    Uhhhhhhh.......no.

Antonio Davis and 1st round draft pick is very nice.

Antonio Davis is still a good player.

But not for Cato, Griffin, AND Taylor.

It's not fair. He would be nice for us though.

Not a chance in hell does Toronto do that. they have been in an awkward situation for a few years since McGrady left: Vince Carter has been in danger of having a Dominique Wilkins career; good enough to single-handedly keep his team out of the lottery, but without the 2nd star every star player needs to be a serious contender. It could have been an endless treadmill...but they have lucked out. Like Robinson with the Spurs and Jordan with the Bulls, Carter's missing much of this year has afforded the Raptors a chance to possibly have a future tandem of Carter ?anthony, Carter/Milicik, or even Carter/James. No way in hell they give that up for Cato and EG.

However, I have previously thought of something like an Antonio Davis/Morris Peterson/'04 1st rounder for Cato/Griffin...It might give both teams what they are looking for; For the Rocks they get the solid veteran/leader/tough guy they currently lack, a versatile shooter/defender in peterson to replace R%ice, and a pick which, even if the Raps land James, will probably be pretty around lottery level next year to add a solid role player...and they give up a potential very good player in Griffin, but one who is coming under fire for developing slowly on a team that doesn't seem to want to wait anymore, a player in Cato who will get more and more redundant as thYao progresses, and Davis can easily play the back up minutes at the 5, having been an All Star there a year ago. I think that talent wise the Rockets lose a bit on this trade, as Griffin has the best upside, but they gain `a really solid player of exactly the kind they need, and a guy who is incredible shape, and will likely play quite a few more years like a younger Kevin Willis...and Peterson himself is in many ways exactly the type of 3 Rudy loves, plus he plays defense. The picj could be not much and could, given the not impossible possibility of either another Carter injury or a year of really feeling out how to become a 2-star team if they get another one in the draft. I think it's sort of a mutually beneficial trade, and might be the kind that makes us into a team...A lot of championship teams started to click when they traded some excess younger talent and landed a veteran leader who is still in his prime, and this could be the kind of move that really addresses the obvious weaknesses this team currently has...

Can you imagine Mobley or Francis jacking up shot after shot with Antonio Davis scowling at him and telling him to get it inside? yeah...me too...but I find it a lot less likely...;)

How about trying a package that includes Mobley and gets back Carter (after his BYC status expires)? Don't laugh: Carter is a gamble for Toronto with his injury history and max deal over multiple years, Davis is a huge salary albatross for the next few years, and Toronto was hot to sign Mobley a few years back. If Toronto wanted to pull a Denver and start over (and get out of the luxury tax), Houston would be a good trade partner. We could through in Rice in a deal in this scenerio, which would free up 9+ million in space for Toronto next summer.

That said, I don't see Les turning "Cuban-like" and taking the hit from Davis' contract.

Antonio Davis - 12.0 million + Morris Peterson - 1.0 million = $13.0 million. AND A FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICK.

    For...

    Kelvin Cato - 6.7 million + Eddie Griffin - 2.2 million = $9.0 million.

For the Rockets, this would be just awesome. Antonio Davis makes a lot, but will PROBABLY be more productive than another high paid guy named Kelvin Cato. And maybe he can play power forward too. Then we get Morris Peterson! MoPete is awesome. He may be inconsistent, but he is talented.

Antonio Davis is better than Cato. Morris Peterson is better than Eddie. Then why would they add a first round draft pick? The Rocks would probably be the team giving up the draft picks. But...they get $4 million. Maybe we should give them a 2nd round draft pick.

And then after 2003-2004 season, Morris Peterson will be a free agent. He will probably want more money than he is getting now...maybe don't resign Posey and just keep him?

    MacBeth -exactly!

The Raptors would not trade a chance of adding a player who can potentially create an allstar duo, with Vince Carter.

JoeBarelyCares, lol! Sorry, but what you just proposed is absurd! I think you have...

    1. Forgotten what Carter was like, and projected to be, before his injuries, which was a player, upon the echelons of the Kobe's, McGrady's, and Iverson's.

    2. Not followed up on Carter's recent play, which has been reminiscent of his past play, despite the fact that he is not yet 100%.

    3. Not understood Carter's talent, and potential. He is only 25.

Carter is capable of being a first/second option on a contending team, and -taking away injuries- can be considered a franchise player. Mobley is -at best- a 3rd option on a team like the Rockets, and an excellent sixth man on a contending team. That, and Carter's market-status makes him at least three times as valuable as Mobley.

Why is he AT BEST a third option? He used to be our second option. Sometimes...our first. And at best a 6th man for a contending team? Not really. I think he would start on the Spurs...and maybe Kings and Mavericks.

    Houston Rockets trade:
Eddie Griffin, Glen Rice, and a 1st round draft pick
    Toronto Raptors trade:
Antonio Davis, Morris Peterson, and a 2nd round draft pick.

    $2.2 + $9.2 = $11.4 million
    $12.0 + $1.0 = $13.0 million

I think this is pretty fair. Antonio Davis is better than Eddie Griffin. Morris Peterson is better than Glen Rice. The draft picks balance it out.

The Raptors could be committed to rebuilding. They hire a new coach. They win the overall pick of the draft and get Lebron James or Darko Milivic!
Then...they have a 1st round pick for next season. And they would have $11.6 million from the surplus in the trade and Glen Rice retiring PLUS the money that Morris Peterson will be wanting that they saved to spend on a good star.
They have Vince Carter. Then they have a very young power forward with a lot of potential. Then they will get two high draft picks. They could build a great team. And then they could sign a good star.

