My wife and I probably spend $500- $600 a month on food, except we almost always blow it on a big dinner out with friends or family that comes to $200 - $400 for one night out for the two of us.

Live by myself but I have a girlfriend. Probably around 700 a month? I cook a lot but I also go out for lunch quite a bit which adds up.

I budget about $160/mo for groceries and $180/mo for dining out. Lately, i haven't been spending as much going out for dinner, so it's probably a little lower than that.

About 500 a month. Myself, my wife and a newborn. We cook mostly but we also use an envelope system so we budget for Eating out and entertainment of about $100 every two weeks. I'm sure it will steadily increase but right now it's manageable.

We spend about 600-650 for groceries for a family of 4, but we also spend about 500-600 on restaurants and fast food which is a luxury that I plan on curtailing somewhat, as I feel that this might be a little over the top!

if you eat out a lot, especially fast foods, i'd consider save and use coupons. Also, using groupon and livingsocial help.

and if you got kids, go when/where places that got kids eat free.

And even if you dont know how to cook, at least make yourself some ham&cheese or tuna sandwich once in awhile, or ramen noodle.

Let's say you go out to eat with your girlfriend once a week. That's $150-200 a month easy. Grabbing lunch 4 days a week, there's another $80-120. Groceries when a lot of times you're cooking for two is easily $300+ a month. Throw in ordering a pizza or chinese once or twice a month, and add in booze money?

    It adds up.

Family of 3 with one on the way. We spend about 300-400 on groceries every month and plan for two weeks worth of meals. So we try to keep to about 150 every two weeks. Eating out is separate and I had been budgeting 150 for that, basically one restaurant a week. But with another on the way that'll be trimmed to about 100. And then any eating out for lunch or breakfast at work comes out of each of ours spending money for the month.
