And every single simplification would be picked apart endlessly.

That certainly is a NP hard calculation and would require every computer on Earth an infinite time to complete since there is an infinite number of injury scenarios to calculate.

In order to even contemplate a move like that you have to know what number of shots are available at the PF position. Just the question I attempted to answer. With the number of shots that must be allocated to Lin, Harden etc. how many shots are available to the PF?

The best case scenario is adding Kevin Love. Love gets rebounds, but every other Rockets starter is a good to great rebounder. How many rebounds is Love going to pull down? Certainly well shy of his historical averages.

On offense the Rockets have 1.73 shots per minute. That is all because pace can only go so high. How many of those shots are you willing to take away from Parsons, Howard, Harden and Lin to allocate to Kevin Love? As they say there is only one ball. Is Love more efficient in scoring than the Rockets starters?

I don't think we need more offense on the starting lineup; I'd be looking for a defense upgrade with non-negative offensive value.

I totally agree. I just have no idea how good the defense is at the PF position this season. Hopefully preseason will shed light on the subject.

defence is key from the position, but we need someone who can atleastb trick the opp defence into thinking he is a threat from deep to help with floor spacing, or else we should just be starting omer a the 5 dwight at the 4 if its just defence your after

Jones defense was pretty solid, needs to hold position a little better (got close a cpl times just by being pushed down), but much of West's scoring was those little 10-15 foot turnarounds, and if he's hitting those, there's not a lot any one can do.

I like the impact Jones' long arms have though, can lead to transition points.

With the flashes of brilliance shown by Jones and Dmo, combined with the possibility of Parsons sliding to the 4 (Garcia/Casspi filling in as the 3).

    I no longer want Anderson.

    Lin 30 / Beverly 18
    Harden 36 / Lin 4 / Garcia 8
    Parsons 36 / Casppi 12
    Dmo or Jones 36 / Asik 12
    Howard 36 / Asik 12

Jones got toasted consistently by West. Not a difference maker there.

Jones has some defensive ability, but his defense is just as flawed as DMo's, just in different areas. If you could combine the two players, you'd have the best young PF in the NBA IMO. DMo doesn't have Jones' lateral quickness or natural shot blocking ability, Jones doesn't have DMo's length or offensive ability.

really? 3 field goals, for 6 points in 24 minutes is consistently?

It's not particularly glamorous, but Jones did a good job actually preventing West getting the ball at all (as many turnovers as baskets).

While I'm not going to say it's all Jones, he seems to be able to exist within the defensive framework they've set up within the starter unit, getting boards (which helps because parsons isn't a particularly good rebounder and means Dwight isn't all alone) whilst also creating transition points with his blocks and steals. D-mo on the other hand is off with the faeries defensively and causes his team mates to be in perpetual cover for breakdown mode.

Dmo is much more polished offensively sure, but a significantly weaker defender is better suited to 2nd or 3rd option with the bench than 5th option with the starters.

Look at both games dude. West beat him over and over. Jones can't defend him.

You guys that are so high on Jones...I understand he looks good in the exterior. Kid has a great body, length, mass, etc. But that doesn't make a great basketball player. A blocked shot here and there doesn't make a great basketball player. The ability to handle the rock and bring it up after rebounding it doesn't make a great basketball player.

Now I like all those abilities. But we should be realistic about what we are seeing out there. These guys (Jones, DMo, Casspi) are all hustling, playing hard, etc. It's training camp. They're trying to win a spot either in the starting lineup or at the very least in the rotation. DMo has looked great coming in behind Howard and playing the pivot with his array of moves in the post, etc. Jones has looked great scrapping up and down the floor, packing it in the paint, etc. Casspi has looked great firing the open 3's and hustling back on D.

    But be objective.

When the regular season starts and Howard and Asik are getting all the minutes at the 5, where does that leave DMo??? That's right..playing the 4...spacing the floor...with a 30% 3-point shot. Or else crowding the paint next to Asik and Howard.

When the regular season starts where does that leave TJones?? Defending against a bunch of superior offensive players at the 4? How is TJones gonna stop KLove, LaMarcus, ZBo, Davis, Faried, Dirk, Bosh, Millsap, West, Melo, Pau, Blake, etc.? And then coming down and clogging up the paint with dribble drives?? or shooting the 3-ball at a 30% clip????

If we need D at the 4....we'll play Asik. If we need shooting at the 4...we'll play Cass3 and Parsons. If Dwight gets in foul trouble, we're playing Asik at the 5.

Let's be realistic. Unless TJones or DMo brings a 40% 3-ball to the circus they're gonna get scrap minutes.

if u force player to defend u at 3pts, its enough even if player dont shoot. In case of dmo hes much superior passer than all other options at 4. And u cant leave Dmo open or he will hit 3pts at high %. Also remember that no other rockets player aside from Dwight have real postup game. So thats were Dmo fits as well. Dmo can postup in the pain if hes double teamed pass it out (remember Dmo is great passer) to open/cutting player.

Dmo - quick feet, over 7 feet tall = best defensive potential out of all of them.

Sorry.....DMo will not hit open 3 point shots at a high %. He has proven he won't. Until he proves he will you should quit assuming he will.

short arms (matters as much as height, probably more actually since your top end is the same, but it lets you wrap around the side or reach and disrupt, he and jones have the same standing reach), poor fundamentals (isn't happening soon)

Neither of them seem to have much in the way of good verticals in game situations either, so there's no iblocka in either of them.

My god I hate these types of comments. This isn't Eurpoe the power forward position does NOT require hitting threes! Defense and rebounding please! Good if he can't hit the three then he might be the next Malone, thorpe, Gasol, Griffin, Mchale....those guys are not know for threes, they are know for rebounding and scoring in the paint. Dirk is a freak of nature. Ryan Anderson can't defend or rebound and will always be on a losing team because he has a period once a month like my wife.

IF you want defense and rebounding THEN Asik on his worst day will do a whole lot better in that role than DMo on his best day ever could possibly do. Hate on.

    ^ closet Chuck Hayes fan

I do agree with the statement though. Right now you have Garcia, Cassipi, Parsons, and DMo (too hard to spell full name out). Camby is injured and Howard is coming off an injury. The most logical thing is for the Rockets to keep Asik or trade him for a player that at minimum has functional inside presence and rebounding ability (LMA for instance)... not acquire another undersized, ranged PF.

So far Casspi looks pretty good at long range.

Maybe but I dont see portland doing that deal unless they get one of our other chips like parsons. I dont think asik alone plus fillers or asik and bev will get it done..

and I dont think portland would even want lin ..so I think it comes down to if they will accept asik and bev plus fillers or would you even accept asik parsons bev and fillers for LA?

Even though they are the filler, I just dont see guys like garcia or casspi being any part of any deciding factors although they are good 'fillers' for the list too..

I think parsons would be the sticking point for Portland and I dont see morey bucking on that. I dont think he should either since I like what parsons brings even if it means not having aldrige. verdict - we have to look elsewhere besides portland for now. We give them a standing offer of asik and beverly plus whatever fillers from a list of brooks, casspi, garcia, dmo etc whatever else to make salaries work. They wont take it and we move on.
