I believe some of the sources that pointed to a time limit over the PR MS gave (notice how easy it is for MS to change directions anyway?). Not like MS has to be truthful or anything (no one would know what the actual plan would have been like...MS included most likely). Biggest problem with this is it just didn't make sense to do it without a time limit (or some sort of catch). Trust me guys, publishers weren't going to go along with a system where 10 copies of their game would be given away for every 1 copy sold (especially with a system that was supposedly designed to help out publishers). Publishers had a fit with the 2-5 shares allowed by PSN and other systems. As I said earlier, PS+ has a bunch of trials, so maybe XBL will add it too. Surprised they don't actually (or do they?).
Yeah I think they should have just gone full digital download with internet connection obviously required, with no apologies about it, and taken it to the next stage. Which is really the inevitable stage Im very VERY glad how people stood up for their privacy and rights. Its kinda refreshing, shows people arent as apathetic and accepting as it might seem. We actually need that in ALL things everywhere past gaming. Though it shouldnt come at cost of stifling gaming innovation either. Maybe the current framework people are used to has limitations Still its mostly MS themselves that done goofed on it first time. There was not a chance Ida bought that originally constructed system. And I know a lot of people locally who thought the same.
Ah, I messed up, I was just automatically thinking family in the same home...my bad. Yeah, I hear you on the issue though, would have been nice.
A few months ago there was going to be one true next gen console coming out. It was going to change the way we play, the way buy games and the way we watch sports/movies/favorite shows. The console was actually doing things different or at least trying to. It was going to damage a store who feeds off gamers and rapes them in front of other people waiting in line to be raped as well with their little bag of used games. This console was going to be a frontrunner to a new generation. There was also another console coming out. This one was just simply the same crap we have seen for the past 6 years but with better graphics... It does the same thing that consoles have been doing for the past decade. Yet somehow, someway. People had a huge brain fart and literally crucified the wrong console. There was an outrage because that one console was going to change a lot of things up and because they were not clear on how it was going to do that or if it would work they just simply buried it with whining and crying. They didn't even wait to see what it was about but instead took action and protested that the next gen console be reverted back to the same $hit we have been seeing for the past 20 years. All innovation was thrown out the window. The next gen console is now just simply a stronger machine with better graphics but no new generation of gaming. So for the next 7 to 8 years I hope people enjoy signing up for power cards and pre ordering games they could have had without having to reserve a spot in a wait line. I hope people enjoy taking home the physical media that will most likely end up in a shelf collecting dust for many years. I hope they enjoy their controllers and no new innovations to the future of gaming because forget new... Old is where its at. Oh what that one console could have been if given a chance. Just a chance to prove they could figure it out and make it work.
Gamers aren't ready for the full on digital age yet, simple as that. It's one of those things that'll have to be a smooth transition at this point, which is what I think Microsoft and Sony will do. Keeping it the way it is now while opening up the ability to download games (which we are able to do right now somewhat with older games on PS3 and Xbox 360). As a techie, I prefer everything digital. I can understand some of the arguments against it, it is what it is. Hopefully in the future, they can implement some of these features. Like others have already mentioned, I really hope they don't ship Kinect separately, it has a lot of potential, but the only way it's going to get the attention it needs to succeed is if everyone who buys an Xbox One has it.
I understand you support the whole digital 100%. But you gotta look at all the size of your downloads and the size of the Xbox hard drive. It's a non-replaceable hdd. It's only 500gb. You will run out of space within a year. My ps3 hard drive is 1TB and it's somewhat running out of space because of PS+ Yes you can delete and re-download the the games again but where's the fun in that. Gamers didn't like what microsoft were focusing on so they let microsoft know. Why can't they release two systems? One with all the features that they had from the beginning and onne with just a gaming console. Then everybody is happy.
I really only had a problem with the online check in to keep games active and the always on Kinect. It was funny how people love steam but hated the xbox changes. I may get both consoles at some point.
Theres a difference between innovative features, and intrusive inconvenience posing as innovation. The right system was critiqued because it differentiated itself TO be noticed. Consoles still have too many people who are used to not having creepy features. Youre to be immersed in games voluntarily. Not game immerse you involuntarily. They could have kept the same features without all that
lol I love steam because every steam sales I buy 60$ of games and play them until the next steam sales. Since the last steam sales I finished Ace Combat and is working on Fallout New Vegas.
XBO will be delayed in some countries (to 2014): http://news.xbox.com/2013/08/xbox-one-confirmed-markets Seems like a negative, but I actually think this is good news for them (smart move IMO, though maybe they shouldn't have jumped the gun earlier in the year). Think it might mean more units for the countries they will launch in, plus more focused efforts. Not sure those other countries would matter much to them (similar to Japan). Also, just to tie back to what I said earlier, some of the same MS PR people who were denying the time limit for family sharing were also denying this delay (plus the same insider who was confirming the time limit was also confirming the delay). So take that as you will.

XBO is getting a CPU upgrade (also got a GPU upgrade a little while back): http://www.geekwire.com/2013/xbox-update-console-full-production-improved-cpu-performance/ There's some details on the NFL app (think some of you were really interested in that?): http://www.polygon.com/2013/9/3/4688514/xbox-one-espn-nfl-apps-sports-on-demand-microsoft-surface http://kotaku.com/the-xbox-ones-reinvention-of-watching-tv-and-sports-wi-1244616331 Totilo didn't seem impressed, but not sure what he expected. I now feel bad for linking to both Polygon and Kotaku.
Blah, I bump the thread for some minor things, then MS reveals major info shortly after: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-09-04-xbox-one-release-date-announced http://majornelson.com/2013/09/04/xbox-one-to-launch-on-november-22-2013-in-13-markets/ <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1PSoWOVEdBc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Releasing worldwide November 22nd. This could maybe be a new thread, though not sure how much people care about specific launch dates.
kind of off topic but whats a good tv for the Xb1. i was thinking about the panasonic tc-P50S60, and where do i find out how much input lag a tv has on a spec sheet.
Anyone have a best buy preorder they want to get rid of? I thought there was someone on here trying to sell some preorders. Halp.
Did anyone here use the Media Extender functionality with the 360? Apparently the XBO won't support it, but I'm not sure if that is really that big of a deal. Presumably some apps will be released to offer similar functionality (plus I thought XBO supported DLNA?). But I see some people really upset by this. So not sure I really grasp what kind of functionality might/might not be possible with the XBO. (then again, it is probably just angry gamers being angry gamers) On a side-note, I believe Europe gets a choice of Forza or FIFA for launch.
I have a Day One Edition XBOne pre-ordered on Amazon which I may want to get rid of. You can PM me if you are interested.
Some details regarding the SmartGlass app for the Xbox One. http://news.xbox.com/2013/09/ent-xbox-one-smartglass I'd especially like using it control my satellite receiver and change channels with it similar to what I do right now with Google TV and the tablet app.
