If you have leadership maturity and fortitude, would you have kicked the ball after your teamate made a stupid mistake, given the circumstance at that time?

If your kids or colleagues did something wrong, would you first offer support and empathy and then address the problem when the time is right.

I know this could belong with other threads, but I just want to have a seperate thread to discuss about the mental aspects of what it takes to be a leader.

That had to have been one of the most idiotic moves i've seen in a long time. I mean i'm one of Francis biggest supporters but the team is already down by ten, struggling offensively and he does something like that.

There's not much maturity on this team, I'll give you that. But then again I have to ask, how many of you guys could say you were fully capable of controlling your emotions, maintaining rational decisions, and having respectable goals at the age of these guys on our team. I'm not trying to make excuses for these guys, but I think as fans we ask too much of this team. Eddie Griffin got busted for speeding and mar1juana. How many college kids at the age of 20 do you think haven't tried mar1juana atleast once, or gotten a traffic violation. Very slim percentage I'll say that much. I realize as fans we tend to put these guys on a pedastal and expect them to be perfect every time on the court, but it's not realistic nor is it rational to even think that. It's a nice dream however. Even in some of our older players lives around mid 20's, these guys have still barely reached the primes of their lives, and I'm not just talking about their careers on the court. While it's easy for us to spout trade rumors and fire coaching staff member threads, and cast insults on this team's large number of bone headed plays, we still have to realize this team is very young, and hasn't even reached their full potential. It is the coaches jobs to speed up the rate of our players potential and cohesiveness on the court, but we've had a lot to endure in one season to hinder that. We had to change our offensive structure in mid season to appeal more to Yao which may sound easy, but it's much harder then it would seem, we had to endure the loss of Rudy who I think were he to stay, this ball club would be in much better shape to get into the playoffs. People ask who the Rockets leader is. Well that's Rudy, and if you'll notice, our long stringed slump began when he had to take a leave of absence. Before he left, we were right at 6 games above .500 and were riding a 5 game win streak with a ton of momentum in our direction. Losing him really flustered any momentum we had, and I think arguably that's where the decline of our season began, but you could probably make a good case after Jan. 17th as well.

    London's Burning,

I do see what you are seeing. However, what bother me is not just with the Rockets, but all around the NBA. If a small company could hire consultants to teach and develop their employees into becoming tomorrow's leaders, how is it that a much more wealthy organization could not do the same. You can argue about whether they have the aptitude or not. But even if they don't, they still should have shown basic understanding of the fundamentals. Then again, why even bother discussing this. These players aren't really your average employees.

I don't blame him for doing that, BUT he is the supposed team leader, and as the leader you cannot go off the deep end like that at any point.

Now that would have made the game worth watching.