Rockets would be getting one of the Top 10 Small Forwards. They would be getting a consistent rebounder and veteran in Antonio Davis. There would be another Michigan guy. Antonio Davis could return to Texas. Bostjan Nachbar would get to play! Posey could back up Mobley (if he is still here) and Peterson. Mo Taylor will be behind Antonio Davis. Francis will still be at the point. All of our players would be better than average players. Then we could get a new coach!

LOL. I personally think Mobley's not and never will be a 1st/2nd option on a team who want to go to the playoffs (exactly why we are struggling for playoffs now because he's our 2nd option stats wise sadly :( ). On Kings or Mavs, he would be like 4th or 5th option at best and probably not even make the starting lineup. Bobby Jackson, NVE, Ginobili are similar talent and they are just reserves for those title contenders.

Wow, not only are you new to this site, but apparently you just learned about basketball too! In basketball it is bad to trade away your young good players for unknowns and old centers. Keep posting and good luck with your next trade proposal. Maybe TMo for TMac. Clutch members would just eat-that-up.

The point of my post was that we should only consider picking up a 35 year old 6'9" center in Antonio Davis with 3 years 40 million left on his contract, plus a trade kicker (increasing the contract 15%), if the Raptors are talking about doing a Denver-type fire sale and including Carter in the deal. Such a trade of an oft-injured max-salaried player in Carter does not look that absurd if you saw the deal Denver did with Dallas this year for financial reasons. There were rumors of Carter in a fire sale to Cleveland around the trade dealine. The luxury tax makes one-sided deals from a purely talent perspective (not financial) possible.

no this is not a bad trade for the rockets, but it might be for the raptors. i've learned enough bball and i've also played hs ball. i watch every rockets game i can as long as other bball games. i know what i'm talking about. antonio davis is not that old and plus we get a very high pick. you obviously do not see the whole picture. griffin might turn out okay but we need some toughness and we can get that with davis. if we get okafor then he'll provide us with great shot blocking and D for a long time. bosh will provide us with some scoring along with other attributes. he is already better than griffin. i see that he has a tremendous inside game, plus a very good handle, something that eddie does not have to this point. bosh is only 19, and he has a better shot too. dont act like you know everything about bball. obviously you don't know s*** about this year's draft as well as davis and even your own rockets players.

I repeat: Eddie Griffin and Glen Rice for Antonio Davis, Morris Peterson, and a 2nd round draft pick.

There's no way Toronto makes that trade unless they get Cato...Peterson right now is better than Griffin, and both have shown pretty big upsides ; Griffin's might be higher, but so is the risk that he's never really going to develop...and Davis and Rice isn't even remotely close; in fact Rice is pretty much a bad contract/player liability/huge health/age risk right now, and could hardly be more than a throw in to a deal, let alone a huge asset, while Davis is probably the leader of the Raptors, still one of the more solid big men in the game, and in such amazing shape that he is in no immediate danger of slowing down..The draft pick isn't going to make the difference, even if it's a 1st...now you offer them Cato instead of Rice, and a deal is workable, IMO...

Well the trade does give us a 8% chance of getting Lebron, same chance we had with Yao. Anyway Griffin, Taylor, and Cato for an 8% of Lebron, I'd do it.

Whoa...no way they trade their 1st...No way, and certainly not for that. Where did their 1st this year enter into it?

MAYBE the Raptors are committed to rebuilding. If they did the trade...they would be saving $2,000,000. And of course, they would be losing A LOT of games. But after that season, Glen Rice retires or his contract of $9,200,000 expires. They just saved 11 million bucks. Also...Morris Peterson is getting better and better. He is still in his rookie contract. But after next season, he will be free. And he will probably want a bit of cash. They would have plenty of cash to sign a star. If we traded Kelvin Cato...that would be fine too. But then we would have Morris Peterson, James Posey, Glen Rice, Bostjan Nachbar, AND Terence Morris. Which would be fine.

Either Eddie Griffin and Glen Rice and a 1st round draft pick for Antonio Davis and Morris Peterson and a 2nd round draft pick.

    OR...

Kelvin Cato and Eddie Griffin and a 1st round draft pick for Morris Peterson and Antonio Davis.

Antonio Davis and Yao Ming could be very solid inside. Davis and Yao could be rebounding like crazy. They could be almost as good as Tim Duncan and David Robinson...ALMOST. Morris Peterson would be another guy from Michigan. And he could be our sharpshooter. Davis is a good middle range shooter. He can get a bunch of offensive rebounds. He's not TOO old. But he is overpaid..

The Raptors get Eddie Griffin...a guy with TONS of potential. Small contract. He can shoot 3's ;). Cato would be just like Davis. He would be a rebounding machine and could do very well in the East. They would be saving a lot of money.

    wtf.....

WTFFFFFFFFFF!!!!! I didn't know people can get that stupid. Think before you say anything. Glen Rice will be in the last year of his contract so he will be worth something. We do not want to be stuck with davis, cato, and taylor at the same time. That will be 27 mil a year by those 3 for 3 years, by 2006, it would increase to about 35 mil. Also griffin for mo peterson will never happen. Nobody would take peterson over griffin right now. Peterson can not shoot. His fg% is like 38%. Thats 5% lower than mobely's. If toronto doesn't take the rice+griffin for davis+peterson then they are STUPID. Never will happen.
