i think howard would benefit more from lin on offense than bev but bev would play as he would as he would coming off the bench. bev is a better fit with harden than lin is with harden.the bench would definitely be better offensively when lin runs it than bev does. bev starting would improve the defense early but he might pick up more fouls due to his more aggressive defense. but either way rockets would have more options to play with.
Exactly! Rockets aren't done dealing yet and it is good to let other teams know that Lin's on the block. Time to go get a star PF.
The atrocity in this thread is too much. Start using your brain. Lin is fine and he is perfect with this team. He is not going anywhere. Just because he didn't start doesn't mean he will get traded
This summarises it quite well. But I think with the return of Asik to the second unit plus Garcia, Bev can orchestrate the 2nd unit very well. Lin will be the eventual starter lol, relax everybody. But today put a good case for Lin to also play off the bench! It made sense on paper that he would be a good 6th man, but he will remain a starter till we get a ring. (If he is still on the team).
some birds weren't meant to be caged. Lin in the manu role allows him to be the free bird everybody on the team loves. The howard post ups are the reason I like lin in that manu role, because howard can create shots for others. I had forgotten how great of a passer dwight can be and how important a big man that can recognize the open man is to an offense. Officially howard had 3 assists but 4 more plays ended up in baskets from an extra pass that originated from howard. the beard will iso the iso but we're used to it by now. and it's only terrible if he misses or doesn't get the call or turns it over.
Bev and Lin were great in their respective roles this game! This "alternating PG/PF" is a smart move to tackle during the preseason. Competition is good for the individuals and team. Also, might have just been me, but there were times when McHale was just straight-up just experimenting rotations in the 2nd unit, I mean it looked ugly. Lastly, one concern last season (at least for me) was not having an adequate backup for Harden, well, if Lin comes off the bench, he solves that problem for McHale & the Rockets.
Howard is not efficient at post ups. Harden's ISO is what stops the ball movement. We are good at our run and gun offense. Half court offense will slow us down. Not saying we can't continue doing that, just there will be less of that. Our offense will hurt a little, but defense should be better.
Yes, Lin on the bench at $8mill is okay if he's still playing starter minutes. Any less of a role and I think you flip him.
As composed now, the Rockets could play in shifts if they wanted to. That second unit alone might make the playoffs in the East.
I think this might be the best way for LOFs and LOHs to find truce'. For LOFs and LOHs to acknowledge and agree that Lin has great value on the Rockets as the primary playmaker playing his style off the bench, is worthy of his contract, is the better player compared to Beverley, and makes the players around him all look better (like he did on the Knicks team). So basically, no more LOFs going Lin needs to get his 35 minutes per game, or needs to have the ball in his hand more often (he'll get around 30 minutes off the bench, and he'll be defacto playmaker off the bench), and no more idiotic LOHs saying Lin should be traded for Patrick Patterson, Jimmer or Toney Douglas or that Lin is just a DLeague scrub (true, happened as recently as two weeks ago, even after Lin's last three months of the 2012-13 season). Having said that, personally, I think Dwight really needs Lin to get him his easy looks at the rim, and to get him enough touches in the game. Help keep Dwight from getting frustrated, like he kind of did in the third quarter.
In a 6 th man role, Lin will get a better chance to get 20/10 assume he still plays around 30ish mins and finishes close games for the up coming season. I can see in some games if Beverly struggles offensively, Lin will come in early. Still chances of Lin coming off the bench for the start of season is very low, even if he does, Lin can still be the men and finish off close games with Harden at end of close games.
Is that assuming the third unit comes in as back-up to the second unit? If so, nope. Canaan, Brooks, Brewer, Covington/Greg Smith, Smith/Camby (or something like that) isn't going to cut it.
