    Comets,

Of course a man can relate to what you are saying. Anyone would be an idiot not to get your drift.

Sure it would be a heartbreaker for all those girls and their dreams.

Everyone wants to have a shot at their dream.

Stupidmoniker, I'm glad you live in a world that is filled with happy, go-lucky thoughts and actions. But here in the real world discrimination is alive and present. If you really want to believe that equality among the genders is present then I can't stop you. Yes may be a female could play on an NBA team but that's why there's a women's league...so we can play against each other. I played throughout H.S. and the JR. college level and I would have never wanted to play on the guy's team. I'm not a guy! Physically I will admit that men, in most cases are stronger than women. Personally I'm not trying to get slammed up against a wall by a guy that's twice my size in a game of basketball. I would have nothing to prove by doing so.

As for the players being crappy, I'd bet a 3rd string player in the WNBA could take you. You may not think they can play and you feel safe saying they can't from a distance, but I bet if you actually came face-to-face with a WNBA player you would never challenge her to a game. Men usually don't like being "showed-out" by women.

Go ahead and fire away at me...I know it's coming:D!

DaDakota, sorry I really try not to get so worked up about these issues. But I guess because I am so close to the siuation (being a girls basketball coach) that sometimes I just don't feel that people understand the importance of the WNBA for girls. I'm sorry if I implied that you were incapable of feeling or something like that. That's not where I intended to go with it.

My mom played on the college level and my dad was a basketball coach, so I've learned first hand how far women's basketball has come. And this awareness is something that I just don't take for granted.

The WNBA will exist if there's a market but your condescending remarks are comical. There is no rule preventing 12 year olds from being in the NBA either. I know if there was a 12 year old that could help the Rockets we'd draft him in a second.

    Can you say... dishonestly oblivious?

I am sure gonna miss those Dykes on parade signs they raise up sometime at the game lol......

If anyone has went to a Comets game you will know what I am talking about.

One day a handful had a sign up that had the word Dyke in it and some little girl sitting next to me ask her mom "mommy what is a dyke and why are all those girls dressed like boys" lol

Sometimes you can get a hot looking lesbo and Bi babe who makes great eye candy at the games.

If anyone has some pics of Dykes holding up signs at the games with the word Dyke in it PLEASE post! ROFL

Alot of players are good and your right guys hate to be showed up by women.....especially good looking ones.:p

Will the Wnba ever be as succesfull as the nba? Doubtful. However, that doesn't mean that there isn't a place for it. Some of the bashing it gets on this board is kinda weak IMHO. Sure most of them are ugly, but who cares. If you want to see hot chicks on tv watch a Baywatch rerun on TNN or something.

True basketball fans will watch any game in my opinion. And from a woman's perspective: we have to watch some butt-ugly players in the NBA, but you don't hear us complaining.

don't you have to be 18 (or turn 18 in the year of the draft) to play in the nba?

as far as the wnba goes, it's just like all other sports leagues in that it's survival is all about financial viability. if you're league makes enough money/generates enough revenue you keep going. otherwise you go the way of the xfl, usfl, cba, etc etc. it has nothing to do with discrimination. if people wanna watch it and it's successful, it'll keep going, if they don't, there's no rule law says there has to be a professional women's basketball league.

    Never said it wasn't.

Yes may be a female could play on an NBA team but that's why there's a women's league...so we can play against each other.

Weren't you just saying something about discriminating based on gender being bad? Yet you want a league only one gender is allowed to play in. Interesting.

I played throughout H.S. and the JR. college level and I would have never wanted to play on the guy's team. I'm not a guy!

What if there was only 1 co-ed team? Would you rather play on that team or not at all?

Physically I will admit that men, in most cases are stronger than women. Personally I'm not trying to get slammed up against a wall by a guy that's twice my size in a game of basketball. I would have nothing to prove by doing so.

I have never seen an NBA player slammed into a wall.

As for the players being crappy, I'd bet a 3rd string player in the WNBA could take you.

I am quite certain a third string JC girl could beat me, then again I suck. I am also not asking for a professional league to accommodate my lack of talent. :p

You may not think they can play and you feel safe saying they can't from a distance, but I bet if you actually came face-to-face with a WNBA player you would never challenge her to a game. Men usually don't like being "showed-out" by women.

I probably wouldn't challenge anyone to a game. I would accept a challenge though. I think it would be fun just to say I had played against a pro-baller. Who knows, maybe I drain a few lucky threes and win. Then I get to brag about it to everyone. I probably would never use the phrase showed-out either. :)

Go ahead and fire away at me...I know it's coming:D!

    Very perceptive. ;)

I think you have to be 18 or finish high school or something. Are you saying the Rockets wouldn't draft a kid that met the minimum age requirements? *cough* LeBron James *cough*

The WNBA is a good idea because it allows basketball fans whether it be men's or women's basketball to watch the game we love.

How many people here watched any of the Women's NCAA Tournament? I can't lie I flipped back and forth to see if UConn would lost to Texas, and I made it home in time to see UConn beat Tennessee. It peaks my interest. It will be pretty neat to see a player like Taurasi play in the WNBA, instead of her having to go overseas to play and thus not allowing a basketball fan to watch her display her skills in the pros.

However, the big problem with the WNBA is the players want too much. As well as it has been marketed, it still relies too heavily on the NBA's support. I understand it is difficult for WNBA players to watch NBA players make so much more, however more people watch the NBA and buy more NBA merchandise. When you have WNBA players who talk about how they relish in the fact that they get to play at home and turn around three years later and say that if they can't get paid more they'll go overseas, then it gets a little disheartening. (I am well aware of the fact that male NBA players are also hypocritical as well).

The women's game has evolved quickly, and will continue to, however, if money is the deciding factor (and it always is) it will start to corrupt a very sound game. WNBA players should be happy with the opportunity they have, (look what happened to the ABL they didn't have the support the WNBA had), and realize it takes time for the salary scale to come up.

Daaaamn, some of you guys are being a bit harsh aren't you?

What does it hurt to allow women to play in their own league?
If you don't like it, don't watch it..pretty simple.

Gotta admit..the games are only fun to watch if you appreciate more team oriented basketball..

oh, and RIET....there has already been a woman that dunked in a game..doesnt happen very often, but it has been done. ;)
