I guess I'm an odd baseball fan. I keep hearing on how much home runs is what brings the fans to the games. I find home runs boring most of the time. If it's a come from behind walk off homer, then that's pretty exciting. But most of the time, I find them boring. To me the most exciting thing is stealing bases. I love that because it seems like high tension excitement. There's so many elements that make it that way. Will the runner get a good jump? Does he have enough speed? On the other end, the pressure is on the defense and what kind of throw they'll get and how the tag will be applied etc. I also love highlight style catches and throws. A diving catch to save runs especially when combined with high degree of difficulty throw is exciting to me. Even the strategy of how to pitch to different batters seems more exciting than most home runs.
Baseball was my first sports love, so there are a number of things I like about the game, but my favorite has to be the pace. Most people complain about the pace of the game, but I really enjoy that part of it. I like being able to come home in the evening, flip on the game and know that for the next three hours or so, I'm going to be able to just sit back and enjoy the game. I find that it's also a nice pace for being able to multitask. With basketball or football, taking your eyes off of the screen to focus on something else for a few minutes means you will miss several plays or times up the court. With baseball, I can have the game on in the background while also surfing the internet or reading a book and still feel like I have a good grasp on what has happened.
I can't seem to like baseball for whatever reason. Home runs are nice or when they get 3 outs in one play (I'm sure there's a name for that). I only followed baseball when the killer B's went to the world series.
