I guess the point of my rant is why does Lin deserve 100's of articles but none on Harden actually defending someone this season, or Parsons becoming more consistent and defending better, or Bev not fouling, or DMo's shot, or McHale's rotation, or Asik's whinning about playing time. The whole Rockets team can get better. I dont need a MIT geek to write up a paper saying a young pg whos played 100 gms is inconsistent. Especially after the 100 similiar articles on Bleacherreport, espn, cnnsi, dreamshake, foxsports, chron.com etc. He might as well write up that fire is hot and grass is green.
Well just in case Lin plays like crap again, I heard Rondo wants to play for Houston. I think Lin will have a much better season though compared to last year. Lin's job is secure if he can at least avg. 8 assist a game. he shoulda at least avg that many assists with last season's team.
I understand your frustration due to the over-saturation of Lin articles, but I'm a bit believer in free markets, so I presume that on some level, it is because people WANT to read about Lin (more than the other stuff you listed at least). When they don't, the articles will die down...which to be fair, I feel like they have been recently. But to characterize GBRocket's article as yet another report talking solely about Lin's inconsistency is extremely unfair. He had a lot of great points in there and I swear that inconsistent comment was like a one-liner or something. Is that really all you took away from the article? Because if so, then I feel like maybe you went into it a bit too biased. Even-handed articles about Lin are rather rare, so to see one that is decently even-handed and somewhat reliant on stats...well, let's just say that I did appreciate it and thought it was a good, informative read. I'd love to see more articles like that versus most of the crap we see on Bleacher Reports or yahoo news. /shudders
Short of it being a great trade chip, I Would not want Rondo on the Houston team. If you guys thought Lin didn't fit well w/ Harden...lol. A person who is a worse shooter than Lin, stops the offense more often and requires the ball in his hands...hm. Plus his attitude problems? Yeesh.
Mr. Fudge I have to disagree with the statement I took and plotted out his WS and %Assisted (the best metric for figuring out who can create their own shots IMHO) for PGs in the league last season. You can see Lin right on the trend line at about 40/4. He seems to be right where I would expect a recovering from injury PG with 100 NBA games under the belt.
The interesting thing about Lin's decision making is he seems to have a pretty good idea of the best place for the ball to be; just not always on the risk/reward ratio of trying to get it there.
I am with you 1000%! I am a Lin fan but for the most part, I am also a Rocket fan. When we all know BB is a team sport, why the heck all those writers keep writing nonsense about Lin as if this is Lin's team. I am more amused by those who claimed Lin is average player but keeps writing on him. If you believe he is an average player, then move on to write something more excite, write someone who deserve the attention of every reader, why do you keep the obsession on Lin? Lin this, Lin that, I am fed up with it!
Nice graph. Seems to suggest Lin is about average for creating his own shot, but don't confuse the ability to create one's own offense with actually doing it. The Rockets last season did not need Lin to create his own shot that often -- if anything, they geared the team somewhat away from that. If you checked his NYK %assisted, it is actually ~23%, significantly lower than the 39% he posted last season.
what made u say so? Are u suggesting all these writers are focus on negatives at Lin??? Frankly, Lin is the 4th option in the team, I would rather read more about Harden,DW or even Parson, for god sake!
I don't understand why its such a bad thing for Lin to come off the bench. He could still play 30 minutes a game, win a 6th man award if he plays well, win the Manu Ginobili "most humble" hall of famer award if we become a dynasty.... and everyone is happy. lol He is clearly better suited to have the ball in his hand, attack, and make plays, rather than sit on the wing. Sixth man makes too much sense for this to not be his destiny this season
I thought you made some great points in your previous post. Taking a personal shot at someone whom you may not agree with might actually have people look at you less favorably, and even find less merit in your arguments because you went that route. GBRocket made his case, and you made yours. It might be best to leave the playground taunts out of the discussion. * JTR -- Great graph, thanks! * Yeah. I think Lin is a superior passer, one of the best passers in the league. Particularly on alley-oops and full- and half-court passes. But he still needs to figure out when to make those passes and when not to attempt them. Also, as his ballhandling improves, his TO numbers should decline (in addition to continuing to improve on when to, and not to, make certain passes).
Harden's strength is creating his own shot, and that will continue to be the case. He can spot up, but he will need to get better at it. I am somewhat optimistic that Jeremy will improve as a spot up shooter with Howard around, and that may help him to play off Harden as well.
It may suit him more, but we can't rely on James Harden to play the starting PG role. SAS is lucky, they have Parker which makes it easier for Manu to come in as a sixth man.
LOL. Thanks. I am mostly complete with an application that allows the user to generate graphs like this without effort. 20! (factorial) graphs + 50 more static charts/graphs. Am I OCD? Maybe ..... a little.
