all you're reduced to is playing the blame game

Obama would rather go on Leno or talk about Trayvon than roll up his sleeves and work

I say stick to your principles. Would not be the first time Congress has used the power of the purse to stop a President from enacting terrible policy.

The media will be sure to spin it and blame the Republicans, but it is clear to me that Democrats are being just as hard-headed, and THEY don't have the support of the country. The country does not support Obamacare, they think it is a train wreck and many are already seeing the disastrous effects. Congress was given the authority do to what it is threatening to do, and if Obama is too stubborn to agree (or even negotiate), so be it.

Simply saying it's Republicans fault and predicting their "inevitable" defeat, does not make it so.

I support Ted Cruz for standing up for what is right.

I disagree. It's Obama's policies that are disastrous to the poor. How many more on welfare? Health care expenditures? Unemployment? Federal debt? Food stamp recipients? Home values? Poverty rate? All increased at a significantly higher rate under Obama...blame Bush though, right?

Yep, pretty much. (I'm always amazed that Repubs act horrified when food stamp and other safety net numbers go up during a recession.)

Thought Obama said that because of him we are out of the recession? I'm not horrified, I'm certainly concerned though. Are you not?

I get them from polls, such as these, and I get them from being out in the real world, where I speak to concerned citizens each and everyday.

There are many who disagree with the strategy, but don't mistake that for their approval of the ACA.

Sorry, meant to include this link, which has the data from many polls. Averages out to about 53 percent disapproval and 38 percent approval. And it's only getting worse and more and more people actually see effects from this law.

    Can you name some others?

Actually, they do. Polls show that the majority do not support defunding Obamacare.

Can you point us to these disastrous effects? As for polling, did you know that approval of "Obamacare" goes up noticably when the same question is just asked with the name "Affordable Care Act"? It should make you think about the polling and why that may be.

No, but looking at reality certainly makes it so. Do you think the GOP will win a defunding fight?

Wait - so you oppose the House GOP that voted to defund Obamacare now? They are livid at Ted Cruz.

Umm, your own graph shows that popularity just keeps going up and down in a consistent narrow, 5pt range, and has been doing so since 2010.

Popularity of "Obamacare", not surprisingly, just follows the popularity of "Obama". I wonder why?

Saying its terrible policy and it has disastrous effects doesnt make it so but this possible shut down is precisely the fault of Republicans. They have designed the whole thing and to say otherwise is bull.

Yes, please stick to your principles. Shut down the government and default on the debt. It's the right thing to do when you don't have the votes.

There is a word for people who would destroy a government over ideology.

In this case it would be called a check or a balance. They're leveraging one piece of legislation against another with the threat of enacting existing contingency plans; not exactly Lumumba and Kasavubu, here.

Deja vu. Congress needs to be purged of all wingnuts who turn everything into a two-sided sporting event.

Cornyn is interesting; I guess positioning yourself with the de-facto leadership is more valuable than any kind state solidarity, especially if you're the senior Senator.

There are many things worthy of worry, and different media outlets bombard you with different options.

Personally, that the # of people on foodstamps goes up after a recession and, in general, as wealth is further accumulated by the very few? That's just a logical consequence of a big problem. It's not a problem on its own.

Worrying about how to quit giving people foodstamps is like putting antiperspirant all over your face because your 102 degree fever is making you sweat.
