I don't fault their effort... it's just that nothing was going in for them. They missed a lot of shots that they would normally make... the Maurice Taylor missed dunk (which would have been pretty sick if he had completed it) is just symbolic of the whole night. Sometimes, you just have one of those nights...

Yes, we have just seen a self-destruction. EG tried to destroy himself first, and then the whole damn team.

Yao has one of his worst game. And he seemed to be slow, lack of passion, even lack of confidence at time. I remebered that Yao never had a good game again Blazers.

An interesting observation. Sun won today with very miserable output from A. Stoudemire (3pts, 6rbs). Suns usually wins when Stoudemire is low, and lose when he is high. The opposite could be said for YM in relation to Rocs win/loss. I think that Yao had caused us a game tonight. When he got lost on the floor, Rocs was confused too, as we have put so much deal about using YM as the pivotal point. Rocs does not know what to do. It is painful and frustrating to watch when Yao put a performance like that. At one point, I think that he need a kick under pants. When will come the day that we don't have to come to see his game nervously every night, fearing his being fragile again. The time will come while the wait could be painstaking sometimes. Go Yao!

    jeffbaf,

i saw the game differently then you. Yao took the shots he normally takes and makes. they just weren't falling tonight. One could argue that if his confidence were lacking, he would stop shooting. however, he kept on shooting, the shots just would not fall (not to mention that missed layup). he had a normal number of attempts tonight.

Did only players destroy the game?
Look at game process. When Rockets led and was hot, what did larry Smith do?Replace Possey and rest players that gave Portland a chance to catch upwith. When starters came back, they are cold.IMO,if our guys are younger and inexperienceed, why don't let them paly continusely to lead the game?

Yeah, agreed. Yao did not seem tired or unconfident... lots of rimouts and some bad luck--he wasn't throwing up airballs or anything. Just one of those days. Although, a few times I would have liked him to have taken it stronger to the basket. In fact, the game seemed pretty normal offensively (mostly pretty good looks), except for the fact that everyone suddenly had a terrible shooting night!

Yeah and what was up with LS taking out Posey early??? I think Rice should have went in a little earlier too...

The Suns have had the easier schedule. They played Denver and Memphis four times, while the Rockets have only played them three times. The played San Antonio, Dallas and Portland just three times, while the Rockets have played them four times.

It makes sense that the Suns have a better record, considering that they have had the easier schedule thus far. It will even out though, by the end of the season.

the suns are facing dallas and spurs who're battling for the division champions title. the major worry is if portland can win against them.

golden state and seattle can only play for pride but i'd doubt they have any heart left to trouble the suns.

Larry Smith has cancer in his head

I could not sleep when I thought last night's game. I know Yao, Steve and Mobley has a bad shooting night, but it was all the coach's fault. Nobody else could do more damage to the team than him.
Look at the first quater, Mo and Yao had the fisrt 10 point (8+2), Possy and Yao had the next 14 point (12+2), we were 23 to 19 end of the first quater. At this moment, Steve was not try more than 3 shots. Yao was about 2 for 4 or 5. But has 6 or 7 rebounds. Cat was the only one had 0 for 4 or 5 shooting, he also commit several bad pass in the first 7 miniutes play. I think it is partially because his injures, but anyway as team, I think Rox was doing a pretty good job.
I do not know why Larry did not make the regular change pattern for Yao. Somehow he let Yao played 2 more minutes in the second quater. Which is not bad, because our starting line-up continues their good offense, extende our largest lead to 9 points. The funny thing was, I did not see Steve and Yao anymore in the second quater. I saw our worst combination of players on the court fighting hard try to hold the couple points lead for some minutes. Then finally they gave up, we turned a 9 point lead into a 3 point defict at half time.
I can think about how frustrated Steve and Yao would be at this moments, and it could naturally effect the rest of the game. If you say this team would be build around Steve and Yao, why at this important moment, you let your best players sit for 10 minutes on the bench and watch you give away the game. This does not including another two hot hands, Possy got all his 15 points and Mo his 8 point before they left the court. When they came back, both of them did not get any more points. So, it is not Rox do not play with heart. It is the coach made them frustrating, made them do not know what to do. They are all young kids, if the coach do like that, they can not calm down themselves. Even Blazer's commentery said thanks Larry for not letting Possy stay on the courts.
I do not know what is in his Larry's head. It seems to me, he always try to prove Cato plays better than Yao, and Moochie plays better than Steve. It only because Steve and Yao are our offical starting lineups, he can not change too much. He is using every oppotunities he had try to prove his plan. Of course we had some wins since he came. But 4 won and 8 loss for a talent team at this playoff run situations. Even a machine can do better job than him.
I could not say more, this guy Larry definitely had cancer in his head, I am glad Goldenstate did not choose him as head coach for thier team. But they left this cancer to us.
I need go sleep now. Still need go to work tomorrow (actually today). Life will be good after you wake up.

i'm not totally unhappy about last night's game. only a humiliating performance like that can set the Rocs on fire. C'mon Rockets, let's start a winning streak!
    GO ROCKETS!!!

I know it may sound strange, but this season is worse than last season. Last season, at least the Rockets had injuries to blame, and the season was over with early so there was no stressing towards the end. We were also rewarded with Yao.

    This season.................well, we just suck!

i think some people will find this thread titel offensive, i think it is not a good titel.

as for the post, Most coach substitute their starters in the second quarter. i didn't see the game so i can't say he did wright or wrong, but i think it is nt go to blame the coach because some players played bad, francis and Yao had a off night shooting. At an unfortuned time. But to blame Smith for their bad shooting night isn't right

To feel better, put it into this perspective: The Rockets just won 12 games in a row to move within 2 games of the Phoenix Suns for the last playoff spot with 5 games remaining. See? now you all feel better?
