I don't think its surprising. She looks like she's had work done.

I just don't care. She isn't the first person to get surgery done to "enhance" their self-perception, and to improve their "self-perceived" chances of better employment opportunities. I said "self-perceived" because she was attractive before she did anything. Not a knockout, by any means, but attractive. If I got the bags removed from under my tired old eyes, and hair implants for my mostly bald head, would I be all that different, really, other than being a guy who had something done, someone who happens to be much older than her and, coincidentally, bigtexxx, even though I'm clearly more intelligent than texxx is, as he wallows in his misbegotten youth?

 

Double eyelid surgery is one of those things in Korea that is just normal and not controversial. For the life of me I don't understand why.

No, I am just saying most non Asian Americans have a different sense of hotness when it comes to Asian women compared to Asian Americans.

 

As a non-Asian American I agree with your previous statement; Chen and Liu aren't that sexy. Now, please explain this different sense of hotness when it comes to Asian women that Asian American men possess as compared non-Asian American men. Maybe we just have similar tastes as Americans when it comes to the Asian ladies?

Julie Chen was a 3 before the surgery. I don't have a problem with making yourself attractive for showbiz. No different than getting enhancements to the rest of your body. In the end, she married the guy in charge of CBS. She won.

I had to google double eyelid surgery to figure out what that was. At first I couldn't understand what that was all about. But it finally clicked that it eliminates that gold fish eye look. Is this inherent for Koreans? I didn't really noticed this before on other people.

She looks a lot lot better now post surgery than she was before. Very common looking. Understandable why she did it.

As for the racial component...not sure how that plays in since women in media are judged more on their looks than their actual merits. I'm betting all those cable news/sports hotties have had more than one job done on their bodies.

And seriously, it takes some shallowness and self-absorbtion to make it in the entertainment industry.

 

I love asian women who look less asian. actually light skinnned blacks is a good analogy. remember the vivian switch on fresh prince of bellaire orblisa bonet the half black cosby kid

 

Lucy Liu has more than twenty years of experience at comedy, big budget, drama, action and dramatic television. That she looks about 15 years younger than that makes her a sufficiently compelling presence on screen. Julie Chen is an experienced broadcaster and presenter who admittedly benefits from nepotism but doesn't seem to detract that much from very high rated and successful shows she's been on. I don't believe they're similar enough aesthetically for your thesis to hold water.
