    China trip on

Center Yao Ming said the SARS scare in China has not changed his travel plans. He plans to return to China about 10 days after the Rockets finish their season to train for China's appearance in the Asian Olympic qualifying tournament in May.

"I'm worried about it, but I'm still going to go back the way I planned," Yao said. "But I'm excited to go back.

"I call my friends at home and check up. It's a frightening thing. I hope it passes quickly, and they take care of themselves."

10 days rest and he'll start to train again? bad news!!!

Ugh, Why they always start training three months in advance before the tournament?

The tournament begins in August and you start training in May? Remeber last time they did this, they lost Asian title, the player were just too tired.

    This is really BS.

I wonder how much Yao's growth will be stunted by spending the majority of the summer doing the same old training exercises.

My question is, is Yao going to get a few months of rest?

I mean, the only way he will truly be great is if he gets the same amount of time to recharge his batteries as every other NBA player gets.

Hi, guys, what's wrong if a guy go back his homeland to play for his national team?
Is Yao only born for NBA but not his country?
He belongs to China first, then Rocket. He is our "panda"...

BTW, do you guys enjoy watching U.S team defeated by other countries in the world cup couple of months ago?

But I agree that the training level in china national team might not as good as summer camp in houston and I understand you think this only as a Rocket fan. However, a more reality solution might be that Rocket have a center coach go with him together.

    :D :D:rolleyes: ;)

In a few years, Yao will pull a Wang ZeeZee and realize that AMERICA is the place to be...

    land of Toyota Sequoias
    land of illegal weed
    land of cable TV
and land of 'Taste of Texas'

It's only a matter of time before Yao gets nostalgic to be back in America.

Ok, so how about Wang ZhiZhi now after he denied to go back for the national team?

Do you want Yao become Wang NO.2?

If no all chinese fans behind Yao, will stern and media give him so much attention and patient? Do you still think he will get same "eyes" from "nike...visa..." market guys?

Yes, he might have a good life in that "small town" houston if he chose to stay at Rocket forever, but then he will never become a world basketball star and "Jordan 2" for media...

What the hell does Yao have to "train" for anything for? What do they call an entire NBA season? If one could grade it, I wonder how much better Yao is after a year in the NBA? Will he get back to China and absolutely dominate (more than before) with his new found knowledge of the game and his experience playing against the world's best players? People of China are going to be so impressed with him at the Asian Olympics, that they're not going to want to let him come back.

What if the Chinese gov't. doesn't let him come back? What kind of legal action could the Rox and the league take against that possibilty?

I'm just wondering if Yao prefers the Chinese guards or Steve and Cuttino?

when is he ever gonna rest and take time off?
i think he would have been so much more consistent this year if he had skipped the world championships and asian games.

It's proud for a men to do something for his country, I don't care if Yao get SARS when he go back to China, but no matter what, if China needs Yao, Yao will go back, and he's willing to do it. That's a Real Men.
If you guys still don't understand it, or maybe you don't know what the Chinese history is all about, then you should read some amazing story about the history of China, read some story about what Confucius has to say.
For over thousand years, Confucius has the biggest influence on China and Asia.

Guys guys, the real reason he wants to go back is to be with his girl-friend.

She was supposed to be here in May to play Comets but the trip is canceled.

well, I bet Yao want to back to China himself as well, remember my first yr in US, I want to go back so bad. I missed everything there, esepecially the food. I am sure Yao does it too. it sucks that he has to train with national team but I guess Yao will be able to adjust to it well

I agree. The Chinese government has him trained, but in a couple of more years, the leash will be broken.

    Freedom is addictive like that.

oh. better get his mask on!

i've got a feeling that the national coach will feel sorry for him and let him rest a bit. i think his performance on the NBA stage is as important to Chinese people as that of China's own national team, and the coaches and chinese journalists certainly must know this.

who's the coach there now? still the lame-o from last year?

No, Wang Fei was sacked me think. I read that they change back to the old coach who coached the 2000 Olympic team.
