Just for people's reference: yes, this was 100% confirmed months ago. PS4 will have cross-game chat. It was also confirmed more recently that there would be cross-platform chat between PS4 & Vita... not that I think anyone actually cares about the Vita. I know I don't. At least not right now.
I am so conflicted, I dont know which console to buy first. At first, I was thinking about getting xbox one but it seems many people are planning on getting ps4. I get the sense that xbone will not win the nextgen console war, they're certainly off to a bad start. I just dont want to get stuck with the inferior product. I really have no loyalty to either microsoft or sony. I went from NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS2, Xbox 360. I just want to make the right choice. I'll probably get both consoles eventually, but i'll wait a year or so for the second one. Which is the powerful console? Is there a pros and cons list somewhere I can check out? I need to make an informed decision before I decide.
Yeah, my bad on the cloud saves. For some reason, I thought it was on select games or something. I wasn't really talking about sales. I'm talking about discounts. Sales happen on PSN too (regardless of PS+ membership), but with PS+, you get discounts. The free games thing is a new thing, though PS+ offerings are still much better at this point (already have free PS4 games lined up even). Hopefully XBL starts to match the quality of what PS+ offers. There are probably better ones (and I hate IGN), but here's one: http://www.ign.com/wikis/xbox-one/PS4_vs._Xbox_One_vs._Wii_U_Comparison_Chart PS4 is the more powerful console. Quite a substantial difference, though not sure if it will be obvious with games (maybe more so down the line).
I don't think there's such a thing as a wrong decision between those two regarding those bolded bits. At the end of the day they will both be competitive products that do substantially the same thing, assuming you are buying them primarily with gaming in mind. I think more people are planning to get the PS4 at the moment partially because of all the bad blood the Xbox One generated with the policies they originally announced... pretty much all of that stuff has been reversed, though. As for power, from what I understand the PS4 is somewhat more powerful, but honestly I could care less. Since most things are going to be designed to run on both systems, I sincerely doubt any differences in power will be particularly meaningful. I would say just look at the exclusive games and series each one is expected to have, and let that drive your decision.
It's sorta nitpicking, but I will say I like how PS3 handles cloud saves far better than 360. With PS3 you have your local saves on your hard drive, and you have the option to back them up to the cloud if you wish. You can tell the system to automatically do that for all games, some games, or just leave it all manual (which is my preference). 360 you have to choose cloud or hard drive, not both (at least last time I checked, I have not tried using cloud saves since right after it launched). I like having cloud saves, but I don't want them *only* in the cloud. What if I want to play something while my internet is out? Or if Microsoft changed how they did that, someone let me know. It'd be cool if they did change it.
Thanks for the link. Wasnt the PS3 considered to be more powerful than XBOX 360? I didnt really see any difference between the two, graphics-wise. Also, werent games ported from 360 to PS3?
.... I'm ready for this... <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/8bc1dhaZc1I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I can't compare since I don't have PS, but XBL does a weekly discount in addition to the sales. I think it is recent like the free games are. They've definitely changed to compete with PS+.
The PS3 is more powerful than the 360 but it's architecture was more unique and difficult to master as the 360 was more similar to a PC. Therefore, we saw multi-platform games actually look better on the 360. The exclusives like Uncharted and God of War definitely did outclass any 360 games in terms of graphics, because Sony's first parties were more familiar with the hardware. The PS4 and XBone are similar to PC's in design, and so this gen, we should even see the 3rd party games looking better on the PS4, not to mention the 1st party games.
You're right, at the end of the day both consoles will pretty much do the same thing. Yes, the PS4 is more powerful than XBOX ONE but the PS3 was more powerful than the 360 and I didnt really notice any difference in those two. It all pretty much comes down to the exclusive games and for that reason I'm taking my talents to XBOX 1.
Developers like Naughty Dog and Quantum Dream will probably release games in the next gen that will be better than anything the XBox will be able to come out with....as far as graphics, frame rate, performance, etc... My guess is that the cross platform games will be pretty equivalent. I tend to lean more towards the MS exclusive titles as a whole...but there is no doubt that the PS4 exclusives will be amazing. The current XBox One (or MS) exclusives, for those that dont remember: Halo 5 Titanfall Sunset Overdrive Below Dead Rising 3 Forza 5 Ryse Quantum Break Killer Instinct Project Spark D4 Crimson Dragon Zoo Tycoon Current PS4 exclusives: The Order: 1886 Drive Club Infamous: Second Son Killzone: Shadowfall Knack Obviously, the first part developers for PS will be adding plenty to the list, but for now, Im interested in more of the XB1 games, so that's where Im headed. The two games on PS4 that interest me are Infamous and The Order:1886. On the Xbox side, Im not as big into Halo as I used to be...so looking forward to Forza, Titanfall, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, and Ryse. And maybe some Zoo Tycoon if I feel silly.
This list is far from current. Seems to be missing everything that was announced after E3 (and even some things from E3). Fable, Rime, Shadow of the Beast, Peggle 2 (if we're counting timed exclusives), etc. Most of my anticipated PS4 exclusives aren't even in your list. I keep posting this in all these threads, but I like the Wikipedia links for the list of PS4 and XBO games: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ps4_games http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Xbox_One_games Up-to-date, and it also breaks down what kind of exclusive the games are too (PS4 has tons of exclusives, but mostly console exclusives...pure exclusives are about even for both platforms).
If something like this just simply works...... Then wow.... <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/pUxFr1JN7YY?list=PLWnpHOQXsPDtZAwV6zbBp57LQ14B5C1Dm" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Oh yeah and... Xbox exclusive......
I didn't really follow that game closely, but it looked pretty bad (lots of lag) from what I saw. I blame it more on Ubisoft (and unfinished game) than Kinect or the XBO though: Spoiler (put GIFs in spoiler tag in case some would prefer that)
Oh wow, yeah. Awesome concept, but that lag is beyond awful and would render it unplayable. If it got to where the responsiveness was reasonable I would definitely be interested. Though, only so if it supported a first-person view. Trying to react from a first-person perspective to something you're watching from the side in 3rd person would be very unintuitive for me, even if responsiveness was perfect. You'd either need to do split-screen first-person views or support LAN for it to really work well.
The positives about this is that they are heading towards that direction. For them to be even accomplishing this with a console that will costs $500 is just simply amazing. A lot of people have lost perspective of what $500 will buy you when it comes to electronics. Laptops, Desktops, Tablets, Phones are all within the same price range or beat it by a large margin considering the brand and specs. For a $500 dollar console to achieve this type of gameplay even if not perfect that's just crazy. The beautiful thing about it thou is what they are going to do a few years from now with it. This is why I felt like pushing the Kinect was not all that bad. It really gives game developers an opportunity to want to use it and perfect it. We are seeing a new type of wave of Kinect games. Ones that are actually interesting and for an older audience vs the Kinect 1 that was mostly experimental in my opinion and aimed towards kids who weren't going to critique it because it lagged but instead would have a blast jumping and laughing. Seems to me like Kinect 2 is the real deal and that's why they are pushing it. Its ok to be skeptical, but you cant possibly deny that if they manage to figure this out its going to be amazing and the only thing out there other than Oculus that is pointing towards a true new generation of gaming. And those two could very easily go together in the near future, and for both of them to costs under $1000 together in hardware alone is incredible considering the fact that this was something only expected in the distant future.
