Why did it take Dwight Howard to sign for Hakeem to join/help the Rockets? Didn't we have another, taller, better post presence just 5 years ago? I remember when Yao first joined, fans were begging for Hakeem to help. Well, he did help Yao, albeit just a little, and surely didn't help the whole team.
Yao didnt need help on post moves, he was like a 7'6 rik smits on steriods.. dwight is in some areas still in the post
Because we have nothing but scrubs Play the center spot... for crying out loud we had 6'6 Chuck Hays play the C (Played D like a GOD that year) but lets not complain now he is here and hes on our side so lets enjoy the Ws!
Maybe he was just ready to at this time in his life to return to the Rockets. Sometimes it comes down to timing, personal priorities, etc.
You wanted Dream to help Yao, while Yao was in a walking boot? Dream didn't start tutoring guys until a few years ago, Yao was on his way out at that point. Prior to that, Dream was busy. He's got business overseas.
Tom Thibodeau was Yao's personal coach and worked him out before and after every game and each practice. Tom Thibodeau is a pretty good coach fyi.
I'm sure it's because he has a long troubled history with the people of China. Or maybe this is just how it shook out. What kind of answer are you hoping for?
Point taken. All of your answers are valid, but Ewing was on the roster when JVG came aboard. Who was coach when Yao first played? Rudy?
Kobe seeking out Olajuwon in '09 is what really lit his fire. I like Yao, but he didn't have much for Dream to work with. McHale would've been much more suited to Yao had he been with the team, and I'd argue Dwight would be better off getting the mentality from Dream but the moves from McHale. IMO the true centers who have the tools to where Dream could get into the Ph.D level post moves are Demarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis, and the Gasol bros (who are probably a little on the slow side). The rest of the centers in the league would probably be better off trying to get McHale's moves down. Dwight gets both!! Hopefully he's realistic enough about his level of agility, finesse, and handles to not get mesmerized by the flash and focus his time on things he can actually do.

Let's set this straight, it was JVG who didn't allow dream to coach Yao. As I can remember that Dream said that during an interview.
