^^Most people, yes. But many would steal things...especially teens^^

If the teens were white, I believe it would still get the same exposure. It is noteworthy because it affirms that there is still good in the hearts of Americans. We need more feel-good stories on the news, because despite the fact that the overall crime rate has decreased in America since its peak in 1980, most people falsely believe that this country is more dangerous now than ever. Honestly, I'm still surprised that people here are unhappy with it being in the news.

I would be just as surprised if they were white - I don't think race really had anything to do with it.
I don't think they were being rewarded for not committing a crime as much as they were being rewarded for being upstanding model kids.
I was overall a good kid...but I was a kid and I did stupid things from time to time like steal from the local convenient store - If I was in their situation at the age of 15, I probably would have stolen quite a few things. Luckily, I forced myself into better crowds by the time I was 19, so at their age, I would have had second thoughts. These kids deserve recognition for their good deeds - regardless of their race.

OK. Perhaps the store owner has experience with a lot of college kids stealing items from the store, so he/she decided to give special acknowledgment to these particular kids. I still think, with a camera fixated on you, its an easy decision to make unless you're desperate or extremely foolish.

Most people would bother pressing charges over $10 worth of merchandise, and the police probably aren't going to be overly hard working at finding them. It could make a difference though.

You went to college with very different people than me. The things that my roommates stole is quite a long list. I have my own fun stories about me stealing stuff, but I was always drunk when I did. College is the right mix of immaturity, lack of responsibility, and increased independence that leads to bad decisions.

This is possible. Probably depends on what you go in for. I think most people would leave a large item, but would take a small item because it is easier for the mind to justify.

$50 shopping sprees for 4 people is about $100 in wholesale costs. And for that $100, Buddy’s Small Lots gets national exposure. Good marketing Marci Lederman!

This story is racist, it pretty much says its shocking that 3 black kids did the honest thing. I guess it wouldnt have been surprising if they looted the place

How could you guys NOT see that these kids had their eyes on athletic scholarships? You didn't see one even waved to the camera? They are probably good kids, though.

Lederman was so impressed that she called a local TV station to share the surveillance video, which helped her identify the four young men. On Tuesday, she rewarded each of them with $50 shopping sprees.

    The white anger is palpable.

FYI I'm not white but all the tv media reports I saw only showed the black shoppers.

The one white kid was awarded the key to the city. The three black kids got a 50 dollar shopping card.

It's one original report re-broadcast by others, no? There a lot of possible reasons why the photo only contains three people. Can we agree the story doesn't mention race as several posters have claimed?

You shouldn't judge a whole race by the acts of a few members.
