I'd rather see Griff get 15 - 20 minutes than see TMo on the court.

    qrui:

    CBA = collective bargaining agreement.

    I agree. They copped a plea to get fined and go to drug counseling. The difference is that they were in someone else's car, and they got Class C's misdemeanors. Griffin has a Class A. We also don't know if Griffin has failed piss tests before. If he has, then the league will probably test him immediately on probably cause, and he will fail again...which in itself might lead to suspension.

    So would that qualify as "Pee Wee Herman type stuff"? ;)

    I guess I wasn't clear. This is both a situation equivalent to a failed piss test, and it is also a "Misconduct" issue, due to the arrest--Misconduct is not as clearly defined by the NBA...they probably look at the severity of the crime/conviction.

    If Eddie is convicted of possession, pleads guilty (or nolo contendere), or cops a plea bargain like Stoudamire/Wallace, then this offense is treated identically to a piss test failure, where his 3rd strike is an automatic 5-game suspension.

    However, this also falls under "Misconduct" paragraphs of the Uniform Player Contract, where technically, they can suspend outside of the NBA's Anti-Drug Program, but very doubtful for anything other than felonies, gambling or repeated arrests or moral turpitude.

    i meant,,,felonies, gambling, or repeated arrests of moral turpitude, or things that embarrass the league/team: Marv Albert, Pee Wee Herman, draft dodging, unpatriotic statements during war time, turning your back to the flag, etc.

    That was actually a joke. Play on words, Pee Wee - piss test? OK, I guess if I'm explaining it, it wasn't that funny. :(

    Is there any precedence for players arrested for alleged mar1juana possessions (class A misdemeanors)? I suspect the team may fine/suspend him, but the league wouldn't get involved. But again, as you suggested, they probably wouldn't want to penalize him unless he was actually convicted of a crime. If anything happens to him, it'll probably be in a couple of months at the EARLIEST.

    Toast,

    Stoudamire and Wallace (arrested together) and Woods all have mar1juana possession charges this year. Stoudamire and Wallace have since plea bargained, which is considered equivalent to a failed piss test, by the NBA. I believe Woods hasn't gone to trial.

    Possession charges carry heavier penalties based on the amount of substance found. I don't think those were Class A, like Griffin's. I believe they were Class C (the least of the misdemeanors), which is basicly less that a joint.

    None of them were given suspensions, and Eddie probably won't either (even if convicted--which is probably cut and dry), unless he has failed two piss tests already...and it seems from RRNY's posts, that he has failed at least one, to date.

    btw: the league is not allowed to divulge failed tests to anyone, so there is no way to confirm this.
