Yes D+ was generous in my eyes too given how fast the wheels fell off and the fact that this team is still doing things 4 years later that I had hoped 4 years ago was because of their youth.
Jeff VanGundy would hate coaching this team. Reasons why VanGundy would not want to coach the Rockets: 1. VanGundy's head would even be more bald then it is, 2. The bags under VanGundy's eyes have actually swelled down to normal size. Who knows how big they would get coaching this team 3. VanGundy wants to actually coach a coachable team Having said this, I would love to see VanGundy as the coach cause I think this guy really knows his X's and O's and has proven he is a workaholic. He out coached Pat Riley and I personally think ruined Riley, his mentor, cause he kept on beating him in the playoffs
I guess I am just Old school and believe in a thing called Loyalty. Until Rudy decides to step down or Les starts buying in to all the negative comments that bleed from this forum, Rudy T will be the man that coached the ONLY pro sports Championship Team in Houston. How can you people lose site of this? Rudy is what keeps this team going. He is the Houston Rockets!!!!!! Do You think his knowledge is any less then half the alvin gentry coaches in the L . He obviously is in the top echelon of coaches at the Pro level, and people want to throw that away simply for change? Change to what? A confusing new system for a team of young inexperienced players to just confuse them more? Damn some people just are freakin stupid!
It's a business, man, get over it. Rudy T is nothing but a washed up has been, who's coaching skills have diminished over the years. He's had bouts with alcohol abuse, and drunk driving. Currently he's fighting cancer. The guy's been through alot, and he isn't taking this team in the right direction. Okay, say we don't fire Rudy. How about we announce his resignation, or better yet, a "RIF = reduction in force" as we say at work.
How do you know if Steve can't run it. Rudy is the one whose never changed his offense, how do you know he is trying to change it now.
For all you Larry Smith haters, Larry has lost one game to an opponenet who was considered better. The first Seattle loss. Other than that, the Rockets have beaten Philadelphia, a team with a better record, and the only loss to a team with a worse record was the Seattle loss. That's better than losing to Cleveland and Chicago.
You have no point here. Phyllis resigned, by the way, and I think Riley did too. If you're going to say people are 'living in the past', then you can't bring up the past to bash Rudy. It's quite simple.
Is this a joke? So had Larry Smith been coaching, the Rockets would have beaten those teams? Larry Smith couldn't beat San Antonio, Sacramento, or the Lakers, and Rudy could. There, I can play that stupid game too.
