So, I'm looking to buy a laptop soon since my current one is falling apart. I wasn't originally planning on spending that much, but I'm thinking about spending a couple hundred more than my initial spending price ($300-$400) so that I can find a laptop capable of running high end games like TitanFall at a decent quality / good framerate.

I realized not only will spending a couple hundred more help me run some games that I can't play on console, but it will also be superior in all other aspects than the laptop that I was originally planning on buying (at $300 - $400) , especially because I plan on keeping it for at least 4-6 years.

So, for you tech-savy folks, got any good recommendations? I'm not in dire need for one at the moment, I can wait until black friday for a better sale.

Good luck trying to game with a 400 dollar laptop. Those laptops can't even run Runescape on medium. You're looking at towards 700-800 for a laptop decent enough to run next gen games like Titanfall on low settings.

No, I said I was initially planning on getting a laptop at around the $300 - $400 price point, but am thinking about paying $200 - $300 extra for a laptop capable of running games like TitanFall.

So I'm looking for something preferably at $600, but might be willing to spend $700.

You're going to need $1000 to get a machine that performs decent.

You will want at least an i5, regardless. What will cost you extra is whether or not you want a video card. And even then you wont be able to run high end video games.

But other people elsewhere were saying $600 laptops could run games good on low settings.....but here you are saying I'd need at least a $1000 laptop....

A $600-700$ laptop can definitely run any game on low settings.

Here was a deal for a Lenovo for $800 that is definitely more than what you need, so I'm sure $700 is not a reach.

    Thanks for the reassurance.

It's just so damn confusing when I hear people like yourself say things like this, and others like the guy above who said I'd need at least $1000 . -___-

But that Lenovo you linked to for $800 is a bit too much for what I want to purchase. I think I'm going to wait 2 months for black friday, y'think I'll be able to find something great for $600, or perhaps even cheaper? Or am i overestimating black friday sales?

Anyways, low settings isn't bad, is it? I'm not a graphics w**** at all. How good is the framerate on low settings?

The Lenovo is a pretty good deal for the specs and will run your games ok. Forget what I said about the i5. You want an i7 with quad cores.

Don't buy a laptop for gaming. No matter how good the specs are heat is always an issue leading to decreased performance. Most gaming laptops if used solely for gaming don't last very long.

Just use your money to build a decent mid-range gaming PC.

Nah, my PS4 will be my main gaming console of choice. The laptop i get will be primarily for school work / browsing the web / and occasionally playing games that I cant play on my PS4...like TitanFall.

-btw, you can hook up your laptop to an hdtv simply by using an hdmi and would be able to play PC games on your hdtv, correct?

An X Box + Cheap PC combo will probably be a better bet. Unless you plan on using it as a major gaming rig a PC isn't worth the cost.

    I have a Qosmio
When I got it last year, it was about 1200 (after Walmart discount)
From what I know, Qosmio's are supposed to be built with media in mind, trying to compete with Envy's.

It was decent for graphics, I was playing WoW back then and I was able to to medium with out running into lag issues or frame rate issues.

Hope this gives you an idea.

Now I have an Envy desktop with upgraded graphics card and upgraded power supply and still spent less than the laptop and run everything on ultra high

LOL! Its not going to happen. I'm sorry but its just not. If you want to play Titanfall you are going to either need A. Xbox One or B. A high end gaming PC period. Sure there are laptops out there that will run the game. None will truly play the game the way it was intended. You need a cheap laptop for hw and internet browsing and none of those laptops are going help you game unless you like slow motion and burnt motherboards..... $400 wont do it, $600 wont do it, $900 wont do it $1200 wont do it..... Just get an Xbox One and a cheap laptop..... Problem solved....

You mean an xbox 360 + cheap laptop?

That would be $200 for the xbox, $60 for Live + $60 for Titanfall and $300 for laptop and would cost ~ $620.

Hmm, that would be the cheaper cost.

I guess it's pretty pointless to buy a gaming laptop if you are only buying it to play one game when the majority of my gaming will be on the PS4...

    Interesting thought, thanks.

If you plan on playing a next gen FPS, you're gonna be much better off spending the big bucks... Otherwise prepare for inferiority and frustration.

I've found that if the only reason you're upgrading a computer or laptop is to play games, you're better off buying a console and never having to worry about your computer's specs limiting the quality of your gaming.

Meh, PC gaming is really not that expensive if you're dealing with desktops. Especially when you have things like Steams and Origin that take turns going on insane sales every month or so it seems. You really save a lot on the games.

Laptops though...I doubt you'll be able to find a laptop that can play Titanfall decently for 700.

I'd check Newegg or Tigerdirect though.

It's not a next-gen exclusive game though, and apparently it's running on a pretty light engine.

    Honestly, here's my thought-process :

I need a new laptop no doubt about it, and plan on getting one during Black Friday. I can either :

    A) Get a cheap laptop for $300 that will probably be slow like my current laptop, and will get outdated in a few years PLUS an xbox 360 for titanfall (which would be an additional ~300 including game and xbox live)

    B) Instead of getting the xbox 360 for solely one game (titanfall) , i can put that ~$300 towards a better laptop than the cheap one I was originally planning on getting that can also play games decently. Not only will it play the game I want, but it will also last longer than the cheap one because it will be superior in all aspects to the $300 one.

What's the better option in your opinion?
