If Francis were to move to SG, who would you like to see as his PG?

    sam I am:

Houston trades: SG Cuttino Mobley (17.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.8 apg in 41.8 minutes)
Houston receives: PG Sam Cassell (19.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.8 apg in 34.5 minutes)
Change in team outlook: +2.0 ppg, +0.3 rpg, and +3.0 apg.

Milwaukee trades: PG Sam Cassell (19.6 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 5.8 apg in 34.5 minutes)
Milwaukee receives: SG Cuttino Mobley (17.6 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 2.8 apg in 70 games)
Change in team outlook: -2.0 ppg, -0.3 rpg, and -3.0 apg.

    TRADE ACCEPTED

Due to Houston and Milwaukee being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Milwaukee had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Mobely at PG and Francis at SG. Hopefully next year's offense will feature more movement (we've been hoping that for how long now?) and the PG/SG distinction on the offensive side will blur considerably.

Barring that, I'm with the Tony Parker camp. I'd take Andre Miller, too.

Alvin Williams. Tall, good defender, and a good assist to turnover ratio for his career. He'd be the perfect type of role player to replace Mobley in the backcourt, his contract is also about equal of that to Mobley.

    The related question is :

Would Steve be better off with a true point like Andre Miller or a combo PG a la Chauncey Billups/Sam Cassell?

Or would Steve be better off with a combo SG, a versatile SG with strong passing abilities like a Brent Barry or Iverson, as opposed to a true SG like Mobley, Ray Allen, or Allen Houston?

I guess it all depends on the player because in some cases I think some combo PGs would work better, and in other cases a combo SG would be better.

In general, I think a combo PG guard would work better because Steve already has solid ball distribution skills and his passing skills at the SG position would be better than almost every other SG in the league. Sort of like the GP/Cassell experiment the Bucks have going on right now.

And I'm not talking about Kobe or Vince or T-Mac because having a top tier SG or any SG better than Mobley would obviously be better than what we have now.

No argument on the first part. I am on record that part of the Rox problem is the redundant skill set of SF & CM. But...

    I'm not sure Penny is worth $43.8m for 3 more seasons when he is currently a 10.6 / 4.6 / 4.1 player.

I really like Jaric, but I'm not confident of his D.

My answer is, I don't think that is the case/will be the case at all.

Look at the game Cuttino Mobley sat out recently. Francis slid to the 2 guard and Moochie started. I thought that Francis' role in the offense was very different- he was not dominating the ball, and still scored 20+ with relative ease. The problem is, Moochie sucks so much that he doesn't deserve to play at all if (and only played legit time because we needed some way to fill Cat's 40 mins.), and there aren't any other players on the team who can initiate the offense from the perimeter, so Francis does it by default.

I don't necessarily think moving Francis to the 2 will be our answer, however I think we need another perimeter playmaker, and I don't think Mobley and Francis can co-exist on a team with Yao Ming (or any team, really). I would love to pair Francis with a Hardaway, Brent Barry, or Jaric type. But those odds are slim due to contract, age, and unavailability.

Personally, I would've loved to have seen Francis playing with a certain #33, as I'd think that's what we actually need now- without the quitting, the whining, and the overall suckiness. Right now, the guy I want is Odom, and I'd give up Mobley in a S/T for him without a thought. He allows you to not be forced into defensive mismatches, and gives you the perimeter creator for others, and then slide a money shooter into the 2 guard slot, like a Piatkowski.

Barring a Phoenix meltdown, I suspect we'll make some changes, my hunch would be Eddie/Cuttino on the chop block, as well as the assistant coaching staff.

Of course, we can always hold out hope that ping pong balls go magical, and we win the lottery, and then package Cuttino/Eddie/Nachbar/CD's first born son for any late lotto pick to convey to Memphis, and get to keep Lebron for ourselves.

    Lamar Odom - point forward.

Pair Francis (still at 1 spot, but playing his strengths) with a shooter (Micheal Redd) and it's lights out, bad breath. Mix in a thug pf (PJ Brown), fit it all in the new jerseys, and move over, Western Powers. Jam Yao, Redd shoots over you; PJ busts your nuts. D up on the perimeter, ball zips inside. Zone, and Stevie and Odom carve you up. No lazy cross court heaves with the clock ticking down. Zip, zip, zip jam.

I will continue to live in this fantasy world - You can't make me come back to the horrible iso pjs!

I heard Andre Turner is playing somewhere in Turkey and can be had as our starting PG for the right price ;)

Actually, I think I've a pretty good idea of how Penny is playing. Your description is fine. Derek is doing more Penny-type playing under MoC as his year has progressed.

Spree has played the point, and can do it in tandem with a Stevie.

Bobby Jax is the best non-starting guard in the world, and does not play ala Cat.

BBarry and Jaric are not going to be on the market. They're out.

He was the starting the pg in the All star game. In the West no less. What more do you guys want. Seriously. The team has much bigger problems than Steve playing the point.

humm...Fans voted Steve as "Starting Point Guard". It wasn't about who was the better point guard but who got more fan votes. Not a very good argument
