We were missing first, second, and third attempts of tackles... Whats going on? There were so many plays that should have stopped at the line of scrimmage or in 2 yards but they went on to gain 10+ yds because of many missed tackles by many different players.
Because we suck, bro, I'd rather one of these guys start over Ed Reed. The sign will read, "don't pass here" and it'll be just as effective at a fraction of the cost.
Because we signed this guy because he's a leader and let go of a sure, solid tackler and good all around safety (GQ). Oh and Glover only got $1.2 mil more in guaranteed money than Reed. Ok, this isn't the only reason but it's a big part of it. Reed might be up there with Scottie Pippen to me after it's all said and done. Between the offsides penalty on 3rd and 5 and biting on the Alex Smith "fake" to nobody, he sold himself to me in the wrong way.
Bad angles and position. They need to do a better job of containing. Perhaps it would help if they had better awareness of where their teammates are. Sometimes it's better to hang back and wait to strike, instead of diving for the hit immediately. You've got two guys missing because they bit on the same fake. That's the only way one runner takes out two tacklers. They're also trying to use the out of bounds line as another defender, which is fine, but just like in basketball, you still need to make sure you close out that space between you and the line. You can't assume they're going to ignore it because it's a smaller gap. In basketball, they tell you to step on the line, so a dribbler can't squeak by. In football, there's too much field for that, so they need to open up their stance more to be ready to go in either direction. Instead, they open up too much to the inside and are left reaching when the runner fakes inside and goes outside.
If I hear the world "over pursued" on a Texans broadcast again I think I'm going to shoot myself. It's our biggest tackling problem.
I wish they would simply go for a good tackle versus trying to strip the ball out of the runners hands for five yards. Hit the target hard and good things will happen.
It's pretty ironic that Kareem Jackson is the only member of the secondary capable of tackling, considering the rampant criticism only 2 years ago.
Feel better others saw what I saw about Ed Reed yesterday. There was a particularly "tender" tackle I saw him do that had me yelling at the TV. I've been giving him the benefit of the doubt til then, cuz I thought he needed more time to regain his aggressive mentality.
