If Francis were to move to SG, who would you like to see as his PG?

Let's face it, Marbury, Payton, Kidd, or any of the established front line PGs are not coming to Houston...

Hypothetically, salary cap and all that stuff aside...

Andre Miller? I'd be ok with him.
Arenas? Why would Steve Francis want to play with himself?
    Boykins?
    Nick?
    Eisley? Crawford? JDub? Speedy?

Is Steve + Any of these guys better than Steve + Mobley?

Not sure what his contract situation is, and the Kings would never trade him unless he forced a trade, but the guy we could probably afford who I'd most like to see here is:

    Bobby Jackson.

This guy is an awesome basketball player. Tough, shut down defender, intense, good range, good jump shooter, attacks the basket, good FT shooter. Only possible deficiency is that he's only 6'2", but that's tall enough in my book.

Sacramento signs him away from Minnesota and we re-sign "the mooch" to a long term deal? Dawson and Rudy have made some good personnel moves over the last few years, but as observers of talent in the case of Moochie, they really were off. He doesn't have the talent to be a front line backup PG.

    Marko Jaric,

We need a taller PG to compliment Steve.

If and that's a big IF San Antone lands Jason Kidd hopefully we would lucky to aquire Tony Parker.

Sheet, I'll settle for Nick Van Excel.

    Someone like Penny.

I noted that Penny had 10 asts (a triple double) today. Marbury is also capable of dishing out 10+ asts on any given night.

When did Mobley ever have 10 assists?

I agree a 'Penny type' who can play the 1 or 2. My thought is that Derek Anderson and/or Doug Christie could find their way into the backcourt.

If JVG is coach? I would look for Spreewell.

In a thread a few days ago I brought up Jamal Crawford. He is 6'5", athletic and has a lot of upside. He is available now that Krumbs Krause is gone and the Bulls will probably be looking to move him to give Jay Williams more time.

Most people in the thread seemed to believe that giving up Mobley for Crawford would be too much on OUR end!?

I agree that someone taller would be good. I like Jaric as an individual player, but maybe not on the Rockets, not yet at least... at this point he's too erratic and turns the ball over a lot. But he's savvy and plays with style. Maybe the Rockets should take a flyer on him. No doubt he can play. It worked out for Sacramento and Bobby Jackson. But if Andre Miller leaves (which he probably will), then Jaric or Dooling takes over at the point. Oh well.

I don't think you know how Penny played now.

Penny has really turned into a ballhandling role player. He distributed the ball well and allowed Marbury to play more off the ball and shoot the ball more.

I don't think Anderson, Christie, Sprewell and Crawford are really "Penny type", they are all shoot 1st shooting guards more than passer types as Penny's now.

And Bobby Jackson is just another Cat Mobley. Tony Parker is not tall enough with Francis on the same backcourt.

Brent Barry or Marko Jaric would be ideal. But I have no clue how to get either of them.

Tony Parker...we need a true distributor that can cause havoc and create shots to make his team better...

    Jason Kidd

Realisticly I say we are looking at Steve Blake out of Maryland. He should be there for the 2nd round. I dont think Blake has the talent but he is defintely better than mooch. After he gains experience maybe eventually he will be able to start. Honestly I think Francis will be the starting point next year.

I think Jamal Crawford is awesome too. But *if* MJ becomes GM of the Bulls, I think he'd be more inclined to keep Crawford and dump Jay Williams. A couple summers ago he tried to trade for Crawford because he loved the way he played during their summer pickup games, but Krause wouldn't bite.

Good article about former Duke players in ESPN the magazine a few weeks ago. One thing it said was that all that rah rah stuff that they do at Duke doesn't fly in the NBA. MJ definitely isn't a rah rah kind of guy. He's a "you do it right or I'll try to get into your head and make you feel like a peon" kind of guy. Will be very interesting if he becomes the GM.

I'd pass on Bobby Jackson. A great player, but one who has the same score first mentality as Steve, and who benefits from the Kings system.

The problem is, is there anybody out there that we could possibly get. Players I'd throw out names to see what we can get in return = Mobley, 1 of the 2 PF's (either or, don't care), Moochie, Rice, and, if necessary, Cato (who I'd like to keep and see at the PF spot much more often next year). What could any combination of those players get? Jason Kidd? Eric Snow? Alvin Williams? Brent Barry? Andre Miller?

I'd settle for a 40 year old Mark Jackson at this point.

    Lebron James

not that it is feasible (AT ALL!), but I'm answering the question honestly.

I am going to continue pose the question -

What difference (if any) does changing Steve Francis's title from PG to SG make if he is still dominating the ball and initiating all of the offense via his dribbling? IMO, there is no difference.

No difference. But we do need another guard in the backcourt to complement him better than Mobley.

Francis and Marbury are the same kind. They are S1P2, drive and kick well and don't really handle the ball, setup the offense/distribute the ball well (although I think Marbury still does better than Francis in this area, see his assists total). But Marbury has Penny's different skills (ballhandling, distribution) to complement him while Francis has Mobley who has the same kind of skill set as him.

You move SF to point, so he won't be the guy bringing the ball up court.
