When Shandon Anderson bolted the Jazz for Houston two summers ago, he had hopes of establishing himself as a marquee player.

Lately, he has been finding himself the odd man out.

No one on the Rockets is talking about it, but a feud is simmering between Anderson and teammates Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley.

The issue: Finding someone willing to pass Anderson the ball.

Since scoring 25 points in a victory over Milwaukee in the second game of the season and following that with 19 points in a loss to the Clippers, Anderson has since scored a total of 30 points in seven games.

Anderson, who usually doesn't care about such things, got upset during Houston's 84-74 victory over the Lakers when he posted up, only to be waved off by Francis.

Afterward, Anderson apparently erupted, and has been paying for it since. In the last five games, Anderson has gotten just 16 shots, zero free- throw attempts and has scored a total of 13 points. And he's the starting shooting guard.

By comparison, Mobley -- the sixth man -- has taken 49 shots (making 25) and 30 free throws in the last five games, and Francis has taken 65 shots in the last five games (making 30) and 19 foul shots.

With this team's fragile chemistry, it could reach a head soon.

I KNEW IT......It's impossible to get just 2 shots a game playing the SHOOTING GUARD spot and playing AT LEAST 25 minutes......

What worries me is that as MoTaysGottaGo gets more in the flow of the offense, Shandon will see even less touches, giving less opportunity to get in the groove of things.

Shandon's my favorite Rocket and I'd hate to see him go but if he's looking to break out, it won't happen here. Pass isn't in MobleySucks' vocabulary and Stevie NoWonder really doesn't seem to be looking for him, either.

I wonder what a package of Anderson and Cato could get net us from the Suns?

    Sane,

Great find on the article. However, I wonder if he's blowing it out of proportion when he says "With this team's fragile chemistry, it could reach a head soon"?

Also, one would think Rudy would keep an eye on these things.

Some of you guys with access to the games on TV keep us posted about how Shandon reacts in-game.

This is bad news.... I hope that they resolve this dispute soon.

On the bright side, this team does have good chemistry and a good coaching staff, which leads me to believe that all problems will be resolved soon(hopefully).

Exactly...I doubt Rudy would let something like this fester and boil over. Shandon gets his touches but just doesn't do much with them.

Sheesh, who knew winning again would cause all these problems?

Consider the source - the Ogden Standard-Examiner. That's Ogden as in Ogden UTAH. I'm sure that fine publishing organization had many representatives on hand in LA for a first hand report.

I am trusting of Rudy T and the staff to manage our "fragile" chemistry.

I do think Shandon has been in a funk since his mom's passing. He's still playing pretty solid D. Any huge Shandon fans know if he is a notoriously slow starter? He did not lead the team in points until the 17th and 18th games of last season and never got to consistent double figure scoring until game about the 11th or 12th game last season.

If Steve Francis wants to be the Rockets leader, he needs to address this as well.

If Francis really is shunning Shandon because of an argument, then he definitely has some more maturing to do. Francis's job is to get other people involved. Little personal squabbles should not figure into game time situations. He is not doing his job when it comes to Shandon. Rudy needs to speak up as coaches are supposed to smooth these things over. Damned if I want to lose Shandon over some inner team squabbling. Rudy better figure out something fast before this situation becomes impossible to correct.

Some of those reporters out there need to start pushing some buttons to figure out what the hell is going on. After all, this is their job, this topic doesn't appear to be going away, and this is a hot story for us Rocket fans. They may even help smooth things over by getting the communication going cause right now, by all accounts, it appears Shandon is an outcast. And, if he's an outcast on the court, that cannot bode well for relationships off the court.

Then again, this may not be it at all. I have watched Shandon as of late on the offensive end. All he seems to do is run back and forth along the baseline with his man in tow. It's like he's going nowhere and he's definitely not open. The guy defines the word limbo on the offensive end. If that is the case, we need to run some plays for him. I honestly don't know what the hell is going on with Shandon. Maybe he is depressed. If someone on the Rox would talk about the subject, then maybe we would know for sure what is going on. But, everyone appears to be acting like nothing is wrong and this is "normal".

Right now I see Shandon as a Doug Christie type of player. He can score if he wants to, and is an excellent defender, but just doesn't seem to fit in with the current offense.

It looks as if our chances of resigning Shandon Anderson are dwindling by the day. Alot of teams would love to have him, he'll be a coveted FA in next year's otherwise thin market. He's clearly not happy with his role here.

