If you have economy then lot 9b and 9c is pretty good area to park at. You have to get there before 11 tho. 11-1, you'll have to follow someone to get their parking spot. Usually I offer to give them a ride to their cars that way no one can take that persons spot but me. I guess erp is good because everyone says so. But don't worry guys, it's the first week of school, everyone is gonna go to class. In about two weeks, your big classes won't have as many students as you saw the first day. That means, more parking is available.
i remember my freshman year, 2006, i was walking back to my truck from class, when all of a sudden this cute brunette stops next to me and asks if i needed a ride to my truck. I thought she was doing it because she was being nice or wanted my number or something....FAIL....she drove me to my truck and then just took my spot....so naive
I am an UH graduate and I even miss those old days. It brings memory to me and it frustrated me a lot. It's funny to see people still talk about parking issues now even they are expanding more parking spot each year. But I think it's just first week of school and I am sure people will find parking spot easily as the semester goes on.
Off topic but for anyone that is attending UH right now, do you have any tips for Internet/service? I always lose service and it's quite frustrating.
Grad student, but yeah, same thing. I was asking people where the book store, ID office, all this crap today. People saying UC and other abbreviations just confused me. Just point me a direction and I'll go, lol. Got a 10am and I live off I-10 (Memorial Park area), so I'm running into rush hour traffic going into downtown, then that I-45 S traffic through downtown, then the UH Cullen exit traffic, then the walkers that I try not to run over when I make right turns around campus. I'm thinking of just taking Memorial towards downtown, down Montrose, then through the ghetto to hit the back way to campus. There's a lot more lights that way, but maybe less congestion. Will update in a couple of days I guess.
Wierd I take that route for a 10 AM and i usually don't run into much trouble. Granted i carpool with my friend but I usually leave the house at 8:30 and get to campus around 9:15. Maybe you are going to early? I found that going early gets you caught in early morning traffic vs. going a little later. That Montrose route is gonna drive you crazy, don't bother, your best bet is sticking to Kty Fwy.
Don't take 45S. Keep going on I-10 and take the 59S exit and then 45S. It's a longer route distance-wise but it's faster and with less traffic.
Sucks...I and most of us in this thread feel your pain. I graduated from UH in 2008 and my first year on campus was 2004. Didn't realize how bad parking was. The biggest area to park was stadium parking and my first day of class was Tuesday at 11am. Got to the parking lot around 10-10:15am...Didn't find parking until 11:45am. They added two garages since I stepped foot on campus..I can't imagine it's gotten worse? You'll find your way around. A semester in I started finding these smaller parking lots where you take the shuttle for only a few minutes. MUCH better parking a little further away and taking the shuttle. You find parking quicker and don't deal with the headaches.
Take 288 to 90 to MLK. A tad out of the way, but traffic on 90 flows well. You could take Southmore to Scott to McGreagor.
30 Minutes? My bro, One time I got there at 11 and ended up missing some of my classes and part of another after getting a spot at like 12:45ish.
So I got a question regarding the HOV lane. If I have a 8:30 class and I'm carpooling with someone coming from the North side of town how is the HOV lane in terms of traffic? I usually take a 10am class and the HOV lane is a breeze to drive through at that time but I haven't had a class this early in awhile.
I didn't go to UH, but as an SHSU alum, I'm heartened to see that other schools have this same conversation. Although at SHSU, the problem is less that there simply aren't enough parking spaces and more that: 1. People expect to roll up to campus for a noon class at 11:45 and park in a lot right outside of their building. They get pissed when that isn't the case and blame it on the school not having enough parking lots. 2. People are too lazy to walk to class from the lots that almost always have spaces available. Admittedly, these lots are a good walk from the main part of campus, but it invalidates the argument that there is "nowhere to park." 3. People are too cheap to pay for a garage pass, which would fix issues 1 and 2 for a lot of people.
Do they still have those gravel lots on Cullen across from Cambridge and Cullen Oaks? I never had issues parking there. You can take the shuttle bus or walk.
