CHOOOOOO CHOOOOO get onboard the Train to TANKCITY 2001 ------------------ "It's incredible to see how he [Mobley] can beat his guy one-on-one every time. That is a tremendous talent. The combination of Steve and Cuttino, I think, is wonderful in the backcourt." --the Dream
Man, that was just about the
WORST
Rox game I've ever seen. Bad luck + bad play + bad ball movement + bad refs = Bad loss. Hey, MoTay did grab 7 boards in 28 minutes... Not too bad. ------------------ da ability to focus attention on important things is a defining characteristic of intelligence - alaskanSnowman
Before some of you people start bashing the rockets and making insane lottery bound predictions because the Rockets lost to the mediocre Celtics, consider this: All in all, I would say it was definitely a tough loss (a bad one at that!), but I believe you can attribute the loss to the fact that the Rockets were in the second game of a back-to-back road swing, the first of which was a tough victory against the Pacers. I believe, thus, that the Rocket's had no gas left in the tank. So, before you start claiming what a huge dissapoint it is losing to the crappy Celtics, just consider that the Celtics jumped all over the poor Rocks from the get-go, and the Rockets simply hadnt the energy to counter. It wasnt a huge letdown, it was just a tough loss that wasnt entirely unexpected. (Remember peeps, the Celtics did have a day of rest, and the Rockets didnt) It certaintly isnt an excuse for the lack of play, but please dont get all balistic over it. ------------------
The way I see it is There was no excuse for such a sucky performance, regardless if it was a back to back that right there is supposed to be one of the advantages of being a young team but on the same token the dissadvantage of being a young team is inconsistency and tonight was a perfect example of such. ------------------ Mind is the fore-runner of conditions. This reminds me of my basketball game last Tuesday were we played CyFair High. We were down 14-40 in the 4th quarter and made a late spurt when I came into the game to finish it off 32-54. CyFair wasn't making their shots but they had 3 chances almost everytime. When I came in, I told our team to cut the crap and play good D. We only allowed 2 shots in 5 minutes and went on a 14-2 scoring run. Then of course, Coach pulled me and put in a guy who didn't have much playing time that game and we we stopped scoring and let them go back to what they were doing. Tonight I saw Antoine Walker go up against 3 rox under the basket and miss and then rebound consecutively twice and put it in. WITH 3 GUYS ON HIM! C'MON!!! And battie had an awesome night. How many blocks did he have, like 5?? ------------------ Francis out top, 9 seconds on the clock, he gives a no look pass to Cuttino Mobley, 4 seconds left, Mobley passes to an open Langhi in the corner with 1 second left! Langhi at the buzzer.......YES!!! How Sweet It Is!!
It was a tough loss, but the celts play inspired because of the pysch. thing pitino did about leaving at the end of the year if there isn't improvment. We were tired and they were inspired. We don't have the talent and experience to beat teams when we aren't on top of our game yet. ------------------
Why is it that the Rockets seem to play well against good teams (Lakers, Pacers, etc..) but tend to suck against the crappy teams like Boston? It doesn't make much sense. ------------------ My dream job is to be a Houston Rockets towel boy.
It is the way of the Rockets. The Rockets first defeat a good team. They feel great. Too great. They get cocky, and play down to weaker teams. Supposed 20 point routs turn into 20 point losses. This is why the Rockets never get a high playoff seed. If the Rockets would beat the teams they're supposed to, they could win 55+. Still, it will never happen. It is the way of the Rockets. ------------------ 2000-2001 Rockets Game Formulas: End of 1st quarter: "They're playing so well!" 2nd: "What a great game!" 3rd: "Theres no way they can lose now!" 4th: "What the ******* **** happened?!!" Revote! Revote! Revote!...... Rocket's Championship 2001!!
By the way, I also feel that this was the worst Rocket game I have ever seen. Hopefully they can learn something from this, and show high intensity against ALL teams. There are no excuses for this performance. That game was NOT NBA basketball. Right now, I'm ashamed to be a Rocket fan. Hopefully they can win the next 3 games to go 10-6. Then, maybe I will have some hope for this currently Clipper-like team. ------------------ 2000-2001 Rockets Game Formulas: End of 1st quarter: "They're playing so well!" 2nd: "What a great game!" 3rd: "Theres no way they can lose now!" 4th: "What the ******* **** happened?!!" Tonight we definately looked like a lottery team but on the other hand Boston looked like Championship contenders I think we're probably somewhere in the middle ------------------ I'm not the type to eat it up but the type to hit it raw dog and seed it up.
The worst half of Rockets basketball I have ever seen was last years first half at Boston. We were down 32-16 at the end of the first quarter. At least we made that one respectable in the second half and it got so close they had to bring back their starters. Second games of back to backs didn't seem to bother Thomas Hamilton. In the Celts game mentioned prior, he had 9 points on 4 of 6 with 5 boards in 22 minutes. And the FOLLOWING night Hamilton had 12 points on 6 of 11 and 11 boards in 33 minutes. Maybe the Rockets need to find out who 2 Sandwiches conditioning coach is. C'mon..most of these guys are in their early 20's. If you remove Dream, Bull & Wiz, the young Rockets shot a dismal 29.7%. IMHO, it's not the back to backs as much as being focused. I am reserving my Lottery projections until after game 25. Barring major injuries, we ought to see some trends from all of the teams. ------------------ GATER [This message has been edited by GATER (edited November 23, 2000).]
Patience people, all this game showed, is that we are still a young team that does not completely understand how to play smart all the time. It is easy to pass the ball when your teamates are making shots, like in Indiana, what is hard to do (for a young player) is to keep passing the ball even when they MISS a few shots. It is the right way to play, and our guards will eventually learn this, we are probably not as good as we played in the Indiana game, and not as bad as we played against Boston. We are a young team, and a record slightly above .500 would be acceptable growth for them.