This is similar to the Simms-Applewhite situation, except Simms knows that he hasn't played well enough to warrant splitting time with Major (incidentally Simms plays when Major's injured). Shandon, on the other hand, should at least be getting some touches offensively.

    Hou

Abdul - Wahad- hope hes not mad at francis- but he plays D like anderson
Raef La Frentz- much better than cato
Keon Clark- they want to move him

    Denver
    Cato- they want a center
SA- damn good player since issel doenst like wahad alot. denvers D sucks so bad that he'd help em a ton.

Ogden for gods sake, what has it come to when we start quoting articles from Ogden freakin Utah? Obviously the utah press has some ill will towards shandon anderson since he bolted and this may simply be an exagerration of a small dispute between players that happens all the time in this league. By the way the guy lost his mother, the fact that he can somewhat focus on basketball is a feat in itself. Lay off it. Shandon will be faced with frustration as he adjusts, but by all star break he will be back into form on the offensive end, because he is still showing that he's one of the best defensive 2 guards in the league.I dont think there is a riff at all between shandon and steve, their personalities are just very contrasting. For those who say steve isnt sharing the ball enough with all the players, not just cuttino, thats BS. 8 assists is still 8 assists.I dont think that cuttino and steve play together that well. I like it better when I see a backcourt of steve and shandon and then let cuttino come in and let it be his show. I feel steve is more effective that way because when he's playing with cuttino he looks torn between doing his thing or givin it up to cuttino. When shandon and steve are on the court you see an actual offense not just ISO's every time. With cuttino in there your guranteed about 75 percent of the time its gonna be ISO's. Im not bashing Cuttino because thats the strength of cuttino's game, the one on one. I just think that Shandon is the stabilizer the rocks need at the 2. If shandon truly is not happy, I feel the rockets will still pursue him hard this offseason and give him a generous contract in a sign and trade for the pay cut he took to play with them

To add, I also see the situation with shandon and cuttino similar to the situation there was between eddie jones and kobe bryant in LA. We all know Eddie got traded so kobe could develop more quickly.Eddie was underaprecciated and is Shandon.I hope shandon stays put and this is just a farse of a rumor

If Shan is unhappy with Stevie and Cat he sure has an strange way of showing it. Did anyone else see before the suns game when the camera flashed to Shan chatting and laughing with Cat? [IMG] If Shandon does have a problem with the offense though Rudy would talk to him and solve it. Most likely Shan is still adjusting to the system and in time will find his role.

In the Charlotte game I saw he and Steve chatting and laughing on the sideline while waiting to sub in. I don't think that Ogden report holds too much water.

I was at the Suns game, and during the pre-game warmup, I saw Shandon and Cuttino going at each other in a very casual and friendly 1on1.

He might not be angry enough to let it affect their off-court friendship, but I won't believe that he's not frustrated with the offense. Let's face it, if anyone knows anything about a winning system it's Shandon and Hakeem. So it must make him incredibly angry to be waved off when he has a mismatch and the same when he sees that happen to Hakeem. I stated it in another post that Shandon has been waved off at least 4 times when he was WIDE open with a lane to the hoop and no defender in sight. Everyone says he relies on other to get him the ball and he's great at working off the ball. Well then Francis and Mobley need to pull their heads out and give the rock up when he's wide open. Same with Hakeem and Taylor.

With that said, I've seen improvement in that area in the last few games. Also, I think I'm beating a dead horse but why not let Shandon post up to get him back into the offense. He was a good post player in Utah. Did he forget all those moves when he left? He can't get at least one or two opportunities in the beginning of a game? I guess his touches are reserved for Mobley to dribble for 20 secs. and then throw up a crazy shot.

For all of you about to get fired up, I'm not talking bad about Mobley, but he does do that a few times a game.

Shandon anderson for ummmmmm rashard lewis???
i like shandon though and he should stay. he's the man holdin kobe. if this doesn't get resolved i'm gonna get ticked.... he deserves the ball. he is a great shooter and unlike some players on our team he shoots smart....... If he wants the ball and can shoot it by all means give him the ball. If he were in utah and were asking for the ball by all means he'd have it and i know he'd have it in.....

Call me crazy, but for me, keeping Shandon is more imperative than it was to keep Mobes in town.

Replacing a 6'6' defensive stopper who is athletic, can score when asked to, and doesn't whine a peep is veryhard. And as much as I love Cuttino, replacing a shot-happy guard with flash and little defense is much easier. Rudy T must do everything in his power to keep SA.

That is, of course, if those dudes in Utah are'nt lieing.

    Azim,

Apparently, he just did "whine a peep." Re-read the title of the thread.
