The Answer to this question is actually why teams like Indy can go into candlestick and win...QB play... I would like to know how many QBs in the NFL has the distinction of throwing an INT that gets run back for a TD. Matt has a knack for being special in this category...
Legit question, just how close did the Texans come to losing their first two games? Is this a team that could easily be 0-3?
lack of playmakers on defense. Besides Cushing and Watt, there is nobody on defense that is making special plays on the ball. Reed you remain to be seen with him as he is old. But Flacco did not test the guy out once playing centerfield.
Your leader sets the tone. Cannot be conservative. The Texans are very predictable with Schaub as our QB. He drops back and the defense reads the play with his stance.
They could get back to running the ball at an elite level... but everybody here believes its "old fashioned" and would rather sling the ball around every down (even though none of the pass-only teams have had any real sustained success). Still feel they need to run the ball at an elite level to have any sort of sustained success this year.
You can't polish a turd. This o-line is worse than it was two seasons ago. Foster is also two years younger. The window was wide open and now its closing. Its natural.
Not buying the Foster regression. He's looked better each game as he's reported he's felt better each game. The line will have his pass-rushing deficiencies vs elite blockers, but still should get better with more reps together in regards to the ZBS (still may not get back to 2010-2011 eliteness). Of course, playing from behind limits the running opportunities... but they usually start games off throwing the ball somewhat aggressively.
I'm with Reeko on this one. The Oline is trash. It can get better...but I don't see it with Newton starting at RT, Brown has not had a great start to the season either. It can get better...but I don't trust Newton at all, and one weak link in your line is enough to make it garbage because that's the side the defense is going to attack. I do think they still are able to run the ball though, I think the stats through the first two games had them as one of the best at doing that, we'll see where they stand after this week.
Yep, Newton sucks. Hasn't been the same since Winston left. And Leach leaving didn't help run blocking either.
Schaub and Kubiak's bull**** offense. Schaub is a system qb that rely's on establishing the run game so he can do his play action. He has neither the zip in his arm or decision making ability to contend. Kubiak has a lack of offensive strategy. His whole offense is built around the run and play action. When the Texans do not establish a run game they can not rely on play action and thus fail when Schaub throws interceptions, or just throws it away or just gets sacked. The only bright spots this team has had on a consistent basis has been Andre Johnson and Owen Daniels, and Duane Brown on offense and JJ Watt, Brian Cushing, and Antonio Smith of Defense. Bob McNair and the Texans' organization should part ways with Kubiak and Schaub after this season if they are not successful. These guys have had plenty of time.
By the way, Our Special Teams Suck! Remember the Texans cut Trindon Holliday who is currently with the Broncos and is killing it. The last time our offense was any good was when Kyle Shanahan was our Offensive Coordinator. This is when our offense was more dynamic and didn't solely rely on running the ball and play action. It was less predictable. Its been our defense in the past years thats gotten us to the playoffs.
if the Texans have poor campaign this season(ie no playoffs), I do think it is time to part ways with Schaub and Kubiak...Another 1 and done campaign could get the chair warmer...A playoff win(to Cincy) and 2nd round loss might make me throw up.. Title game might be gravy....Superbowl win...right who are we kidding... Here is the absolutely dangerous situation. Some teams often times just hold on a bit too long. AJ has gotten older, so has Schaub, OD, and Foster...While our defense is young enough, our defensive studs are getting into their primes, while Schaub and this anemic/predictable offense has been getting older. If the Texans were a team that isnt run on emotions and loyalty, and kinda run like DMorey and the Rockets, we would expect to see Kubiak fired after this offseason. Then, we would hire an new OC and let Wade run the team and defense. Then, I would trade Owen Daniels and maybe even Arian Foster for draft picks and start again and completely retool the offense. Suffer one more year with Schaub/Bench QBs, cut him at the end of the season and then draft a decent QB in the 2015 draft.
Agreed except for letting Wade as HC. We need somebody who has won before (as HC) or fresh blood ala Harbaugh/Pagano. Wade has proven he isn't the man, maybe defensively too.
Do you really want to make the playoffs anyway? We face Denver or New England and we will get blown out by 20+. Missing the playoffs would be a good thing for us. We get better draft position and might finally get rid of Schaub and Kubiak. We make the playoffs and we stay mediocre and keep our same ol boring team and coaching staff. The only downside to missing the playoffs is that we might have Wade as HC next year. Other than that, its all upside imo.
Schaub and Kubiak can not lead to this team to a SB. Well, I am hoping that I am wrong, but I though that you need a great or a very coach to lead the team to SB. When was last time for a team coached by a mediocre coach to win a SB?
