Coco's & Osaka. Coco's for sushi & atmosphere. Osaka for the best sushi near downtown. Worst I've had was Wasabi downtown by the courts. Seems like we have some Stratford HS area peeps here from the "running w/ Ken" talk.
I've been accused of lots of things on this BBS over the years, but this is one I can live with! When you go...try the Azuma roll. It'll twist your cap back!
Yup Ken Takagi from Stratford. That guy is definitely a blast to hang with. For awhile he had a picture of me skiing in eighth grade behind the sushi bar and he was telling everyone it was Tommy Mo. He was trying to get me to sign it. Beware if he gets too much sake in him (hell you gotta buy the chef a drink or six) cause he'll try to make you do the karaoke.
Forgot to add...Saki Lounge at the Bayou Place sux azz...Food is so-so and service is the worst in the world...honest... I tried a place in Pasadena, BW8/Fairmont...Little Tokyo...It was actually pretty good food and atmosphere...
Sushi bar happy hour at Ichiban's in Kemah is awsome. There is a Ichiban's in Houston too but I don't know where it is.
Number 1 sushi man!!If you watched Jamie Kennedy you know what I'm talking about. That was some funny stuff.
Agree with Yan Sushi on Holcombe and Greenbriar; best sushi for the buck. Also agree with Coco's-damn good sushi. Also agree with Miyako-decent, but nothing incredible. I consider myself a sushi expert, since just about every date I go on wants to eat sushi. The two you have missed so far: Tokyohana on 59 and Buffalo Speedway. Damn good sushi, and the chef will accomodate for whatever your whim's may be. Nara on Westheimer and Wilcrest; probably my favorite; just too damn far. If you ever go there, be sure and order the godzilla roll. It is fantastic! BTW: Godzilla roll is simply a tuna roll (rice on outside) coated with pulverized fresh jalepenos and topped with more than a dash of Tabasco sauce. :Homer with his tongue hanging out:
Wow, I thought I was the only one! They also have the best teryaki chicken. If you can get the courage to go into the place, (its really small and the seating is bad) imo it's better the Kubo's and Cafe Japon on Kirby and 59
I'm gonna have to check out Coco's. I drive by it all the time but I've never been in there. On a Fri. or Sat night, what is the optimum time to go there for the scene? I will also have to check out Ichiban.
Todai in Houston is one of the worst sushi places I've been to. I am not speaking of the rolls, but of the maguro, salmon etc... It is not fresh, nor of very high quality. I have to admit I haven't gone since it first opened though, so the quality might have gotten better or I might have just had a bad experience. If you desire a sushi buffet, I agree that Kirin near Willowbrook mall is good. Kirin One on Westheimer and Fountainview has gone down hill big time. I wouldn't bother going there. IMHO Kubos in the village is by far one of the best Sushi places in town.
Agreed. The reason I haven't eaten at Todai in Houston is because I ate at the original Todai Lighthouse in Santa Monica a few years ago. Same buffet setup, and the sushi was some of the worst I've ever had. Seemed like if nobody ate it the day it was made they had no problem serving it up again the next day, and the next.....
