that looked like Vernon Maxwell playing defense for the Rockets in the 3rd quarter highlights. Funny video, lots of skills for your son!

Geez finally someone that is legitimately about to be in Kevin Durant's level. Amazing that he is 5. This is coming from someone with a 3 1/2 year old son.

#*$&^#~!!!! I hate that we don't have an answer to stop #13. He's all over the place and has the intensity of all the other players put together. What the Rockets got to do in this situation, Bill, is match up that intensity and double team him. Slow him down, get on his face, stop him from stealing the show. He's a one-man team! Slow down, big fella!

:( The Rockets need to sign him when he becomes a free agent. The Thunder are lucky to have him. Kudos for a big win. The Thunder deserve it.

 Good game, Micah and team!

    Pretty cool.

Only downside, he was on the Thunder. :)

Awesome, I can't wait till my son is old enough to join a league like this.

I like Micah's hustle, especially when he hit the shot and immediately ran back on defense (and everyone else stood around confused as to what to do)

    That's awesome.

Weird to critique a 5-year old's game, but, aside from the scoring and dribbling, I hope you understand how incredible/unusual it is that a 5-year old knows to/attempts to chase down loose balls like that. The other 9 kids on the court standing around dumbfounded with their fingers in their noses when shots go up is the norm, and will be for several more years of kids playing ball.

I'd definitely emphasize and reinforce to him how good and important that part of the game is, if you don't already. He will have a leg up on his competition throughout his youth if he chooses to keep that up as a strength of his.

Thanks guys. His love for basketball is very unique. He will see numbers and just randomly say, "14? that is one more than James Harden's number!" "22, oh man one more than that would be Michael Jordan's number. "

We recently watched Planes. The story is basically a crop dusting plane could never be a racing plane because he was too small. At the end when the crop duster proves everyone wrong he looks at me and says that is just like Calvin Murphy.

My wife and I are small. I am 5’7” and she is s smidge under 4’11”. He will never be big. I explained to him there will always be big kids and they will always block your shots. It is part of being a smaller guy. I told him to not let it bother him and to hustle to get the rebound after a block. Some of big kid(the 6 year olds the parents insist on playing with the prek-k class) really swat the crap out of him and his first instinct is to track down the loose ball and take another shot. At this point it is always time to make the donuts. Nothign throws him off.

Read the article if you can. My wife is a wonderful writer.

Height is overrated (unless you're talking about pro ball). Figuring out how to compete with the big boys while being so much smaller is going to make him better at literally every facet of his game. It essentially forces his lack of height into an advantage, if the desire is there (which it clearly is).

Be warned though: he WILL be "that guy". You know, the one that gets under the skin and annoys the crap out of all of his opponents, but that his teammates love to play with.

There were times during the game where I wanted to pull my hair out. Micah would have 4-5 guys playing defense on him at once and he would keep trying to back them all in at once to score.

When I asked him why he didn't pass the ball to his teammates like we worked on all day in practice he simple answered, "I knew I could score on them."

As a dad with the smallest kid on the court my heart swelled because of his confidence.
As his coach I reminded him he is part of a team and he needs to get the ball to an team mate.

You can see how far ahead your kid is ahead of everyone else there. He was the only one that had the correct concept of dribbling, traveling, and double-dribble. Which is something you wouldn't expect at that age as evidence by everyone else out there. Hopefully he stays ahead of everyone as he grows up.
