The first woman that dunks in a WNBA game gets a $5 raise.

This is how it should be done. Get it done or you can sit a whole year. Period. The NBA players should be forced to this kind of deadline the same way.

I wonder what it is that people who dislike something so much have nothing better to do than to waste their time being so up to date with news on it.

They will work it out, nothing wrong with reminding people about the realities of the situation.

Women's ball is not all that, but they do pass and play a nicer team oriented game, especially when compared to the current Rockets team.

My main problem with the WNBA has always been that the women's basketball in college is a far superior on-court product, IMO.

Everytime I've tried to watch the WNBA, the quality of play has been horrendous. If you go watch the 5A state Texas girls state championship in Austin you will see a better game than the WNBA.

I'd like to see the WNBA succeed, but I don't really care to watch it myself. I have a hard enough time watching some NBA teams. The reality is that not many people want to watch women play basketball, even if the league is made up of the best women players in the world. I could start a league made up of guys 6' and under, but I can't imagine that it would survive--even if all the guys were skilled players. There's just not a market for such things.

Being a girls high school and little dribblers basketball coach, I think that the folding of the WNBA would crush a lot of young girls dreams. For my kids, the WNBA is a goal for them. And within the past 6 years I've watched young women smile in amazement because they came to the realization that their time had come and that there would be a professional league in the U.S. that they could aspire to be in.

Plus, with the WNBA young girls are able to have role models that are female, unlike me who had no other choice than to admire Magic Johnson and Larry Bird. Of course they were great players but I always knew, even when I was 10, that I would never have the opportunity to play basketball on a professional level. Actually I never even thought about playing professionally because the option wasn't there.

I would never expect all men to understand how much the WNBA means to me, other women and the young girls I work with. You all (men) have at least been able to know, throughout your lives, that there was an opportunity for you to move up and keep your dreams. You did not have to sacrifice your goals because you had come to the "end of the road" in your endeavors. I don't expect you to understand how it feels to have your dreams shattered because of your gender, because you never will.

So, for all of the men that want to see the WNBA fold, you have the right to feel however you want. Who cares about the little girls that get to, if nothing else, at least dream about what they could be? I know that your daughters would be proud to know that you feel it's okay to discriminate and judge one's abilities based on nothing more than one's gender.

No one has asked you to love this league, but is it too much to ask for you to look at it from someone else's perspective?

Yeah...you're right. It is. Why would I expect you to?

    Comets,

No one wants it to fold, just that they have to be reasonable in their salary demands.

    Sheesh...talk about melodramatic.

Isn't that exactly what the WNBA does? There is no rule preventing women from being in the NBA, it is just the (relative)crappiness of the players. If a woman would help an NBA team win, they would probably draft her. The fact of the matter is, any 15th man in the NBA is better than Lisa Leslie, Sheryl Swoops, or whoever. If a woman really wants to play pro ball and the WNBA folds, she could play overseas, or try to make one of the existing co-ed professional leagues (NBA, NBDL, USBL, whatever).

DaDakota, first of all I suggest you re-read the previous posts. Although no one came out and said "I hope it folds" it doesn't take a genius to figure out that some of the previous posts referred to the WNBA ending.

Also as for being melodramatic, call me what you want. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say that you are a male. It's quite easy to tell by your lack empathy regarding my post's subject matter. But like I said IN my post, I woould never expect you to understand what I'm trying to point out. And that is not your fault. There are just some things that some men will never be able to relate to. And this subject happens to be one of them.
